Classifying Plane and Solid Figures
To identify, sort, and compare solid figures by the number of faces, edges, and corners
To identify plane figures and identify solid figures by the shapes of their faces
To learn what a plane is and what plane figures are.
What are plane shapes?
A plane is a flat surface that goes on and on, like a sheet of paper.
Plane figures are flat.
Can you name these plane shapes?
Plane shapes are all around us!

Identify shapes in your environment as having all straight lines, all curved lines or both curved and straight lines. Write yes or no.
What are solid shapes?
Solids are 3-dimesional; they have height, width, and depth.
Some solids have faces, edges, and corners.
Solid shape attributes
A face is a flat surface of a solid.
An edge is a straight line where 2 or more faces meet.
A corner or vertices is where 2 or more edges meet.
Identify faces, edges, and corners on shapes in your environment.
Identify the number of faces, edges, and corners for each object.
