DESCRIPTION

Relief InSight’s Relief Marketplace is a social enterprise platform for disaster-response logistics for pre & post-disaster goods & services provision; made in New York. Project started at NextDayBetter Hackathon in aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), November 2013. It is an e-marketplace for buying, selling, and donating items needed by those affected by disaster. The platform provides venues for users to find & request needs, & contribute to needs. As we gain data we are able to provide insight to our users about what products are needed where & when, based on patterns of current use and history of similar situations. In event of a disaster, on-the-ground organizations have intimate understandings of needs of affected individuals and communities. Despite amazing outpourings of support around the world – gaps exist in needs of people on the ground and what they receive. For ex., an affected area may receive medicine, but not have access to syringes. We’re creating this marketplace to bridge that gap. This platform provides direct ways for suppliers to connect with on-the-ground organizations to fulfill their own needs. It provides communication channels between on-the-ground organizations to create efficient disaster responses. What an organization has in surplus could be allocated to another organization in need. A timeline showing deliveries arriving, overviews showing previous deliveries made to an area and ways to prioritize needs across different cities ensures each area will have equal chance of receiving sorely needed aid. We’ve joined a noble relief community and are committed to supporting them. Supporting relief markets and communities that are currently making a difference by providing them technology that is difficult to create & filling gaps to further their reach. Help with the Goals. The Marketplace is: /An easy to use quality experience for disaster relief and resilience /Fully connected to the most important, vital supply chains via the most accessible technologies & hardware /For needs throughout disaster cycle /Web based /Mobile enabled /SMS enabled interfaces that meets needs of those on the ground/A place organizations use to naturally connect with other organizations & engage in relief efforts via contributing & requesting goods & services /A place Companies enjoy and are rewarded for using to engage in relief efforts like contributing & requesting goods & services /A place where individuals affected by disaster can make requests for goods & services /A place enabling individuals affected by disaster to post goods & services for economic gain We need to create better systems to communicate through. Foundations of open fast communication channels are available to pull together in a clear platform. The faster we get B2B/Org2Org exactly what they need, the better we serve people on the ground.
