exhibition and conference that caters to retailers focusing

on the Mekong region ( Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar,

Cambodia, Laos) and the larger ASEAN regional market.

The exhibition showcases retail solutions from local and

international exhibitors and provides the most complete

trade platform for exhibitors to market themselves

pro�tably, increase brand image and create awareness

for their organization, network and extend customer

base as well as identify and tap on new opportunities

in the future growing market.

WHY ASEAN ?

When ASEAN embarked on the ASEAN Vision 2020 in 1997,

ASEAN GDP was USD 694 billion. If ASEAN were to grow at

a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5%, ASEAN

economy should reach USD 1 trillion economy in 2005

and USD 2 trillion in 2020. ASEAN became USD 1 trillion

economy in 2006, one year later than the predic ted

date. But ASEAN passed the USD 2 trill ion benchmark

in 2011, 9 years earlier than anticipated. By 2015, ASEAN will

a lmost reach USD 3 tr i l l ion point and wil l be c loser

to USD 4 trillion in 2020. By 2014, Indonesia will become

a USD 1 trillion economy. Thailand will be half a trillion

by 2015 and Brunei Darussalam will reach USD 19 billion

by 2018.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITIONFive of these ASEAN countries, namely Indonesia ,

the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia have a high

population of young people and will continue to enjoy this

demographic bonus presenting signi�cant potential for

economic growth.

These countries are expected to see their middle class grow

in terms of population and provide the engine that will drive

growth in the ASEAN countries.

Emerging markets in Asia are rapidly developing as free

trade boosts GDP to US$4.7tr. The ASEAN economy will

double by 2020, with the nominal gross domestic product of the

regional bloc increasing from US$2 trillion in 2012 to US$4.7 trillion.

Frontier markets such as Vietnam and Myanmar are opening

up, while Indonesia is expected to continue to grow. Vietnam

and Myanmar are expected to reach a nominal GDP of

US$290 billion and US$103 billion respectively by 2020

while Indonesia is expected to reach a projected nominal

GDP of about US$1.9 trillion. Overall, emerging markets in Asia

are expected to be the fastest growing in the world and would

continue to expand. It is estimated that the GDP growth of

emerging market would exceed that of developed countries

in 2020, continuing to expand further.

The ASEAN-China free trade agreement has been successful,with Chinese exports to ASEAN growing by 21 percent last year. Momentum is expected to continue with the potential implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015. The ASEAN Economic Community aims to create a single market and production base that would allow Asean to be fully integrated into the global economy by 2015.

The ASEAN countries are among the top 10 target markets as reported on the CBRE research with Vietnam projected at 48%; Malaysia (42%); Indonesia (39%); Singapore (35%); Thailand (29%); Philipines (26%); Myanmar (23%); and Laos (23%) Thailand's retail market grew by 6.5-7.5 percent to about Bt1.48 trillion (USD 456 billion) in total sales last year, according to a report by O�ce of the National Economics and Social Development Board. Convenience and speciality stores enjoyed the highest growth in the retail sector at 18 %each last year, followed by department stores and supermarkets at 12 % each.

More and more new international brands are expanding their business lines into the Thai market. For example: In Q4 2013, Sephora, Victoria’s Secret Beauty and Accessories and Pull & Bear are some major brands that have penetrated the country.

Despite political tensions, new retail and property projects costing some 210 billion baht(USD 7 billion ) were announced in the last 12 months. This excluded investments by foreigners keen to explore opportunities in Thailand( Source : - Bangkok Post 16 sep 2014)

Retail market growth in Thailand shows an increasing growth in the recent years due to the modern grocery market industry as it provides a wider range of products and low prices.
