Retirement LCdr Daphne Cunningham (nee Dale), CD – Log Sea 1. LCdr Cunningham will retire on 16 August 2016 after 25 years of adventure filled service with all three branches (RCN, CA, and RCAF) and working at the tactical to strategic level. 2. Daphne joined on 6 June 1991 from Saskatoon and completed basic in Chilliwack. She spent two years at the Royal Roads Military College in Victoria and graduated in May 1995 from the Royal Military College in Kingston. Upon graduation she was posted to Victoria as a Naval Logistics Officer with the required trips to Borden for training. While on the West Coast, she had the great pleasure of sailing onboard HMCS ANNAPOLIS, HMCS PROTECTEUR, HMCS ALGONQUIN and HMCS VANCOUVER (twice) to exotic locations of Hawaii, Guam, Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia. Ashore postings included MARPAC and CANFLTPAC with travel to Australia and New Zealand as the Forward Logistics Officer for HMCS CALGARY. 3. In 2001 she adventured inland to the Joint Support Group (JSG) in Kingston. During this time, she had some taskings and deployments: Logistics Officer for the DART Warehouse in Trenton (six months), Logistics Officer for the Forward Liaison Team to the Combined Task Force-150 in Bahrain (Oct-Dec 2002), and Camp Mirage Operations Officer (Jan-Mar 2003). The next desert adventure was the Mission Drawdown Team to Kabul (Jun-Oct 2004), which was a fantastic team and a cast of characters. She remained at the JSG under the supervision of the Warlock and trained with the Coven until 2005 then attended a yearlong French course. In 2006 Daphne had to pay the piper for all the adventures and was posted to Ottawa at the Navy Staff to Director Maritime Materiel Operational Support (now Director Naval Logistics). 4. A career highlight came in 2009 being Staff Officer to the Chief of the Defence Staff General Natynczyk, where she also had a great opportunity to be the Liaison Officer for the Afghanistan Christmas Road Show. Also in 2009 she married a TAC HEL AERE Officer resulting in many postings. In 2010 Daphne went to Edmonton as the G1 and HQ CO for the Area Support Group (now 3 Cdn Div Support Group). In 2011 she was the Staff Officer to the Chief of Staff at 1 Canadian Air Division in Winnipeg, which resulted in a Sea Log Officer supporting an Army Van Doo to support the Air Force HQ. In 2012 off to the Canadian Forces College in Toronto, but was actually on maternity leave with the arrival of her first daughter in September. 2013 it was back to Ottawa in the Naval Staff Director Naval Requirements, which was cut short by the arrival of her second daughter in April 2014. Her final posting was in 2015 to Director Naval Strategy. 5. It has been a crazy adventure going around the world and meeting great folks at every stop. Daphne, husband LCol Wes Cunningham, and the girls (Wynne and Liv) are moving to Kingston on 20 Jul, where Wes will be the 1 Wing A4 and HQ CO, and Daphne will complete schooling for the home business in web design and enjoy time with the girls. 6. An informal social gathering of friends, family, and colleagues will take place on 11 July at HMCS Bytown from 1330-1630 hrs. Confirmation of attendance, well wishes/anecdotes, and contributions to a retirement gift are requested by 6 July and can be sent to Cdr B McIntyre ([email protected]).
