OnthislastSundayoftheliturgicalyear,wecelebratethesolemnityofChristtheKing.“Jesusgavehislifefortheworld”istrue.Buttodayitismorebeautifultosay:“Jesusgavehislifeforme”.Oneofthecriminalswhowascrucifiedwithhimunderstooditwell,theso-called“goodthief”,whoimploredhim,“Jesusremembermewhenyoucomeintoyourkinglypower”.HesawloveinJesus’manner,inJesus’meekness.ThekingshipofJesusdoesn’toppressus,butratherfreesusfromourweaknessesandmiseries,encouragingustowalkthepathofthegood,ofreconciliationandofforgiveness.LetuslookattheCrossofJesus,letuslookathisCrown,signofhisroyaltyandloveandletaskJesus,whenwefeelthatweareweak,thatwearesinners,defeated,tolookatus,keepingsaytohim:“Youarethere.Don’tforgetme”!

NationalYouthSunday2019Thisweekend,ontheFeastofChristtheKing,theChurchinEnglandandWalescelebratesNationalYouthSunday.Onthisday,wecelebratetheyoungpeopleinourparishandcommunityandallthegiftsandtalentstheysharewithus.Thethereforthisyear’sNYSisSignificancetakenfromChristusVivit,PopeFrancis’ApostolicExhortationtoyoungpeople:“Forhim,youhaveworth,youarenotinsignificant.Youareimportanttohim,foryouaretheworkofhishands.Thatiswhyheisconcernedaboutyouandlookstoyouwithaffection”(ChristusVivit,115)
NewMassNewsTomarkthestartofthenewliturgicalyearon1stDecember,thechoirwillbeintroducinganewsungMass.ItiscalledtheGlendaloughMass,anditisaverytunefulandaccessiblesetting,withadefiniteIrishfeelingtoit.DuringAdventwewillbesingingtheLordHaveMercy,HolyHolyandLambofGod,allofwhichusethewordsoftheMassliturgy.AfterChristmas,wewillbeintroducingtheGlorytoGod,alongwiththeGospelandMemorialAcclamationsettings.Weareintendingtohaveabriefworkshopafterthe9amMassononeSundayinJanuary(datetobearranged)formembersofthecongregationwhichwishtolearnit.Wehopethatafterhearingitafewtimes,peoplewilllikeitsomuchthattheywillwanttotakepartinitfully,butpleasefeelfreetojoininwhereveryoucaninthecomingweeksofAdvent!
