Snavely shares passion for art with Rotarians on Feb. 1
M arie Snavely, instructor of fine art at Dickinson State
University showcased some of her artwork to Rotarians
in a presentation entitled, “Inspire Your Heart with Art”
on Feb. 1.
Snavely’s acrylic painting entitled, “Sunrise, Sunset” placed second in the
2016 Badlands Art Association contest. The Bowman resident’s path to
becoming a renowned artist and art-enthusiast emerged once Snavely
realized it was some-
thing she could do, do
well and loved doing.
She earned a Master’s
degree from Northern
State University in Aber-
deen, S.D. and went on
to become an art teach-
er, in Bowman and Rhame, from where she retired in 2006.

Schafer earns second Paul Harris Fellow
Irene Schafer became the second club Rotarian of the
year to earn a Paul Harris Fellow, capturing her first Paul
Harris. The nine-year Rotarian also took advantage of 2-
for-1 match by the club to have her donation matched
using an available point system.
Of the club’s estimated 100 members, 62 are Paul Harris
Fellows, ranking the club’s among the highest of any in
District 5580 with such a large percentage of the fel-
lows , said Kris Fehr, chair of the club’s Paul Harris Foun-
dation committee.
“The club’s 2-for-1 offer is bargain, if you are interested
in earning your Paul Harris Award,” she said. The club is
offering members an accumulated bank of points, which
it earns in variety of ways, including donations from such members as Jim Ozbun and former member Clyde Frank. Fehr said she
worked with Frank’s family and Rotary International to return to the club Frank’s bank of 1,800 points. “I know he would be so
pleased to see his points being used like this for something he so strongly believed in,” added Fehr.
