January 12, 2013, that was the day that I was elected to serve as your Lieutenant Governor at Conclave last year. Since then, my life and I have changed greatly and as I look back to last year, it has been one amazing ride, but it makes me happy that I’m not done yet. Although Conclave 2014 is coming up very fast and DCON 2014 is less than 100 days away, together we still have a lot of work ahead of us to leave our legacy this year! This past year, you have made me one of the proudest LTGs as I got to see so much division growth and leadership, and I know you will all go even further as the time goes by. I know sometimes you lose motivation to work, sometimes you get overwhelmed and sometimes you just don’t feel like trying. Whether it be with school or Key Club, I want you all to GIVE IT YOUR ALL. You have just one more full semester before summer break and… graduation for some of you. In that same way, we have less than 95 days to leave our legacy this year. Look back at all the hard work you have put forth into making your club grow, your community better, and to save lives. Do you really want to stop while the job is unfinished and look back regretting not giving it your all? I want you to be there with me at DCON, looking back proudly reflecting upon this term and smiling greatly because you were able to achieve every g o a l a n d m a k e a d i f f e r e n c e . With DCON coming up, we have a lot of work coming up: school approval, promotion, conclave, registration, payments, fundraising and so much more! Let’s end this term with a BANG!

With great care,

Prajwol Devkota D14/39 LTG 2013-2014

Hidden Message: So, how well do you read our newsletters? New year, new

challenges! This month’s Robo Update has a hidden message in one of the

articles or pictures! The first person to find and email/text/message it to me will

win 10 points for their home club! Look carefully and read everything, you

never know where it could be!

GOLDEN GOALS UPDATE: According to the latest records, our Division has

2,600 service hours which is extremely low from the goals which we would

have hoped to achieve so we are modifying our service goal to 5,000 by the

end of the year, let’s work hard to focus on service what Key Club is all about!

Key Club’s Got Talent allowed us to raise $100 for PTP and $200 for MNT so that

means we still need to raise $200 to reach our PTP goal and $800 for our MNT

goal! After this month, we will begin focus on STP, CMN, and MOD!

Starting this month we have to focus on getting members to attend District

Convention. Dues Reports show only 5 clubs have paid.

Challenge of the Month: This is like an extended

challenge that I want you to continue for the whole

year! ARE YOU UP FOR IT? Find yourself and empty jar,

a big one, and then get a bunch of index cards.

Everyday, starting January 1, I want you to write one

note of something good that happened that day

and for you to stick it in the jar, yes everyday! And

when your days are tough, just open up the jar and

read about all the good things in life to keep yourself

happy! When December 31, 2014 comes, take the

time to read everything and reflect on a golden year!

Submission Recognition: Thank you to 4 YC Key Clubbers for sending in visuals from completing last month’s challenge! You are all golden!

Officer Appreciation: Thank you club secretaries from our D14 clubs for getting their MRF submissions in! We are at 7/8, the highest in D14 history!

provides. Key Club is the ticket for leaders across the globe to

develop leadership through service. It is not just the ticket for one

individual; it is the ticket for anyone. It is YOUR ticket. With this ticket,

Key Club members will be able to perform golden service and live

by the core values. To celebrate the legacy brought by the CNH

leaders, DCON 2014 will be YOUR GOLDEN TICKET.”

09 DCON COUNTDOWN: http://www.cnhkeyclub.org/dcon/

Erin Dominguez, RVHS

For me, DCON is such an eye-opening experience to say the least; it's full of spirit, cheers, service, and most of all, pride, in being a CNH Bee. I have been impacted in numerous ways because of DCON, from the key note speakers, to watching the award ceremonies, to being a delegate--choosing the next year's executive board, to just being around such spirited Key Clubbers. As a close to my Senior year, and my last year as a Key Clubber, I cannot wait to see what other impact DCON 2014 will have on me, creating memories for a life-time. Clarissa Gomez, MHS

Debating about District Convention 2014? You will not regret this unforgettable experience you are about to get yourself into! Just being a part of the adrenaline filled atmosphere with the CNH District is probably one of the biggest honors I've ever had. My love for Key Club honestly flew off the charts after I attended DCON 2013, as there is so much spirit, passion, inspiration, emotion, and finally realizing that YOU have made a difference! I absolutely CANNOT wait to go this year again and being able to reunite with our CNH Ohana; see you all in Sacramento! Shagun Bali, MHS

Hello! My name is Jose Gonzalez and I attended DCON 2013! It was my first district convention and it was an amazing experience. I met so many people from all over California, Hawaii and Nevada. My experience changed my views on key club and really encouraged me to work harder to help raise spirit and service in the division that I am from. I could go on about DCON for ever, but I unfortunately am limited to how much I can write. DCON is an amazing, emotional, and educational experience. Can't wait to see you all there! Jose Gonzalez, LOHS

In the 3 years that I have been a member of the RVHS Key Club, I must say that attending DCON was by far the most memorable experience. Nothing could change a person more than the countless leadership workshops, general sessions, governors ball, and inspirational speakers that all make up this 3 day convention. Every Key Clubber out there should attend DCON! I guarantee that you will emerge from this convention a changed person, one who's more willing to serve and better their community and filled with the key club spirit!

RECOGNIZED With the New Year, a new semester, and our last quarter of this term

beginning, it is a common time for all of to set resolutions and goals.

But, many of us don’t follow through. By using SMART goals, you’ll be

able to create and reach your goals!

SPECIFIC

MEASURABLE

ATTAINABLE

REALISTIC

TIMELY

A goal should be described very thoroughly to make it more effective. For example saying that you want to fundraise to help pay for members to attend DCON isn’t as specific as saying that you want to $1,000 to help lessen DCON costs for members.

Goals should be measurable. For example, saying that you want to make meetings more fun is vague, but saying that you want to make meetings more fun by adding ice breakers and more involvement from members is much clearer.

You can’t expect to set goals that are hard to reach then achieve them! A goal that is too difficult can make you feel hopeless. Instead make goals that are achievable and then adjust them as time goes to make them greater!

Can you reach your goals? Do you have what it takes to make sure they can happen? It’s important not to underestimate yourself but, at the same time, not to overestimate yourself as well. Make sure you have what it takes to reach the goals that you have set.

Basically, set a deadline for yourself! If you set a deadline, you will have a certain amount of time set for yourself to reach your goal and it is easier to plan and work for it!

JANUARY SPOTLIGHT ON SERVICE

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ntsrZKsAigJlhmuGThISk7GgIdBl8dKesPg_Mvo3ans/viewform

For the month of January, the District Spotlight on Service Program encourages you to do a project sup-porting the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP)! Pediatric Trauma injuries such as falling off of a bike and getting head injuries are the #1 killer of children under the age of 14! The sad part is, 90% of these deaths are prevent-able! Raising money for PTP will go towards money for things such as: bike safety programs, training doctors specifically for pediatric trauma injuries and more which will help us prevent these injuries or help recovery if they do happen by accident. Although this is our District Project at CNH, most of us fundraise until Fall Rally and then forget about it so let’s give focus back on PTP and reach our division goal of $2,000 for PTP! Remember that once you participate in the spot-light for service, you can submit it to BEE recognized:

RIVER VALLEY

Breakfast with Santa

By Erin Dominguez [Secretary]

Bright and early on a Sunday morning, Key

Clubbers from both Albert Powell and River

Valley High Schools participated in a Breakfast

with Santa, a joint volunteer event with our fellow

Kiwanians. Members spent their morning setting

up Veterans Hall with tables and booths for both

the hungry families and the arts and craft stations.

As parents and their children started pouring in,

Key Clubbers and Kiwanians greeted the families

with warm pancakes and sausages and provided

arts and crafts projects such as letters to Santa,

snowflake making, and face painting to the little

ones! Breakfast with Santa was such a great way to

serve our community, especially

during the holiday season! 21

YUBA CITY

Moose Lodge Xmas Party

By Jenny Tran [Member]

Club kicked off our first weekend off break with

a Christmas Party at the Moose Lodge. There,

nine members assisted the party by

serving approximately forty kids with three

different activities. Face painting, where our

volunteers painted many Christmas themed

designs asked by the kids. Key Club’s robots also

decorated ornaments, helping the kids and

parents glue various items, including glitter and

pipe cleaners. And lastly, few of our Key

Clubbers frosted cookies having the kids design

their cookies into beautiful Christmas trees

adorned with sprinkles as ornaments. Overall, it

was a very successful two-hour event, and got us

robots in the Christmas spirit.

Page 23: Robo Update 2.3

YUBA CITY

Tis the season to be GOLDEN! As Christmas approaches many of us Key Club members are busy with our personal lives and finals but the smile on people's faces still brought us together on this joyous occasion. Every year, in the beginning of December our little town of Live Oak comes together to celebrate the time of happiness as we put on the annual Christmas Stroll. We had our own booth in which we allowed little kids to decorate their own sugar cookies. Our GOLDEN members were very excited to help these kids that were just anxious to eat the cookies. Many of us were delighted to be there and see the Christmas cheer that was spreading among the people. Everyone worked so hard and had so much fun simultaneously that they forgot their worries because being with fellow members was such a joy. Some of us realized that serving the community was a passion so we decided to take every opportunity we have to help others. Seeing our little town excited and happy from their distressed lives was nice to see and involvement of these members was just delightful.

MARYSVILLE

Christmas Parade

By Tom Cheng [President]

LIVE OAK

Annual Christmas Stroll

By Mamunna Gorsi [Secretary]

On December 7th, Marysville High School Key Clubbers went to volunteer in the annual Christmas Parade in downtown Marysville. Eager to assist the city, our Key Clubbers met up at 3:00P.M. at the Marysville Police Station. Upon arrival, we checked in, and the police assigned our members specific posts. We were grouped into small units of 3-4 members. Most of us were in charge of barricading the streets to ensure the safety of the spectators. In other words, we were traffic control for the parade. We denied cars access to the streets for the duration of the parade. During our service, we witnessed all sorts of people – people that were kind enough to offer some of our members gloves, people that might have had a little too much jungle juice, and even homeless people that are enjoying the parade with everyone else. However, the service event was characterized by its extreme coldness. Our members came decked out in coats, jackets, and gloves; however, it was still a chilly service event. Despite the cold, our members still finished the event strong by staying for the whole event, which ended up 8. Overall, the Christmas Parade was an extremely rewarding, chill service event in which our members got to bond in groups while serving the city.

CARING - As a Key Clubber, you are a caring individual. You are genuinely passionate about serving others and bringing smiles onto the faces of others by making them feel better!

LEADERSHIP - Throughout your years in Key Club, you develop leadership. Whether it be event planning, stepping out of your comfort zone, or working with others, you grow into a leader!

INCLUSIVENESS - The opposite of exclusiveness! As a Key Clubber you truly learn about inclusiveness because you feel it! You are part of a family, an ohana, and you allow others to join you.

CHARACTER BUILDING - Building upon yourself and bettering yourself is something you will learn to do constantly by learning about fairness, ethics, trustworthiness, responsibility and more!

Key Club Motto: “Caring - Our Way of Life”
