• Services can be individually consumed from any Web Application
• Allows for a very rich (and complex) farm structure if required
• Provide flexibility to utilize services based on application needs
Key changes in service applications in 2013
• General architecture identical as in SharePoint 2010 – Numerous new enhancements in platform level
– New service applications to provide more enhanced functionalities
• Office Web Apps is no longer a service application – Seperated to own product

• One web application can use both local and remote SAs
• Enables centralized “enterprise” SAs
• Support only in specific service applications – Business Data Connectivity
– Managed Metadata Service
– Search
– Secure Store Service
– SharePoint Translation Services
– User Profile

Deploying Service Applications
Deploying service applications by using
the Initial Configuration Wizard
Deploying service applications
manually or by using Windows
PowerShell
Application
pool
All service applications are deployed to
the same application pool.
You can deploy service applications to
dedicated application pools, if desired.
Service
accounts
The same account is used for all
services. You can edit service accounts
later.
You can apply different service accounts
to service applications.
Databases
Database names are automatically
generated, including GUIDs that are
long and difficult to remember.
You can assign database names and
implement a naming convention.
Service
application
settings
Default settings are applied to service
applications. You can change these
later.
You can implement custom settings
when the service application is
deployed.

Install The Bits – Follow the Basic Steps
1. Plan and Prepare; Verify hardware and software requirements
2. Install the required software updates on all farm servers
3. Install the SharePoint 2013 prerequisites on servers in the
application and Web tiers
4. Install SharePoint 2013 on the application server and the Web
servers
5. Create and configure the SharePoint farm
6. Provision service applications as needed
7. Complete post-deployment tasks as required
Prepare the Servers
• SharePoint Preparation Tool
– Checks for presence of prerequisites
– Installs and configures required packages
– Requires internet connection to pull down missing prerequisites
– Can be run w/o internet connection to check for missing
prerequisites
• Public Updates and Hotfix Packages
– Update WFE & App servers as appropriate
– Ensure SQL Updates installed
– Ensure all SharePoint servers are at the same patch level
Running the Preparation Tool
• Run on Web and Application servers
• Ensure you are logged on as local admin
• If running from bits on a file system, locate and run prerequisiteinstaller.exe from the SharePoint 2013 bits folder
• Otherwise, if you install from bootable image click Install software prerequisites
• Click Next
• May require server reboot – however preparation tool will continue to run after restart
• Click Finish on the Installation Complete page
Installing SharePoint 2013
1. Login as local administrator
2. Installation steps similar to SharePoint 2010
3. Install on all SharePoint WFE & Application servers
4. Run Configuration Wizard when setup is finished on all
servers
5. Configure diagnostic logging/usage health data/etc.
6. Create Web apps, site collections/sites, as planned
Themes
• The themes engine has been completely reworked
• Everything is now based on HTML instead of proprietary format
– including support for HTML5
– PowerPoint is no longer used to create custom themes
• You get much richer themes and common building blocks for
customizing them
– A background image, palette and fonts with live preview
• You can “try it out” to see how it looks
Theme Gallery
• This is what the new theme gallery looks like, along with a
sample of an HTML 5 based theme:
Sharing
• Users can share a site from the Site Actions menu
• Users request access via the access denied page, like before
• If a user has the Grant Permissions right, they can share themselves
• Otherwise the requests must be handled by an admin
• NOTE: You MUST have configured the outgoing SMTP server for a web application or the “Share this site” menu option will not appear for anyone but site collection admins
Sharing Process
• The admin sees the list of all the pending requests in the
Access Requests and Invitations page
– A link also shows up on Site Permissions when request are
pending
• You can accept or decline a request, or add comments
to request additional details
• Users can view all of their own pending requests from
the Site Permissions page
• They can also see and respond to admin comments
Sharing – Granting Rights
• Selecting a request gives you request details and lets you
assign rights or decline, or ask for more info:
Sharing – Granting Rights
• And when you grant rights, it shows you what permission
levels are associated with groups:
Sharing – Limited Rights User
• Users can see the requests they’ve made as well as discussions
about requests:
Why to dedicated Office Web Apps
functionality?
• Not all documents are in SharePoint
• Large customers had numerous farms to manage in 2010 time frame
• Easier upgrade and maintenance for Office Web Apps functionality
• Easier consuming of Office Web Apps functionalities without complex
SharePoint federation
• Easier to setup also without SharePoint – if only used for example with
Exchange
Terminology
• WOPI - Web application Open Platform Interface - Direct file operations interface between a WOPI app and a WOPI host
• The Office Web Apps Server world neatly divides into two parts: – WOPI Apps or WOPI Clients such as Office Web Apps Server
– WOPI Hosts or WOPI Servers such as SharePoint
