How did you attract/address your audience?

Uses & Gratifications

Bulmer & Katz 1974

Personal Identity• Many of the readers in my target audience will be able to identify

themselves to my magazine due to the article having touched upon certain relatable topics that occur within the life of the artist and the lives of the readers.

• For example, I feel as though the readers can relate to the lighter topics such as the artists pets, family life etc.

• Another way my readers may identify themselves personally with my magazine is that the model/artist on the cover and within the article are of similar ages, this helps the reader relate to them.

• Also, the clothing style of my model/artist can help my readers relate to her and also feel connected to her as they share a common interest/style.

Escape & Diversion • Many readers may use my magazine in order to escape their

everyday lives and responsibilities as they read and learn more about their idols etc.

• In order to attract them in the first place, I ensured that I used colours, images, fonts and catchy headlines that would ensure the target audience would want to buy it, therefore they are more likely to use it as an escape and a diversion/distraction.

Surviellance & Information • As most readers like to become involved in their favourite singers

lives, keeping them up to date on the goings on of their lives attracts the audience to buy the issues each month.

• Also, advertising the contents of the issue on the cover helps with the sales and attraction of the audience, due to the fact that it promises to provide the information on bands/artists that the fans desparately want/would like to know about as soon as they can.

Personal Relationship• Due to the fact that my magazine provides the chance for readers to

create personal identity, they are also able to build and establish relationships with other readers of my magazine.

• They can do this through their similarity of interests as they would all attend the same types of concerts/gigs, meet and greet events etc.

• Also, social media sites allow those around the country/world to interact, talk and build relationships as the may all follow the artist on sites such as twitter, instagram etc. and also, this may allow readers to establish didstnat relationships with the magazine writes/editors.providers.publishers etc. and maybe even the artists themselves.

Interaction• My magazine will have a website in order to encourage interactivity.

I would include polls and competitions as well as adding exclusive material such as free downloads, early access to unreleased music videos, sneak peeks of upcoming songs, a message board in order for the consumers to not only interact with the magazine but also with each other.

• I would do this in order for my audience to develop a sense of ownership in order to develop and build a relationship with others. This is extremely important within uses and gratifications.
