introductionMOrE ThAN juST A BuiLdiNg ...University Recreation has a long history of meeting the programming wishes of the CWU student

body....even before the Recreation Center opened in 2006! University Recreation is primarily an

organization which serves students through providing regular activities that meet the student

demand. While some of our programs take place in the Recreation Center, the majority – such as

Intramural Sports, Collegiate Sport Clubs, Open Recreation Swims and Outdoor Trips – takes place

outside those walls.

University Recreation provides access to a number of facilities, programs and training opportunities

on campus and around town. From an indoor track and cardio equipment, to outdoor hiking

adventures and equipment rentals, University Recreation has something for everyone.

iNTrAMurAL SPOrTSIntramurals 101: Something for Everyone If you are looking for a competitive experience or want to try out a new sport, like inner tube water polo, Intramural Sports is for you! Our program is committed to providing diverse, fun and competitive sporting activities to serve the recreational needs of CWU.

Offering more than 20 different leagues per quarter, Intramural Sports at CWU range from the traditional, such as basketball, flag football, softball and soccer to the non-traditional, such as dodgeball, Nintendo Wii, indoor Nerf football and table tennis (ping pong). Sports are offered in different ability levels (competitive or recreation) as well as different gender divisions (coed or open), for participation by a range of players.

A registration period is held at the beginning of each quarter with team registration fees for each sport based on the amount of games, officials, and/or facilities for the sport. A group of students who already have a team can send one person, usually the captain, to sign everybody up. An individual student can sign up at the Recreation Center front desk on the free agent team or on the message boards at www.cwu.edu/rec.

Intramural leagues are short seasons that last about six weeks each quarter, and since game times are scheduled primarily after 3 p.m., conflicting class schedules are usually not an issue. Intramural leagues end with a single-elimination playoff tournament. Winners of each division within each sport receive the Intramural Championship T-shirt.

EligibilityAll Central Washington University students, staff and faculty are invited to participate in Intramurals. College varsity athletes must wait one year to participate in the same sport in which they competed. Spouses or dependents of CWU students, staff or faculty, over the age of 18, are also eligible to participate.

Registration InformationFor Teams:People interested in forming their own team can download the registration form online at www.cwu.edu/rec, or pick one up at the Recreation Center front desk. The registration form allows you to pick the sport and league which best suits your team’s schedule. After you fill out the form with the required information, return the completed form to the Recreation Center along with the registration fee. If you are unable to recruit enough teammates, you can find additional players through the online message boards where interested athletes post their information.

For Individuals: Students interested in participating, but not wanting to form their own team, can sign up as a free agent in two ways:

1) Students can sign up on a free agent team at the Recreation Center front desk for a small fee. Free agent teams are placed in specific leagues in three to four different sports designated by the Intramural Sports Coordinator. Free Agent teams will not be offered in all sports each quarter.

2) Place your information on the online message boards (www.cwu.edu/rec). It is up to teams that need individuals to contact you. There is no guarantee that you will play if you post your information.

3) Attend the captain’s meeting for the sport you want to play. Prior to the meeting, an announcement will be made to everyone in attendance regarding free agent availability and how to find teammates when their team is short players.

League SchedulesSchedules for each league are posted on the Intramural Sports website and at the Recreation Center. Additional schedules may be posted at game locations in approved posting areas. Team captains are discouraged from printing out schedules, as game times and locations may change during the course of the season.

The Collegiate Sport Club program provides students with the chance to participate in competitive sporting activities combined with abundant leadership opportunities. Previous experience is not required.

A sport club exists only through student interest; each club is initiated, maintained and managed by student members. Although the program is partially funded by student activity fees, fundraising is also an essential component of every club.

Students can assist with club management; participate in practices, competitions and training sessions; and possibly be involved with coaching. The degree of competition varies. Some clubs are ranked nationally and strive to continue to compete at this level of competition, by practicing multiple times each week throughout the year and through rigorous physical training. Other clubs are more interested in the opportunity to compete, and may just meet once or twice a week.

Regardless of the individual club’s goals, our intention is to ensure these opportunities are available; to provide support that fosters leadership, organization and communication; and to manage the risk involved. Collegiate Sport Clubs staff has the privilege of meeting regularly with club officers to discuss their needs and the specific challenges each club is facing.

Club membership is not limited just to CWU students. CWU faculty, staff and community members are eligible to participate in the functions of the club; however, competition is restricted to CWU students only.

Who can use the Challenge Course?Anyone can participate and benefit from the Challenge Course program. Although groups of eight or more are the focus of the programs offered, we also offer the Weekly Challenge, where individuals have an opportunity to sample parts of the Challenge Course experience. Challenge Course programs are designed to involve all members of a group. If you currently belong to a group, get your organization signed up! Or, join us for the Weekly Challenge as an individual.

Challenge CoursePerfect for clubs, teams, coaches, businesses, community and youth groups, CWU’s Challenge Course offers opportunities to participate in team-building activities to accomplish both individual and group goals on low-ropes elements and a state-of-the-art high challenge course. This unique learning opportunity allows groups or individuals to face challenges in a controlled environment while enhancing problem solving, communication, decision-making and leadership skills.

What is it?Sometimes known as a ropes course, a challenge course consists of a series of activities, or elements, which presents different mental and physical challenges to participants. These elements are used to reflect the challenges participants face in real life and may be as simple as lining up in alphabetical order or as difficult as helping your team move across a cable suspended thirty feet off the ground. The CWU Challenge Course staff designs each program specifically for the group using the course, to maximize personal and group development.

Academic CreditUniversity Recreation has partnered with the CWU Family and Consumer Sciences’ Recreation and Tourism Program to develop academic courses in Challenge Course Management. For further details visit www.cwu.edu/rec/challengecourse.

Challenge Course Program Descriptions2-hour low course includes games, warm-ups, initiatives and low challenge ground-based activities. This program can be held indoors or outdoors, and is great for developing group skills in a comfortable setting.

3-hour tower challenge or 4-hour high challenge includes some of the low course activities while also adding a high course option specific to the goals of your group. Each of these programs focuses on personal development and group enhancement.

6-hour combo course is a comprehensive program that includes all of the above and a scheduled break for lunch, which can be arranged with our campus catering department for an additional charge. Please let us know if you are interested in having us coordinate this for you.

Wellington’s WildfireIt is time to light up the night during homecoming, and this year the Challenge Course program is Going Big! Not only will the Challenge Course be lit up and open for climbers, we will also be hosting a crate stacking contest for those of you who are looking for another exciting way to challenge yourself and show your stuff.

Outdoor Pursuits & Rentals (OPR) offers equipment rentals, programs, information and trips for CWU students, faculty, staff and Alumni Association members. Everything you need to float the Yakima River or snowshoe in the Cascades is available at the OPR storefront and rental shop. Located on the east patio of the Student Union & Recreation Center, OPR houses a wide array of equipment, from camping and climbing gear to kayaks and recreational games. OPR is also a great place to find information, maps and directions to local hiking, camping and biking destinations. Stop in today to prepare for your next adventure.

don’t feel comfortable tackling these adventures alone? OPR provides instructional classes and guided trips to get you started. From overnight kayaking excursions in the San Juan Islands to day hikes and bouldering trips, OPR’s trips will take care of all of the logistics so that you can fully enjoy your outdoor experience.

What types of trips can I expect from OPR?OPR offers guided day trips and overnighters throughout every season of the year. During fall quarter, we will lead a weekend excursion to Ingalls Lake for some incredible camping. We’ll also offer weekly sunset hikes and a handful of other adventures throughout the great Pacific Northwest. During winter quarter, our trips will focus primarily on snowshoeing and cross country ski trips, as well as our weekly ski bus to local mountains. For the 2010-2011 season, OPR’s emphasis will be on Backcountry Awareness. You won’t want to miss out on some of the incredible trips and clinics being offered this winter. As spring approaches, we will revive our weekly hikes and begin to focus our trips more on water sports, such as white water raft trips, flat water float trips on the Yakima River and sea kayaking in the San Juan Islands. We will also offer some phenomenal overnight backpacking adventures and multi-day rock climbing trips.

How do I sign up for one of these great trips?Registering for any of these trips is as easy as stopping by OPR to reserve your spot. These trips are not free, but the prices are much lower than you may expect. Stop by today to sign up for the trip(s) that you are interested in, as they fill up quickly and there is a limited number of spots available for each trip.

Who leads these trips?For the most part, student employees lead our trips. Each trip leader has specific training in the trip area they are leading and are also required to have certifications in Wilderness First Aid. If you are interested in becoming a trip leader, the most appropriate first steps are to join us on one of our trips, gain certification and begin to build experience in leading people in the outdoors.

Do you offer any certifications or trainings?Yes! OPR offers training and certifications in Wilderness First Aid, Avalanche Level 1, Swiftwater Rescue, and Raft Guiding. This year OPR will have a strong emphasis in backcountry travel. Be sure to watch for this year’s clinics, trips and training opportunities.

I heard you offer kayaking?OPR has a kayak program for boaters of all levels. Whether you have never been boating or have for years, but are new to the area, the kayak program has something for you.

Kayak pool sessions:Available at the CWU Aquatic Center on Sunday evenings throughout the year, this is an excellent introduction to the sport and provides a WARM place to practice your paddle skills.

Introduction to Whitewater Kayaking courses: This four-day course is offered twice a year and is a super deal. If you are interested in learning the skills necessary to whitewater kayak, this is the program for you. The course includes all of the equipment, transportation and instruction that you will need to learn how to kayak and have a blast along the way.

CLiMBiNg WALLClinics & ProgramsThe Recreation Center Climbing Wall stands 50 feet at its highest point and offers climbers an excellent mental and physical workout. Three types of climbing are offered at the Climbing Wall: bouldering, top-rope climbing and lead climbing.

bouldering is an un-roped climb below the 14-foot designated bouldering height.

top-rope climbing is a format of climbing in which a climber’s rope runs through anchors at the top of the wall, with one end of the rope tied off to the climber and the other controlled by a belayer (who controls the climber’s rope to avoid him/her from falling) at the base.

lead climbing is a more advanced form of climbing also offered here at Central.

Please check in with Climbing Wall staff for further details involved with all of these formats of climbing.

Frequently Answered Questions

Do I have to pay to use the Climbing Wall?The use of the Climbing Wall is a part of your Recreation Center membership. The only potential costs are the optional amenities of the wall, which include shoe rentals, classes and certifications.

Do I have to take a class to use the Climbing Wall?In order to use the Climbing Wall participants only need to sign a waiver form and check in with the Climbing Wall staff so that they can review rules and expectations. Clinics and certifications are only required when you want to belay other participants. These classes and exams are available quarterly and information will be printed in the University Recreation Quarterly Schedule. One-on-one instruction is also available.

Do I have to be experienced to use the Climbing Wall?People of all experience levels use the wall. Whether you have climbed for years or would like to try for the first time, our staff is available to provide support for all ability levels.

What if I want to get more involved with the Climbing Wall?The Climbing Wall program and staff are always open for suggestions, input and ideas. Drop off a comment card at the Recreation Center front desk or e-mail your questions or comments to [email protected]. We also offer practicum and internship opportunities for motivated and dynamic students, if that is of interest.

Certifications & ClinicsEach quarter, the Climbing Wall program offers instructional clinics and certifications. These clinics are intended to elevate your awareness, understanding and competencies involved with rock climbing. Below is a list of the courses that will be offered throughout the year. Top-Rope Belay Certification ClinicThe two-hour, top-rope belay certification clinic provides participants the information and skills instruction needed to demonstrate competence in their abilities to belay another participant within a top-rope system. This demonstrated competence is the requirement for participants who wish to be certified at Central Washington University to belay other participants. Learned skills will be tested through a top-rope belay certification exam, and all participants that pass the exam will be certified to top-rope belay other participants.

Top-Rope Belay Certification ExamAll climbers must annually pass a belay certification exam in order to top-rope belay other participants. Exams are offered during open climbing hours.

Lead Climbing Certification Clinic This clinic is essential if you plan on sport climbing in the outdoors. The four-hour lead climbing belay certification clinic provides participants the information and skill instruction needed to demonstrate competence in their abilities to lead climb and belay a lead climbing participant. Instruction includes lead climbing, lead belaying and anchor cleaning. All participants who pass the lead climbing belay certification exam will be certified to lead climb and belay another lead climbing participant at the Recreation Center Climbing Wall. Prerequisite: Must be top-rope belay certified.

Lead Climbing Certification Exam All climbers must annually pass a lead climbing exam in order to lead climb or lead belay other participants at the Climbing Wall.

Climbing ClinicsThis year, climbing clinics are offered to all Recreation Center members for $5 - $10 per clinic.

Belay EscapeThe Belay Escape clinic teaches participants more advanced climbing skills and is recommended for all climbers who climb outdoors. This two-hour clinic will provide detailed instruction on the skills needed to escape a belay in the event of an emergency. Prerequisite: lead climbing certification

Technique/TrainingDo you feel like you have reached a plateau in your climbing progression? A Technique/Training clinic may be just what you need. These clinics teach technique, movement skills and training regimens, which will allow you to increase fluidity and efficiency in your climbing.

Route SettingAre you interested in setting routes for the Climbing Wall? Do you want to learn a skill that may provide you a job at climbing gyms across the nation?

Learn what it takes to set routes in an artificial climbing environment through the Route Setting clinic. This clinic is required for anyone who wants to become a volunteer route setter. After building experience as a volunteer, you may have the opportunity to work as a paid route setter.

Traditional Gear Placement ClinicInterested in learning about traditional climbing but don’t know how to get started? conquerClimbing CompetitionsThe Climbing Wall offers competitions throughout the academic year. Regardless of your experience level, competitions are a great way to spend a day. We offer Cranksgiving in the fall, an on-campus bouldering competition, which is a great introduction to climbing competitions. Winter quarter is time for the Elevation Challenge. Find a partner and see if your team can climb the most vertical feet within one month. For winter and spring quarters, CWU is part of the Northwest Collegiate Climbing Competition (Nc3) Series. This intercollegiate series is a great way to see and compete with other schools, and have a blast road tripping around the Northwest.

the cWu stop in the nc3 series is the ropeless rodeo, scheduled for april 2, 2011 . put it on your calendar!

Outdoor TripsEach quarter the Climbing Wall staff offers trips into the great outdoors, designed for all levels of experience and to provide you with a great introduction to some of the best climbing in the Northwest. During fall and spring quarters, we will be offering an evening shuttle out to Vantage. This shuttle saves gas and guarantees that you’ll get out to the crag at least once a week. Rental of the Climbing WallWe offer private Climbing Wall rental programs to groups visiting campus. These programs are an ideal way to celebrate a birthday or family reunion, or just a new and exciting way to get together with your friends. All private reservations are scheduled outside of our normal operational hours, as our number one priority is to serve students here on our campus.

In general, our Climbing Wall can accommodate 15 participants in the gym space at one time. With larger groups, we can work with you to specifically design a program that works for your interests. For this type of private climbing wall reservation, we charge $16 per participant for a two-hour session. These fees include everything your group will need to learn about and enjoy rock climbing. There are other logistics involved with these types of reservations, so contact us early.

Group Fitness Demo DaysDuring the first week of each quarter, try out any of the Group Fitness classes for FREE! We want you to try as many classes as possible, so specific Demo Days dates are posted quarterly. Take advantage of this great opportunity to participate in our fantastic program, at no additional cost!

Saturday Fitness InfusionLooking for something different to start off your weekend? Three Saturdays per quarter we offer a specialty Group Fitness class FREE for all Recreation Center members. These Fitness Infusion classes are typically formats that aren’t offered on our quarterly schedule, so you have the chance to try a new type of exercise in a safe setting.

Fitness Infusion classes don’t require a fitness pass and are open to all Recreation Center members on a first come, first served basis. Classes are posted quarterly throughout the Recreation Center and in University Recreation’s Quarterly Schedule.

Get involved, purchase your Group Fitness Pass!After trying out all of our classes for free during Demo Days, purchase your fitness pass at the Recreation Center front desk.

We offer the following fitness pass options:

Participants must have one of the above fitness passes to enter each class, and a current Recreation Center membership is a pre-requisite for purchase. All Group Fitness classes are drop-in, so you can join any class, any day, at any time, as long as you have a fitness pass!

Who teaches these classes?Group Fitness classes are taught by trained, educated and motivated fitness enthusiasts. Some of the instructors are CWU students, faculty and/or staff, while others are Ellensburg community members.

Each of the instructors are professionally trained and certified in the formats they teach, so you’re guaranteed a safe and professional experience in any of our classes. Our instructors love to teach Group Fitness and it shows!

Certified Personal Trainer vs Trainer in TrainingOur Certified Trainers have taken the necessary coursework and preparation to pass their personal trainer exam and may be certified by an accredited personal training organization. Passing the personal training examination for any of these organizations is extremely difficult. It requires a full knowledge and understanding of the human body and how it responds to exercise in multiple environments, including injury and illness. Our Certified Trainers are recognized by any fitness club in the industry as qualified fitness professionals.

Trainers in Training (TNT) are individuals who may not yet be certified, but have the knowledge base to design and implement exercise programs for healthy adults. TNT’s must be junior or senior Exercise Science undergraduate students pursuing a certification and/or have experience leading individuals in exercise technique. TNT’s have limited client availability, on a first come, first served basis.

What is Personal Training at the Recreation Center?The Personal Training program offers guidance and assistance in individual workouts by creating a personalized fitness regimen to help you meet your goals and reach your full potential. Personal trainers provide motivation, education, support and guidance for people of all ages and fitness levels.

Program StatsThe Personal Training program launched in January 2006, employs an average of 10 personal trainers per quarter and serves CWU students, faculty, staff and their dependents.

Although most clients only exercise with personal trainers an average of two days per week, the majority completes an additional three days per week of activity on their own. Our clients consistently report feelings of increased energy levels, enhanced concentration skills, decreased stress levels and improved self-confidence.

Program Pricing

Personal Training services are offered to individuals who are current members of the Recreation Center. We strongly suggest working out individually with a trainer to achieve the most customized fitness program. However, if you are more comfortable sharing your sessions with a friend, we also offer Partner Training packages, sold in six or 12-session packages. Remember though, that when you work out with a partner, you’re sharing your training session with another person and your goals might vary. Therefore, results may vary from those experienced in individual training sessions.

University Recreation offers a unique free service to Recreation Center members.If you are experiencing pain related to an injury, muscle spasms, soreness, jointinstability or tendonitis then our Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) can help. An ATC is an allied health care professional who specializes in the prevention,evaluation, treatment, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

The athletic training facility in the Recreation Center provides state-of-the-art equipment to help you recover effectively from injury. Additional services includemassage, E-stim, ultrasound, stabilizing exercises, and techniques to enhanceflexibility and range of motion. The office is located at the north end of the main corridor just past the basketball courts. Our trainer is fully certified and endorsed by the Board of Certification and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). Athletic Trainer

Ann Wittkopp is the athletic trainer for University Recreation. She is a fitnessand wellness enthusiast who earned her Bachelor’s degree in biology from DickinsonState University and her Master’s degree in Athletic Training from Montana StateUniversity Billings. Ann is now in her second year with University Recreation andhas experience working in both a high school and a clinical setting.

Ann’s interests include injury prevention and rehabilitation (especially knee rehab),community education and involvement, sports and recreation, and anything todo with health and wellness. Youth Climbing Wall ProgramsCWU’s Climbing Wall is proud to offer some excellent climbing programs for area youth. These programs are offered year-round and are a great opportunity for young people to gain experience in the great life sport of rock climbing.

Kid’s RockThis is an introductory opportunity for kids, from 6 to 12 years of age, to experience the climbing wall for the first time. Kid’s Rock participants register for one week at a time; they can come once or they can return every single week. This program is packed with games and activities aimed at providing a fun introduction to rock climbing. Parents are required to attend this program with their children.

Wall CrawlersThis quarter-long program is for young people who have tried Kid’s Rock and want to commit to an eight-week progressive course. Girl’s RockThis quarter-long program is for young women who want to commit to an eight-week progressive climbing course while also building friendships in a supportive and active community. Participants of Girl’s Rock will be instructed by women and learn a new climbing skill each week while being encouraged to climb as much as they can. Girl’s Rock is open to any young women between the ages of 9 and 15. This program is instructed by a great group of female leaders. If your daughter is looking for a new activity with a positive influence, sign her up and spread the word.

CLIMB ON!This quarter-long program has been developed as a response to all of those Wall Crawlers and Girl’s Rock participants who have been in the program for a year and are looking for more. CLIMB ON! is an advanced version of Wall Crawlers in which participants will focus on more advanced climbing skills. CLIMB ON! is open to anyone between the ages of 9 and 15.

Outdoor Pursuits and Rentals Adventure CampThe past two summers, OPR’s trip leaders have prepared educational activities and invited middle school students to join them for some adventure. This day camp has been such a huge success we are offering it again for the 2011 summer season. With activities such as river rafting, rock climbing, Challenge Course activities, orienteering, Frisbee golf and hiking in some of the Northwest’s finest areas, it is no wonder this camp is popular.

Camp C-WooThis program is for kids entering grades 1-5 and is available to children of students, faculty, staff and community members. Additionally, adult dependents (age 14 and older) and spouses are eligible to purchase Recreation Center memberships at the same rates.

MEMBERSHIP RATES

MEMBERSHIP PAYMENTCWU students and dependents may student-charge Recreation Center memberships or pay with cash, credit/debit card or check.

GUESTSAs a member of the Recreation Center, you may bring a guest with you to enjoy our facility as often as you’d like! Recreation Center members are allotted two complimentary guest passes per quarter. Guests can access our facility by purchasing a daily guest pass, as long as they are accompanied by a current Recreation Center member.

CHILDREN’S POLICYThe Recreation Center welcomes children into the facility in accordance with the following policies: Children under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a legal guardian in order to enter the facility. Children ages 6 to 13 are allowed to join their parent, who is a member, at no additional cost for activities in the four court gymnasium, on the jogging track, or at the climbing wall during designated hours. Children ages 5 and under are not allowed to participate in activities in the Recreation Center. Only children escorted by their legal parent or guardian may enter the facility. The climbing wall has specific policies regarding children – please see our website for details.

Children ages 6 to 13 are allowed in the Recreation Center during scheduled family time and/or scheduled programmed classes or events only. Family hours are Saturday and Sunday before 3 p.m. Children ages

14 and older are eligible to purchase a Recreation Center membership, in conjunction with their parent’s and/or legal guardian’s membership.

ADDITIONAL MEMBERSHIP SERVICESWe offer a variety of services to make your trips to the Recreation Center hassle-free and easier to fit into your schedule. These services include:

Lockers: half-lockers are available for •rent on a quarterly basis in the men’s, women’s and accessible/family locker rooms for $15 per quarter.Towel Service: shower towels are •available for rent for $2 per quarter. Equipment Check-Out: we offer •a variety of equipment for check-out and use in the facility including basketballs (men’s and women’s), volleyballs, jump ropes, badminton racquets and birdies, soccer balls and more.Equipment Sales: multiple items •can be purchased at the front desk including athletic tape, padlocks, yoga/fitness mats and other miscellaneous items.

DON’T FORGET YOUR CONNECTION CARDYour connection card is your “key” toaccessing the Recreation Center and all of our programs and services. Presenting your card helps us to ensure that our facility remains exclusive to the CWU community.

MEMBER DISCOUNTSYour Recreation Center membership also qualifies you for discounts on many University Recreation services such as Outdoor Pursuits & Rentals’ trips and equipment.

SUMMER MEMBERSHIPS All summer memberships are optional (student memberships are not automatic during the summer) and are available for purchase at the Recreation Center front desk beginning in May. There are several summer membership options, including six-week, nine-week and full summer plans. Due to reduced hours of operation during the summer months, these are offered at reduced rates from our academic year memberships. If you are visiting CWU as part of a conference, camp or large organization, or if you are a CWU department bringing a group to campus, we offer a variety of services and programs to enhance your experience! For small or large groups, we offer the following:

GUEST PASSESEach member receives two complimentary guest passes each quarter which can be used in place of a Connection Card or for a quest. Day-use and one-week guest passes are available for guests of the University for $6 (day-use) and $20 (one-week). All guests must sign a Liability Waiver form prior to accessing the facility and must comply with our policies and procedures. For guests ages 14-17, a parent or legal guardian must sign a Release of Liability Waiver before participation in any activities in the Recreation Center. Guests ages 6 to 13 will only be granted access to our facility during scheduled Family Hours. By purchasing a Guest Pass, you are eligible to participate in any of the current program offerings within the Recreation Center as well as CWU’s Aquatic Center. If your large group would like access to the Recreation Center while visiting campus, we offer guest passes in larger quantities at discounted rates. Please contact us in advance.

FACILITY RENTALSIf your group would like to exclusively enjoy our facility during your stay on campus, we offer reasonable rental rates for specific spaces, including the four court gymnasium, group fitness studios, athletic training services and indoor running track. Date restrictions and rental rates apply.

CHALLENGE COURSEOur outdoor Challenge Course Program is perfect for clubs, businesses, community and youth groups, or anyone looking for team-building opportunities. Our staff provides everything your group needs to successfully participate in the challenge course experience and offers a variety of programs to suit every group. From the two-hour Low Course to the four-hour High Course, or a combo of the two, learn the basics of trust and leadership with your group at low and high altitudes. Rates vary for different programs and user groups.

CLIMBING WALL INSTRUCTIONOur indoor Climbing Wall offers a fantastic two-hour program, complete with expert instruction and equipment, for groups of all ages. The sport of rock climbing provides endless opportunities for team building in a challenging and climate-controlled indoor environment. Our two-hour program requires a minimum of six participants and is available to both on and off-campus groups. For rates and detailed program information, please see our website.

OUTDOOR WATER ADVENTURESUniversity Recreation’s Outdoor Pursuits & Rentals (OPR) provides two water adventure options for groups: Yakima River Float Trips and White Water Rafting on the Wenatchee River. Our Yakima Float Trips are four-hour programs and the Wenatchee White Water Rafting is an all-day program. Each trip requires a minimum of 12 participants. Rates, meal options and reservation information can be found on our website, in addition to seasonal information affecting these adventures.

ID POLICYAll Recreation Center members must present their CWU Connection Card to enter the facility. Each member receives two complimentary guest passes each quarter which can be used in place of a Connection Card or for a quest. There are no exceptions to this policy. Any attempt to gain or provide unauthorized access to the Recreation Center may result in suspension of membership.

CHILDREN/DEPENDENTSChildren under the age of 18 must have a •waiver signed by a legal parent or guardian in order to enter the Recreation Center. Children ages 14 to 17 may access the facility •by purchasing a day pass or Recreation Center membership, and must have a parent or legal guardian with them at all times. They can use any portion of the facility.Children ages 6 to 13 under adult supervision •are allowed in the Recreation Center during scheduled Family Hours and/or scheduled programmed classes or events only. Family Hours are Saturday and Sunday before 3 p.m.For safety reasons, children 13 and under are •not allowed to use machines in the strength training or cardio facilities at any time.Children 5 and under are not allowed in the •facility.

PERSONAL BELONGINGSPersonal balls, bicycles, skateboards, roller skates/rollerblades, scooters and animals (with the exception of Service Animals) are not allowed into the facility. Recreation Center staff is not allowed to hold belongings for members while they are in the building. Digital day use lockers are available throughout the facility for your convenience. Larger lockers are available in the locker rooms for your exclusive use at the quarterly rate of $15.

CLOTHING Proper attire is required in any public spaces throughout the building. Shirts, shoes and pants or shorts are required at all times. Blue jeans and pants or shorts with rivets or zippers will not be allowed in any of the workout areas because of damage they may cause to upholstery and equipment. In addition, closed-toed athletic shoes are required to access any of the workout areas. Recreation Center staff reserves the right to ask any patron to change their attire or to leave the premises.

FOOD AND DRINK No food of any kind is allowed in the facility. However, beverages in re-sealable containers are permissible. Chewing gum, alcohol and tobacco are prohibited.

LOST AND FOUND Lost and found items are to be turned in to the Recreation Center front desk during operational hours. Retrieval of personal items can occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Administration Reception desk in room 175. Items will be logged and stored for 30 days. After 30 days, valuables are turned over to Campus Security and less valuable items, such as clothing, are turned over to Property Management/Surplus. CWU Connection Cards are immediately turned in to the Connection Card office. Lost items may be reported at the Administration Reception desk. Borrowing items from the Lost and Found is prohibited.

POSTINGSPosting on bulletin boards or walls in the Recreation Center is prohibited without approval and placement by University Recreation staff. To seek approval for postings, please inquire at the Administration Reception desk in room 175.

PHONES To protect the privacy of our members, •cell phones are not permitted in the Recreation Center because the majority of phones also function as a camera. Please exit to the Student Union or outside the Recreation Center to use your cell phone.Recreation Center phones are for •emergency use only. The only non-emergency situation permitting phone use is contacting a security escort.

GRIEVANCESIt is important that the Recreation Center staff and the policies they uphold be respected at all times. Complaints may be handled properly by contacting a University Recreation professional staff member by phone, e-mail, or appointment, or by filling out a comment card available at the Recreation Center front desk.
