Rotary logo one of most recognized in world, says Shea

K ari Shea, the secretary for the Rotary Club of Dickinson, pre-

sented a “Fireside Chat – an Introduction to Rotary” at the Jan.

11 meeting.

The presentation served as information for new members and a

refresher for those who have been around awhile. Interesting facts about

Rotary presented included: the organization is one of the oldest service

groups in the world, there are 24,000 clubs worldwide, Rotary is in 200

countries — not even McDonalds can say that! — the Rotary logo is one of

the most recognized in the world, there are 1.2 million Rotarians world-

wide, our 4-Way Test is unique, and women were first admitted as Rotary

members in 1988.

During 2017, Rotary celebrates its 100th anniversary. In those 100 years,

we have immunized 2,000,000,000 (yes, that is billion) and have worked to

stamp out polio since 1986. The reason Rotary is so accepted worldwide is

that we approach every project and country as humanitarians.

If you want more information about Rotary, please go to www.rotary.org.

Among many topics, you will learn about the global awards, global fellow-

ships and friendship exchanges. The organization of Rotary includes the

national organization, districts and the local clubs. Dickinson is one of 66

clubs in District 5580. Our current District Governor is Herb Schmidt of the

Fargo-Moorhead AM Club.

Rotary Club of Dickinson projects include a bi-annual highway cleanup

along I-94 near the Painted Canyon, providing dictionaries to third graders,

reading at Head Start, providing service to the DSU Rodeo Club, and rais-

ing money for Rotary International’s Polio Plus Campaign through the an-

nual Pancake Karnival. This year’s event is on Sunday, Oct. 15 at the BAC.

Valentine’s Day Party set for Feb. 15 at Ramada

It’s hard to believe that it is already time to RSVP for our 2017 Rotary

Valentine’s Day

Party, which is

scheduled at

5:30 p.m. on

Wednesday,

February 15 at the Ramada. Please mark your calendar with the time,

date and place!

The cost is $30 per person. Rotarians can pay upfront or have the

amount applied to their membership dues. Rather than Stepheny Re-

ger’s choice of romantic opera during our dinner, we will have a DJ that

will play all your favorite’s after we eat. Come ready to kick up your heals and dance! Please RSVP with the

number attending. We hope for a record turnout with the addition of a DJ.

Since it is our Valentine’s Day

celebration, there will be a few

door prizes and a photo of

members and their guest(s) to

remember the evening. If you

have any questions about the

Valentine’s Day Party, contact

Amy Kreidt

[email protected] or

Stepheny Reger

2017 Pancake Karni-

val set for Oct. 15

The 2017 Pancake Karnival —

the Rotary Club of Dickinson’s

largest fundraiser — is sched-

uled for Sunday, Oct. 15 at the Biesiot Activities Center. The combined meeting and event run-through is on Wednesday, Oct.

11. Last year’s event raised almost $15,500 — one of the largest amounts in the event’s six-year history, thanks to a hard-

working committee led by Kris Fehr. A huge thank-you to every-

one who participated through their volunteerism, sponsorship and

ticket sales!

CLUB MEETING NEWS

Kari Shea

Thank you again to Rotarians who hosted a new member

in 2016. We appreciate your networking and promotion of

one of the greatest service organizations in Dickinson!

Members of the 2016 Pancake Karnival and other

first-shift volunteers enjoy a moment of quiet before

nearly 1,000 people redeemed their tickets for pan-

cakes and sausage at the Biesiot Activities Center.
