Dear Lord,

We pray for the success of our Club’s project

of extending skills training to drug addicts in

the Pasig communities that somehow they may

get to realize that there is also a wonderful joy

available to them other than chemical joy.

Amen.

IT’S THE 4-WAY TEST (Tune: It’s The Real Thing)

We’d like to help Pilipinos live

In perfect harmony

We’d like to help Pilipinos grow

As honest as can be.

The 4-Way Test is what we offer

To guide their way through life

It teaches them to tell the truth

And not to tell a lie.

Refrain:

It’s the 4-Way Test

It’s Rotary’s way

We’re all proud to say

It’s the 4-Way Test

We’d like to help Philippines grow

In the most beneficial ways

And bring Pilipinos all together

In harmony and peace.

The 4-Way Test is what we offer

To bind them all as one.

They’ll cherish truth as their ideal

Put lying out of mind

(Repeat Refrain)

(Adaptation from It’s The Real Thing for Rotary by PP Peter)

of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER

FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of

service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage

and foster:

First : The development of acquaintance as an

opportunity for Service;

Second : High Ethical standards in business and professions;

the Recognition of the worthiness of all useful

occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s

occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

Third : The application of the ideal of service in each

Rotarian’s personal, business and community life;

Fourth : The advancement of international understanding,

goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal

of service.

Pres. Ogie Lim

Fellow Pasig Rotarians:

Thank you very much to all those who attended our party last

Thursday, January 19, 2017 during which, we had a wonderful and

memorable celebration of our 46th anniversary. Special thanks are

due to PN John Javier, the Chair of this year's celebration. Of

course, I commend our two emcees, who expertly steered the

program – PP Rel Gomez, and his new co-host, the equally

awesome PND RJ Ermita.

Our partners in service who graced our event include the PCA

Metropolitan Chapter, led by its President and our very own Rtn

Pal Bolivar, their IPP Olan Dimaano, and two of their Directors.

The Dean of Nursing of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig also

joined the celebration. Note that she will be very instrumental in

the staging of the Mega Medical Mission this coming February 11,

2017.

General Sapitula of EPD did not attend because her mother had

been confined in the ICU. Ms. Aida Concepcion, the OIC of

ADCOP, had been called to an emergency meeting with the

PDEA. By and large, I think the party was a success.

Today is another club assembly wherein we can discuss the club

budget. I hope it will turn out nice and quick. Then, we will

discuss again our activities, particularly our service projects in the

remaining months of this Rotary Year. We should give special

attention to the division of works and funding requirements. I

would like to involve as many members as possible in these

service projects. Listed below are these service projects that we

have committed to undertake these coming months:

1. Mega Medical Mission in February 11, 2017

ROTARY CLUB OF PASIG

Tinig Newsletter January 26, 2017

Continuation 1.

2. Organization of the Rotaract Club in the Pamantasan ng

Lungsod ng Pasig this February

3. Design Contest of water hyacinth by products for our Interact

Club in Rizal High School this February

4. Identification and Screening of Trainees for our Integration

Project with the cooperation of EPD and ADCOP this

February

5. Development of training program for our Integration Project

with the cooperation of PCIST and PCAM this February

6. Cervical Cancer Examination of 100 teachers of Rizal High

School this February

7. Movie Screening to raise funds for our high school scholars

this March

8. Productivity Enhancement Program for the RCC Pinagbuhatan

to make the Water Hyacinth Livelihood Program sustainable

and viable.

9. Immersion Program of RC Pasig Rotarians in our various

service projects.

10. Enrollment of at least 50% + 1 of RC Pasig members in the RI

website to include their skills and interest

Frankly, I am not sure if we can accomplish these tasks within the

remaining months of the year. Nonetheless, let us give it our best

shot. We have to painstakingly discuss each of these targets today:

identify the possible problems and help find solutions.

Continuation 2.

As I said in my earlier column, I always welcome suggestions and

recommendations. I am far from perfect and can always subscribe

to anyone’s better judgment. But, if you should counter my

decision, please do it nicely.

If you will notice, beginning 2017, I stopped writing long

columns. Instead, I will try to speak longer during the President's

time in the hope that I can connect better with everybody.

We have so many things to do in so little time. I hope that we will

all cooperate by working together in Service to Humanity.

Food aplenty and good music and attendance somewhat good for

our club. Good emceeing by PP Rel and RJ briefly describes our

46th

Anniversary. A handful of PDGs attended and PDG Ruf Luna

was ably represented by Lady Baby. Gov Jojo and Lady Rowena

stayed the long hours and the other PDG with lady was Gov Pepe

with his beloved Lady Thessy. PDGs Efren de Guzman, Tony

Puyat and Benny Ricafort stayed till late.

Rtn. Manoj promised he would be attending regularly when he

attended the other week but failed to show up. Rtn. Manfred,

surprisingly came after a long, long while. And, lo, first time to

attend a dinner meeting is our Rtn. Kel.

It is far, far away for our 50th

Anniversary and this early, a draft

for Senior Rotarian Ike Ona to be president on our milestone is

fast gaining momentum. With his experience and vast contacts Ike

will surely make a very good president. This early he is showing

interests in many current projects of the club and too involved in

many plans.

Sa 60th

na si Noel. For a while birthday Boy last Monday, Ray

Armas was nowhere till traffic became a major culprit. As usual

many were impressed with Director Nick’s leading the

Pambansang Awit.

Last week I was saying those who fail to plan are invariably

planning to fail. Even by text, I was not aware that the

Anniversary was to be in our Valle Verde Clubhouse. I was

informed of the attire via text by Pres. Ogie but not the venue.

The three charter members still with our club did well in their

musical number and their messages, including Most Senior

Totoy’s message were well delivered.

Pres. Ogie exercising his duty as President wanted to pay his

respects to Gus de Leon, and wanted me to accompany him.

Others wanted to plan out, if ever a group can go Friday or

Saturday as the children moved the inurment to Sunday. PP Peter

was sitting in pins and needles when I decided to have a minute of

silent prayers for Gus and other fallen Rotarians of those who

would join in the prayers. For our club, we lost 60 members

already. It is also fitting in anniversaries to honor especially those

who are charter members, like Gus.

New transferee Rtn. Butch is keen on getting additional

assignments to do his share for our community involvements.

Sana our newcomers would be as energetic.

PP Conrad did not bring Lady Leni to our anniversary as he

claimed the viber group did not sound off inclusion of our ladies.

We salute those who brought their ladies, PPs Peter, Rel, Vic A.,

Ferd & Totoy. They gave good company to our first lady and to

Rtn. Edison’s Eleonor.

To the more prayerful members, a bit of good news came our way.

PP Jing would be returning after a few months getting better in

U.S. He was Texas-based but most of the time in the hospital.

We had a supportive photographer last anniversary as Rtn. Garrick

was all over. He assured us, if the meetings are in evenings, he

would be around. We missed PP Ed Lucero as it was really their

meeting time and day also but for him not to show up even a while

is really something to talk about.

ROTARY ANNOUNCES $35 MILLION TO SUPPORT A

POLIO-FREE WORLD

EVANSTON, Ill. (17 January 2017) — Rotary today announced

$35 million in grants to support the global effort to end polio,

bringing the humanitarian service organization’s contribution to

$140 million since January 2016.

Nearly half of the funds Rotary announced today ($16.15 million)

will support the emergency response campaigns in Nigeria and the

Lake Chad Basin (Chad, northern Cameroon, southern Niger and

Central African Republic). Four cases of polio were detected in

Nigeria in 2016, which had previously not seen a case since July

2014.

With these cases, funding is needed to support rapid response

plans in Nigeria and surrounding countries to stop the outbreak.

While significant strides have been made against the paralyzing

disease, with just 35 cases reported in 2016, polio remains a threat

in hard-to-reach and underserved areas, and conflict zones. To

sustain this progress, and protect all children from polio, experts

say $1.5 billion is needed.

In addition to supporting the response in the Lake Chad Basin

region, funding has been allocated to support polio eradication

efforts in Afghanistan ($7.15 million), Pakistan ($4.2 million),

Somalia ($4.64 million), and South Sudan ($2.19 million). A final

grant in the amount of $666,845 will support technical assistance

in UNICEF’s West and Central Africa Regional Office.

Rotary has contributed more than $1.6 billion, including matching

funds from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and countless

volunteer hours since launching its polio immunization program,

PolioPlus, in 1985. In 1988, Rotary became a spearheading partner

in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative with the World Health

Organization (WHO), UNICEF, U.S. Centers for Disease Control

and Prevention, and was later joined by the Bill & Melinda Gates

Foundation. Since the initiative launched, the incidence of polio

has plummeted by more than 99.9 percent, from about 350,000

cases a year to 35 confirmed in 2016, and no cases in 2017.
