Q1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

• I think that my media product is similar to real existing media products as I have a masthead, coverlines, date, barcode, price, the website for the magazine, images on the front. I also have a contents page and double page spread.

Q2- How does your media product represent particular social groups?

• My media product represents particular social groups mainly by the pictures and colours on the front cover. Because I am using black and dark red with a band picture involving girls, I believe that it would be aimed at both boys and girls, aged 16-19. The colours black and red have their own meanings, for example black is associated with power, death, evil, elegance and mystery- whereas dark red is associated with vigour, will power, rage, anger courage… these two colours would attract perhaps people who relate to these colours.

Q3- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

• Bauer is a publishing company which started as ‘a printing house into a worldwide publishing empire comprising 282 magazines in 15 countries with 6,600 employees worldwide and annual turnover of 1.79 billion Euro.’ Bauer publish magazines such as ‘Zoo’, ‘Closer’. ‘Heat’, ‘Grazia’, ‘Heat’ and many other popular magazines.

• ‘The National Magazine Company is one of the foremost luxury consumer magazine publishers in the UK’ it produces magazines such as ‘Good Housekeeping’, ‘Country Living’, ‘Harper's Bazaar’, ‘Esquire’ and ‘Cosmopolitan’.

• I don’t think that my magazine would be apart of these because mine is a different style . It wouldn’t be a word of mouth magazine either, it would be about as popular as NME as it is the same kind of style and attracts the same group of readers.

Q4- Who would be the audience for your media product?

• Because I am using black and dark red with a band picture involving girls, I believe that it would be aimed at both boys and girls, aged around 16-19. I think the readers of my magazine would be in to Rock music and wear maybe black/funky rock star clothes!

Q5- How did you attract/address your audience?

• I attracted my audience by the language I used in my magazine ‘Volume’ such as the tag line ‘Turn it up’ and advertising chances to meet the new band on the cover. My magazine is only £3.00 monthly which people should easily be able to afford. My Masthead is large and striking which would attract the readers eye.

Q6- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

• For my media product I used a digital camera and learnt more about how to use it as I never really use digital cameras. I also learnt how to use Photoshop in this process and made my photographs more effective.

Q7- Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

• I prefer my music magazine to my school magazine as I felt as though I could be more adventurous with it and include a wider range of skills, also include a price, bar code and creative tag lines etc. Fellow students agree that they prefer my music magazine to my school magazine, and also theirs too. I really like the layout of my magazine as I think it is stylish and interesting.
