WehaveallbeentaughtthatfaithisthegiftofGod.Butfaithisnotknowledge,indeedifweknewwithcertainty,wewouldnotneedfaith.Wealwayshavetorememberthatthebasisofourthinkingandunderstandingisthatofhumanbeingsfacedwiththe‘mystery’ofGod:‘Formythoughtsarenotyourthoughts,neitherareyourwaysmyways,saystheLord.’Ourmindswanttocometocertaintyandwecanbedissatisfiedandirritatedifwedonotgetsatisfactoryanswers.Butwewillnotgetanswerstomanyofourquestions,thissideofheaven.WecanstrengthenourfaithbykeepingourrelationshipwithGodverycloseanddeep.Thisstartswithbeingregularandfaithfultoprayereveryday.TothisweshouldaddsharingworshipatMassandHolyCommunion.Aboveallweshouldperseverewhenprayerseemsunanswered,whenfaithisdim,whenwefeellikepackingitallin.StPaultellsusthatfaithis‘thefoundationofthingshopedfor’.Thisweekletusconcentrateonfaith.Ourprayercouldbe‘Lord,Ibelieve:helpmyunbelief’.
