Matthew 11:2-11

Jesus asks John to baptize him. John perceives and at the same time accepts the mystery of God, that of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. John sees the Son, the eternal Word of God, and already indicates him as the Saviour. He feels the Father, whom no one can see, testify and attest that Jesus is truly his Son. He then perceives the presence of the Spirit resting on the surface of the water, mother of all life.

It is the Spirit who descended on Mary, generating human and divine life in her. It is the Spirit who will one day descend on the apostles to fertilize the earth and give it eternal life. We too, despite having had another, otherwise effective, baptism, were baptized "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". And, according to the promise, the Holy and Divine Trinity places its home in us. It transforms our life, entrusting it to God and drawing us towards him with the attraction of the resurrection. Lets keep our vocation of witnesses of God's love through the memorial of the grace received in our own baptism.
