November 19 Let us support and act with women who hold out their hands to the poor and open their arms to the needy. Development and Peace is putting human dignity before the exploitation of natural resources in Brazil. We work with our partner MAB (Movimento dos Atingidos por Barragens) to teach people how to document cases of human rights violations. During these workshops 842 women who had suffered such violations during the construction of the Jirau dam in the Amazonian state of Rondônia made quilts to express their suffering. Through art and creativity, they found a source of hope and a strengthened commitment to social justice. May Peace be with Her! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The talents in this week’s Gospel can be interpreted as money, gifts and
even a crown, but we are to continue to use them and not save them. We are
given these talents through God’s great mercy and favour. We are in God’s
favour.
Recently, I felt as though my talent had been taken from me as I found
myself on a very hard path. As I look at my everyday life, I often find that,
not only has my talent not been taken from me, but it is revealed in how I
choose to live each day. I have realized that through the gift of God’s
mercy, I am able to continue to use my talents each and every day.
Every one of us has a crown to wear, not a crutch to carry. Many will try
and knock that crown off of our heads, but through perseverance and faith,
we must continue our talents. If we do not, our crowns will become rusty
and worthless. God’s light shines on us when we use our talents, no matter
how they manifest themselves.
Through reflection on this important Gospel, let us ask ourselves how we
are using our talents. Are we allowing the mercy and grace of God to shine
each and every day?
