— Joshua 24:15b BUS TRIP TO FATIMA SHRINE On Saturday September 8, 2018 we have scheduled a trip to Our Lady of Fatima’s shrine in Washington, New Jersey by bus. We will be taking part in the Marian Festival celebrating the Blessed Mother’s Birthday. More details about departure time and arrival is forthcoming. The cost per person is $20.00. If you are interested in making a reservation, please call or see Carmen Rivera at 347-574-0445. On Sunday September 9, 2018 after the 12:00pm Mass at St. Anthony’s, you are invited to join the Daughters of Mary for our Annual Luncheon to honor the Blessed Mother for her birthday. There will be a rosary followed by lunch and song in the garden (weather permitting). Please join us.

Registrations for Religious Educa-tion Classes have begun! All chil-dren from 1st Grade and up, must be registered in classes to receive the sacraments of 1st Holy Communion and Confirmation. Please bring a copy of your child's Baptismal Certificate to register.

SPECIAL MASSES IN SEPTEMBER We will continue our First Friday Mass on September 7th at 6pm in Latin and 7:30pm in Spanish. On Friday, September 14th at 7pm we will also have a special Mass in Latin for the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, followed by veneration of a relic of the Cross. We ask par ishioners to attend and pray for the difficult times the Church is going through. We are also planning a number of special Masses and prayers on the Ember Days this coming year beginning in September for the same intention. The Masses are as follows: Wednesday, September 19 & Friday, September 21 at 6:00pm (Latin) & 7:30pm (Spanish) as well as Saturday, September 22 at 12pm (Latin) & 5:30pm (Spanish)

PARISH REGISTRATION St. Anthony’s Church welcomes all newcomers! We encourage every parishioner to register and use your weekly envelopes. This helps us know how many active parishioners we have as well as facilitating letters requested by you. We can not attest to you attending Mass if you are not registered and we do not know who you are. Please ask the ushers for a registration card, complete it and drop it in the collection basket or stop by the rectory during regular business hours. Thank you.

SPONSOR / REFERENCE LETTERS Anyone requesting sponsor letters or reference letters, must be a registered parishioner and attending Mass for at least 6 months, no exceptions. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION This is the height of vacation season, but as anyone who has ever been to Rome in the summer knows, no time to visit there! The city is sweltering, and in a pre-air-conditioned world long ago, Romans figured out that they needed a break in the surrounding hills. Even the pope clears out. His destination is usually Castelgandolfo, a lovely little hill town southeast of Rome, overlooking a tranquil lake. It has been a papal possession since about 1600, and in 1929, when most of the papal states were finally lost, the papal dwelling was given “extraterritorial rights,” meaning that it is an extension of Vatican City and not under Italian rule. The Vatican observatory maintained telescopes here for decades, far from the glare of the city lights of Rome, but although the observatory offices remain here year round, the telescopes are in Arizona. Pope Francis spends less time here than his predecessors, though he still slows down the pace of his work in Rome. Vacations can help us visit friends and relatives, and revive those human contacts that the pace of our lives keeps us from cultivating. The pope needs a break, and so do you. Vacation comes from a word meaning to empty oneself. There’s still time to clear the calendar for at least one golden summer day even if you don’t have a personal castle in the hills! —Rev. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Narcisa de Jesús Martillo Morán nació el día de san Narciso (29 de octubre, 1832), hija de campesinos ecuatorianos. Vivió su vida como costurera y doméstica. Falleció en Perú en 1869. Su fe se distinguió por su amor a la presencia de Jesús Sacramentado en la Eucaristía, sus prácticas de penitencia y sus obras de caridad. Cuando aún era joven, conoció la vida de la recientemente beatificada y ahora santa, Marianita de Jesús, “la Azucena de Quito” (1618 1645). La vida de esta santa mujer latina la inspiró a vivir como mejor cristiana, buscando ser guiada espiritualmente por una serie de directores espirituales. En esta laica beata, encontramos dos puntos de reflexión para nosotros los latinos. El primero es la necesidad de conocer nuestros santos latinos no sólo para recurrir a ellos sino para imitar su santidad. Lo segundo es la necesidad de buenos directores espirituales, ya sean sacerdotes, religiosos, religiosas, laicos o laicas. VIAJE DE SAN ANTONIO AL SANTUARIO DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE FATIMA El sábado 8 de septiembre de 2018, hemos programa-do un viaje en autobús al santuario de Nuestra Señora de Fátima en Washington, Nueva Jersey. Participaremos en el Festival Mariano que celebra el cumpleaños de la Santísima Virgen. Más detalles sobre la hora de salida y la llegada están próximos. El costo por persona es de $20.00. El domingo 9 de septiembre, 2018 después de la Misa de las 12:00 p.m. en nuestra iglesia San Antonio están invitados a unirse a las Hijas de María para nuestro Almuerzo Anual en honor a la Santísima Virgen por su cumpleaños. Inscripciónes para clases de educa-ción religiosa han comenzado. MISAS ESPECIALES EN SEPTIEMBRE Continuaremos con nuestras misas del Primer Viernes del mes el 7 de septiembre a las 6pm en latín y 7:30pm en español. El viernes 14 de septiembre a las 7pm también ten-dremos una Misa especial en latín para la exaltación de la Santa Cruz, seguida por la veneración de una reliquia de la Cruz. Pedimos a los feligreses a asistir y a orar por los tiempos difíciles por cual la Iglesia está pasando.
