2018 RESOLUTIONS! Many thanks to all who submitted their personal resolutions for 2018! We received quite a few per-

sonal goals from our members and all were enlightening and inspiring! The top four resolutions

were:

1) Exercise/Improve Stamina 2) Have Less Stress 3) Lose Weight/Stay Fit 4) Be More Loving/Kind

In addition, folks are aspiring to eat healthy/get healthy, read the Bible more, try new things, be more patient and less

judgmental, help others, be a better caregiver and spend more time with grandchildren… Wow, what great aspira-

tions!

How Do we Stay on Track?

Okay, so now what? Center staff are busy planning programs, activities and opportunities to

help you keep your resolutions this year. (We have our thinking caps on!) Check out this newslet-

ter edition for programs that will help you stay on track, such as our Walking Challenge, exer-

cise classes, our health and wellness programs, relaxation programs, volunteer opportunities

and much more! Know that we’ll continue to plan 2018 programming throughout the year

that is geared toward our members’ goals. Stay tuned for more to come!

2018 WALKING CHALLENGE!

May 1 - June 30

Our much anticipated Senior Walking Challenge is back and we need YOU to reach

our combined goal of 12,000 miles! Whether you are an avid walker or need moti-

vation to get started, every mile walked is important.

Simply sign up at the Center in April and attend the Walking Challenge Kick-Off on Monday, April 30 at

2:00 pm, where you’ll receive everything to get started. Once you’ve registered, begin walking indoors or

outdoors and record your miles at the Center. Walking Bingo is back with weekly prizes to keep you moti-

vated to move! All who record miles will earn prizes at the celebration event in July.

Another fun way to keep moving is to join us as we represent the Senior Center in the Wadsworth Blue Tip

Parade on Tuesday, June 19. (Details to come!)

New Biking Challenge! For those who prefer biking over walking, we’ve added a new

opportunity this year. Bikers can sign up for the Bike Challenge! Just record your outdoor

cycling and/or indoor stationary bike miles in May and June. Attend the Kick-Off on April

30 (see above for details) and receive all of the information you need to get started.

Ok don’t be frightened by this techy lingo! Google Suite or “cloud” computing is basically a way to work online. It’s a great tool for tech users, even those just starting out, to get organized and make the best use of tech devices. Come to the first of two classes and we’ll ease you into cloud-based technology.

Come to the second of two classes and expand your understanding of cloud-based technology. Google Suite can be used for email, managing data (documents, lists, slides, forms, etc.), and creating/managing calendars. It even offers fun ways to communicate like Google Hangouts!

Tech Connect provides a fun way for senior volunteers

and friends with disabilities from the Medina County

Board of Developmental Disabilities to connect and help

each other with technology for things like texting, email,

and social media. We need senior volunteers to join this

important program. Don’t worry if you aren’t very tech

savvy. Volunteer training is provided and we offer an

orientation to help you get started. Call the Center today

MEDINA COUNTY

SALES TAX

PRESENTATION

Friday, April 13 at 1:00 pm

Medina County Administrator, Scott Miller, will offer a

presentation on the .2% Criminal & Administrative Justice

Services Sales Tax that will be on the May 8, 2018 ballot.

It will generate approximately 5.3 million dollars annually

to be used specifically for criminal justice services, freeing

up revenues for senior services, children’s services, men-

tal health services, capital improvements and maintenance

of county buildings.

Getting older is NOT supposed to leave you feeling

bad. Depression as one ages can reduce independ-

ence and increase health problems. Learn the signs

and symptoms of depression through a fun game of

Bingo!

Cindy McQuown from Cornerstone Wellness will

bring prizes and lead the fun! She will also offer

private depression screenings following Bingo for

any participant who would like one.

The Sewing Seniors will be finish-

Sew for our furry friends at Kitten

Krazy, located in Medina. The ladies made 58 crate pil-

lows in two hours! The kitties were purrfectly pleased!

Friday, May 18—“AAA Senior Safety Day”

Our May Café Customer Appreciation event is all about senior safety. Start by en-

joying the Café lunch special featuring meatball subs, side salads and Black Forrest

parfaits. After lunch stay and hear all about staying safe in our community by the

Wadsworth Police and Fire Departments at noon in the Café. Following the presen-

tation, check out safety-themed displays in the Activity Room, featuring AAA Auto

Club driving safety information, free battery and tire checks conducted by trained

AAA technicians, Wadsworth Police & Fire Department safety displays and more!

This interactive program will give you the tools to gain optimal health for an active lifestyle. Topics include:

⇒ Techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, including hyper/hypoglycemia, fatigue, pain, stress, depression, anger, fear and frustration

⇒ Exercises for maintaining and improving strength and endurance

⇒ Healthy eating (including some healthy surprise snacks from the Soprema Café!)

⇒ Appropriate use of medication and tips on working more effectively with your health care providers

Participants will also receive free health screenings, including cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, BMI, etc. and will make weekly action plans, share experiences and help each other solve problems. This FREE work-

“EYE SENSE” VISION

May is “Healthy Vision Month” and the West-

ern Reserve Area Agency on Aging will be here

to offer free vision screenings that can identify

risks for eye disorders or disease. Some partici-

pants on Medicare may also qualify for free

glasses.

AAA SENIOR DRIVER

IMPROVEMENT COURSE

Thursday & Friday June 28 & 29

9 am—12:30 pm

Instructors from the AAA Ohio Auto Club will conduct

this two-day class that is designed to help mature drivers

sharpen their driving skills. Learn how to adjust for slow-

er reflexes, weaker vision and other changes that can im-

pact driving behavior as we age. This course may also

qualify participants for auto insurance discounts.
