It is important that children develop a love for books and

reading at a young age, this will not only encourage them to

learn how to read, but will also help them to develop into

lifelong readers.

Creating a reading-rich home environment will help foster a

child’s love of reading.

There are a number of ways that you can create a reading rich

home:

Be a reader yourself, and let your child see you making

time to read at home

Make a special place for your child to keep books. Used

bookstores, yard sales, and library book sale tables are

great places to build up an inexpensive home library

Give books as gifts, it will show that you see them as

something special

Visit the library

Have daily read-aloud time. Don’t stop reading aloud once

your child can read independently—hearing high-interest

stories that are above your child’s reading level helps build

vocabulary and generates excitement to read
