Activity across our network of centres andonline clearly reflects the reality that we areheading for one of the busiest times of theyear, especially for used car sales.

The good news for buyers is that our successin innovation and service has helped to drivesignificant new vendor activity. So, just asbuyers are looking for a choice of stock, wehave it!The increase in vendors achieved, inevitably creates anincrease in buyers, and we would like to extend my personalwelcome and thanks to all those new customers who havejoined us over the last month. At SMA, we are proud of ourpersonal and professional approach, genuinely believingthat it makes a difference. A real difference that many of ourcustomers feel and experience is that their views arelistened to and acted upon where appropriate. In terms ofpersonal service, the reality is that you are in fact very likelyto meet and talk with the senior leadership team becausewe are committed to spending significant time on the floorof our auctions to meet our customers; so you can beconfident in knowing that your voice will be heard.

Reflecting our commitment to listening, this month we havelaunched our ‘Forecourt Ready’ service in response to thecall for more showroom-ready vehicles.

SMA Technical Service Centres which feature at most of ourauction centres are now able to undertake a full end of lifeassessment of vehicles on arrival to establish theopportunity cost of having each vehicle prepared for salefor vendors ready to sell. The process encompasses a fullFW&T electronic inspection carried out by trainedinspectors with recommendations for remedial work.

Where the cost/value justifies preparation, vendors can optelectronically to authorise agreed works to be undertaken,work is then undertaken on site. Time delays are kept to aminimum to ensure that vehicles are ‘in the ring’ as quicklyas possible. The response from buyers to date is clear;without need for remedial work and with stock ready to beoffered online virtually immediately, sales conversions areextremely strong, with buyers happy to pay a premium forthis stock. It is a win/win for vendors and buyers. It is yetanother way in which we can demonstrate that the SMAapproach is better.
