Ancaster Quilter’s Guild
I arrived home from Portugal and Spain and my main goal
was to avoid wearing my winter boots for the rest of this
winter… well, that and recover from severe jet lag as soon
as possible.
I am wearing my boots and recovering from jet lag so I will
try to consider that a fifty, fifty result.
It was a wonderful trip, 30 days of sun, gorgeous scenery,
ancient buildings (everything is so young over here), deli-
cious foods and some adventure. We had two very rainy
days in Portugal and it rained our last night in Barcelona
so no complaints there.
In Medeira, the quilters on the bus rushed off as we spot-
ted a very rare sign – fabric. Unfortunately, it was closed.
The only other fabric store I encountered was in Gibraltar
and if I had needed any notions right from Britain, it would
have been a successful stop. It was a nice store but abso-
lutely nothing unique. We were rushed past some interest-
ing thread, notion and fabric stalls in the Kasbah but we
didn’t have a minute to check those out.
All in all, I am glad to be home and settling back into rou-
tines. I have 8 quilts to bind and am forcing myself to

Placemats
Placemats are a great way to practise new quilting techniques or using
up your orphan blocks. We know that the placemats are greatly appreci-
ated by those who receive them. Let’s keep this programme the suc-
cess it has always been. Rena, Sam and Brenda.

Strings & Strips Charity Quilt Update
HELP WANTED!
15 string quilts are now complete! Several more are in the binding process and two more
are in the assembly stage. There is still background for three more in the PEACH,
APRICOT, YELLOW, ORANGE tones. I would appreciate contributions of 1.5" strings in
these colour families. Thank you to the strip stitchers, the machine quilters, and the hand
binders. This co-operative effort has produced the above numbers. We are on target for
the magic number of 25. See you at the meeting.
With Thanks, Jackie

Comfort Quilts Hello Quilters! Spring is on its way finally! Our Soup and Sew on April 2,2016 was lots of fun and very successful. Teresa McPhail and myself would like to thank everyone who participated for all their contribu-tions of wonderful food, lending of iron-ing boards etc. that made this day so successful. Special thanks to Shirley Wilson for her donation of 14" squares which we were able to sash up to make 10 tops for children's quilts. Speaking of which, at our June 15, 2016 meeting representatives from Hamilton Police Services and Interval House will be attending to receive quilts. If you have any outstanding quilts that you have been working on could you please return them before the June presenta-tion, thanks very much. (We give quilts to Dr Bob Kemp Hospice as we go along, 21 so far this year) Don't forget, every time you return a completed item put your name in the monthly draw, and it will soon be time for the June draw for the lovely bag that Lynda Ryan made and has had on display every month. Thanks to everyone who participates in this program to show some of the most vulnerable people that they live in a caring community. Colleen Dawson, Lynda Ryan, Teresa McPhail
