Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball AlienationThe fact that Miley Cyrus is alone in her music video may hint alienation

SemioticsA wrecking ball and hammer clear portrays how tough her heart break is, as these two symbols interpret how much she is hurting.

Intertextuality,Sinead O'Connor's, nothing compares to you is a clear example of intersexuality. For example, the extreme close up shot of Sinead O’connor extreme close up and a tear running down her face.

BricolageThe representation of Sinead O’connor music video and the almost recreation clearly shows us the act of rock being collaborated with

self-consciousSeeing as Miley Cyrus is flaunting her body naked we can clearly see she is very aware of herself and actions.

Hyper-RealityThe fact that we see Miley Cyrus portraying heart break via a wrecking ball which is very heavy clearly shows reality being exaggerated

Taylor Swift – Shake it off

SemioticsTaylor Swift clearly uses Semiotics when dressing in different characteristic ways. For example, when dancing and dressed in a ‘hip hop’ fashion props such as stereos are being used to add more to this.

IntertextualityAs clearly shown when Taylors swift presents herself in different character aspects, we can clearly see that she starts to ‘shake off’ (by moving her hands) when dancing.

Hierarchies of taste and CynicismIs shown as Taylor swift mocks twerking.

This is clearly shown as low ground as she tries to twerk.

'The Matrix' (1999) - Blue Pill or Red Pill

SimulacraThe main link that has been made is the Baudrillard's theory.

SimulationIt is understood when taking ‘the blue pill the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill—you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Remember, all I'm offering is the truth—nothing more’ clearly showing how media has empowered people and society.

'They Live' (1988) - Sunglasses Scene

DeconstructionIn the sunglasses scene in ‘They Live’, it is clear to us that the over the head mid shot features a man in sun glasses reacts to the making of a major ideological point.

SemioticsThe zombified personification of the businessman is a metaphor and critique of capitalism and modernism. The reason why this is a post-modern scene is because the director is critiquing our media-saturated society ad challenging the blurred boundary between reality and fantasy. The glasses reveal the ‘Real’ world and our supposed reality is seen as a con.
