Important Message from the

Pennsylvania Catholic Conference

Earlier this summer, Pennsylvania's Speaker of the House, Repre-sentative Mike Turzai, put forward a proposal to increase tax credits available under the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program and the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) pro-gram by $20 million.

While such an increase would greatly benefit our Catholic schools’ students, the proposal has been shelved due to budget issues. The EITC and the OSTC programs have always achieved bipartisan support and have been acclaimed as two of the best educational pro-grams Pennsylvania offers to students in both public and private schools. The tax credit scholarships have been an investment that has paid dividends for students seeking a Catholic or other private education in Pennsylvania. Every Catholic school in all corners of this great Commonwealth benefits from the EITC or OSTC programs. Each year more than 40,000 families get a scholarship that permits the parents to send their children to a school that best meets their needs. It gives these families a true choice in the right educational path for their children. We need your help to urge all lawmakers to invest in success and support the expansion of the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC). Sacred Heart School News

Student Spotlight

Music, Music, Music The Sacred Heart Music Ministry is interested in growing its music program, and we need your help! Children’s Choir The Sacred Heart Children’s Choir will begin it’s 2017/2018 season on Thursday, September 14th, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the church. ALL parish children from grades 3 to 8 are invited to join us. This means children from the PREP program, as well as children who attend the parish school. Ultimately, we would like to hear the Children’s Choir at least once a month at Sunday mass. Contemporary Music Group There is some interest in putting together a contemporary music group to sing for occasional Sunday masses - possibly one a month. Guitarists, bassists, pianists, drummers, vocalists, etc. who are high-school age through adulthood are welcome. We just know that our parish is rich with musical talent. Please consider sharing those talents with the rest of our parish community. Practice and mass times are negotiable.

Instrumentalists Needed We are in need of instrumentalists to assist with Sunday liturgy. Flutists, violinists, harpists are all welcome, just to name a few. Musicians should be relatively proficient at sight reading, be willing to practice, and be responsible to learn new music.

Adult Choir The adult choir sings one mass a weekend on a rotating schedule from September to Pentecost Sunday. They also sing on holidays and Holy Days of Obligation. We are in need of all voice types: sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses, but we are espe-cially in need of male voices. Anyone from high school age on up is welcome. If you enjoy singing, please come and help us worship our Lord! Cantors Our parish is in need of cantors for our weekend masses. Candidates should be able to sing confidently and carry a tune. They should also be able to read music and be able to learn music independently. Those interested in the Adult Choir or Cantoring should contact Mrs. Cathy Grebner at 610-345-0549. Those interested in Chil-dren’s Choir, Contemporary Music or Instrumentalist positions should be in contact with Mrs. Amy Murphy at 610-345-0428 or [email protected] or stop by our table at the Ministry Fair to talk about your interests and talents.

Over the summer, seventh grader, Wesley Clinton, attended CISV, Children’s International Summer Village Program. Wesley traveled to Stockholm, Sweden, where he learned about human rights and peace. He participated in various ac-tivities, such as “Disability Day” and “Rich and Poor Day.” These activities allowed the children to “step in the shoes” of another human being to experience a different life. “This experience was fantastic! I was able to meet new friends from other countries and it was interesting to learn more about human rights. It taught me to think of others and that we should help people in need. It was a great learning experience,” exclaims Wesley Clinton!

To learn more about our programs or schedule a tour, please contact our Development Director, Jennifer Whelan at 610-932-3633 or [email protected].

Oktoberfest tickets and Raffle tickets are on sale at the welcome desk in the Narthex. Raffle tickets are $10 each for a full orthodontic treatment from McCormick Orthodontics.
