Welcome to sunny Southern California! The Southern California Chapter is ex-cited and honored to be hosting the 2012 APWA International Public Works Con-gress and Exposition. It was about three years ago when we received a call from

National informing us that we were chosen as the host. Since that time, it’s been a whirlwind of activity in fund raising and planning. This Chapter is very fortunate to have such dedicated members who stepped up big time, to donate their time and talents to pull everything together and ac-complish a five year task in three years. The 2012 Congress Host Chapter Committee has worked many overtime hours to make this a memorable event for all. There are a number of top quality speakers through-out the Congress, and many diverse and informative Education Sessions. A big favorite is the Exposition Hall where you can see all of the latest equipment and technology which makes all our jobs easier. The

Exposition’s Grand Opening is noon on Sunday, Au-gust 26, and is always a great opportunity to learn and network. Be sure to Catch a Wave with us at the Get Ac-quainted Party on August 26 from 5pm-7pm. This party will get you in the California Beach spirit with the Beach Boys tribute band “Catch a Wave” that sound more like the Beach Boys than the Beach Boys do! Book some educational tours where you can see some fascinating Public Works Projects. Have your spouse or significant other take advantage of the ac-tivities available while you are attending the sessions. Take full advantage of all congress has to offer. Who knows, you might enjoy the area so much that you extend your stay after the congress and enjoy all Southern California has to offer! So, now here we are! Everybody enjoy all of the benefits of the Best Show in Public Works, with the flavor of Southern California. COWABUNGA!

CATCH A WAVE — AND YOU ARE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA!
