Presidents Piece

Happy New Year! New year, new beginnings, new quilt board. As your new president, let me thank each and every one of you for your confidence you have place in me and the rest of the board members to lead you through 2013.

When we think of new beginnings we often think of ways to re-solve to do something different and better than we have done before. I have thought of a couple of resolutions for myself and hope that others will join in.

To find someone I don’t know very well or not at all at least three of the meetings this year, introduce myself and ask questions about them so I will make a new friend.

To remember why I began my quilting journey. It was not to create award winning quilts (although that’s not a bad thing!) but to use my talents to show someone how much I care about them. When I give a quilt as a gift, I want it to be used, to be loved to death. Whether it’s to wrap up a precious new baby or to snuggle on the couch, I want that person to know I care about them. Why did you get into quilting? Has it lost its joy? Are you dreading sitting at your machine? Try to figure out how to get the fun back in quilting. Take a class, try a new technique, or go stash enhancing with a new friend. Find that joy.

This month’s speaker will be Denise Green. She will be talking about the beautiful quilts designed by Judy Niemeyer. Melanie Lindsey was able to do her award winning Amazon Star by listening and taking a class on the technique.

We, your board, have a lot of ideas for this year. There will be changes; hopefully all will make our guild even better than before. If you have any suggestions, comments, praise or questions, feel free to con-tact me, Kathleen Poznick at [email protected] or call in the evenings (I work full time) at 817-598-0760, or any of the board members.

See you January 17th, 7:00 pm, at the Senior Citizen Center.
