Forty Cans for Lent is a Knights of Columbus charity program that connects

traditional Lenten alms-giving with the nutritional needs of poor families in the area.

The Knights of Columbus invites you to participate in this Lenten program by bringing canned food items to church with you during Lent.

Catholic Service Initiative (CSI) –

Sunday, May 31 – June 5

For young men and women

completing grades 9-12

Deadline for registering: Wednesday, April 29.

CSI is a weeklong service project in collaboration with

Sacred Heart Southern Missions (SHSM).

Teens from Catholic Churches work fixing, building,

painting, etc.. for community members in need of help.

The evenings are spent getting to know other Catholic

teens and learning to live in community.

This is a great opportunity for teens to give back to the

community while earning service hours.

Volunteers needed – adult drivers, overnight chaperones,

jobsite helpers, cook and activities volunteers.

150. In that silence, we can discern, in the light of the

Spirit, the paths of holiness to which the Lord is calling

us. Otherwise, any decisions we make may only be

window-dressing that, rather than exalting the Gospel in

our lives, will mask or submerge it. For each disciple, it is

essential to spend time with the Master, to listen to his

words, and to learn from him always. Unless we listen, all

our words will be nothing but useless chatter.

151. We need to remember that “contemplation of the

face of Jesus, died and risen, restores our humanity, even

when it has been broken by the troubles of this life or

marred by sin. We must not domesticate the power of the

face of Christ” [113]. So let me ask you: Are there

moments when you place yourself quietly in the Lord’s

presence, when you calmly spend time with him, when

you bask in his gaze? Do you let his fire inflame your

heart? Unless you let him warm you more and more with

his love and tenderness, you will not catch fire. How will

you then be able to set the hearts of others on fire by your

words and witness? If, gazing on the face of Christ, you

feel unable to let yourself be healed and transformed, then

enter into the Lord’s heart, into his wounds, for that is the

abode of divine mercy.[114]

150. En ese silencio es posible discernir, a la luz del

Espíritu, los caminos de santidad que el Señor nos

propone. De otro modo, todas nuestras decisiones podrán

ser solamente «decoraciones» que, en lugar de exaltar el

Evangelio en nuestras vidas, lo recubrirán o lo ahogarán.

Para todo discípulo es indispensable estar con el Maestro,

escucharle, aprender de él, siempre aprender. Si no

escuchamos, todas nuestras palabras serán únicamente

ruidos que no sirven para nada.

151. Recordemos que «es la contemplación del rostro de

Jesús muerto y resucitado la que recompone nuestra

humanidad, también la que está fragmentada por las

fatigas de la vida, o marcada por el pecado. No hay que

domesticar el poder del rostro de Cristo»[113]. Entonces,

me atrevo a preguntarte: ¿Hay momentos en los que te

pones en su presencia en silencio, permaneces con él sin

prisas, y te dejas mirar por él? ¿Dejas que su fuego

inflame tu corazón? Si no le permites que él alimente el

calor de su amor y de su ternura, no tendrás fuego, y así

¿cómo podrás inflamar el corazón de los demás con tu

testimonio y tus palabras? Y si ante el rostro de Cristo

todavía no logras dejarte sanar y transformar, entonces

penetra en las entrañas del Señor, entra en sus llagas,

porque allí tiene su sede la misericordia divina[114].

Jesús Rodríguez, nació en Laredo, Texas el 30 de marzo de 1977. Egreso a la

Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) con sueños de dedicar su vida a la medicina. Es

ahí donde los planes de Dios comienzan a tomar un nuevo rumbo en su vida. Tras a

haber sido diagnosticado de una condición en su corazón, Jesús tiene que modificar su

tan ajetreado estilo de vida en la medicina.

El señor le ha pedido más de su tiempo para evangelizar y tocar más corazones a

través de su música. Jesús, ahora se dedica de tiempo completo a este llamado de

seguir sanando a otros, pero ahora lo hace a través de su música, a través del médico

de médicos.

Hoy por hoy, Jesús busca llevar el mensaje de Dios a través de la música

contemporánea de alta calidad y compartir de una reflexión con humor, pero sobre

todo de mucha fe y amor a Dios.

Jesus Rodríguez, was born in Laredo, Texas on March 30, 1977. He graduated

from the University of Monterrey (UDEM) with dreams of devoting his life to

medicine. It is there that God's plans began to take a new direction in his life. After

being diagnosed with a heart condition, Jesus had to modify his busy lifestyle in

medicine.

The Lord has asked for more of his time to evangelize and touch more hearts

through his music. Jesus, now is dedicated full time to this call to continue healing

others, but now he does it through his music, through the medical doctor.

Today, Jesus seeks to carry the message of God through high-quality

contemporary music and to share a reflection with humor, but above all with much

faith and love for God.

Reynolds Home: A shelter for homeless women with children and asylum seekers.

Reynolds Home is not just a temporary emergency shelter, it is a transition for families into their own home.

At Reynolds Home moms learn:

How to secure various sources of income and a permanent full time job,

Manage their time and budget,

Have quality time with their children, etc…

In response to the border migrant situation Reynolds Home is able to temporarily house transitioning migrants as

needed.

Dear Christ the King parishioners,

In years past our Catholic parents and grandparents donated needed money, time and effort to

build churches and keep them running.

As they now pass away the honor and the duty is falling to us and to our children to not only pass

along the faith but to build the house for God’s people to come together for worship and give

thanks for our own blessings today.

Today is the day! This is our church building and we are now its caretakers.

As we learn to tithe, giving the 10% of our income, time and talent to serve each other in this

place we all need to begin with small steps and ask the Holy Spirit to make a way.

First, its about the intention of wanting to do this.

Second, its about the attention we give it to find the resources, from the One who gives us every

good thing.

Finally, in gratitude for these blessings we can take the ACTION and give our gifts of money,

volunteer effort and time in service of our faith community here at Christ the King.

We are not asked to quit our lives but to enhance them with this Catholic faith family. So, if you

haven’t yet started to tithe, I suggest you start with a 1% tithe and make an effort to double it

every month or year until you reach 10% of your income. You have to know what that is, of

course. For those who do tithe, consider how we might encourage each other by helping with

programs or attending the ones offered. We give hope and joy when we see each other. Come to

the Lenten programs as a tithe of your time.

Today, beyond the tithing, I am here as a fellow sojourner and friend to ask that you give today

or sometime during Lent, just $20 to help us pay off the debt of $10,000 we owe on the LED

lightbulbs. With just 500 $20 bills we can finish this by Easter and celebrate the light from Light.

I know you may not have the $20, or any cash today. Perhaps this Lent, when you go to the

ATM to get cash you will consider one extra $20 for this effort, or maybe find just $5.00 a week.

We have designated LED envelopes for your contributions or you can give directly in the back of

the church.

It is our honor to accept your gift in the name of Christ the King. Thank you for your patience in

hearing me today. Your support on this and other efforts will not only pay off the financial debt

but relight the light of hope that we are the people who are ready to take up the light for this and

the next generation at Christ the King

Estimados feligreses de Cristo Rey,

En años anteriores, nuestros padres y abuelos católicos donaron el dinero, el tiempo y el

esfuerzo necesarios para construir iglesias y mantenerlas en funcionamiento.

A medida que fallecen, el honor y el deber recaen sobre nosotros y nuestros hijos, no solo para

transmitir la fe, sino también para construir la casa para que el pueblo de Dios se una para

adorar y dar gracias por nuestras propias bendiciones hoy

¡Hoy es el día! Este es el edificio de nuestra iglesia y ahora somos sus cuidadores.

A medida que aprendemos a diezmar, dando el 10% de nuestros ingresos, tiempo y talento para

servirnos unos a otros en este lugar, todos necesitamos comenzar con pequeños pasos y pedirle

al Espíritu Santo que haga un camino.

fe católica. Por lo tanto, si aún no ha comenzado a diezmar, le sugiero que comience con un

diezmo del 1% y haga un esfuerzo por duplicarlo cada mes o año hasta alcanzar el 10% de sus

ingresos. Tienes que saber qué es eso, por supuesto. Para aquellos que diezman, consideren

cómo podríamos animarnos ayudando con los programas o asistiendo a los ofrecidos.

Nos damos esperanza y alegría cuando nos vemos. Ven a los programas de Cuaresma como un

diezmo de tu tiempo.

Hoy, más allá del diezmo, estoy aquí como compañera de viaje y amiga para pedirles que den

hoy o en algún momento durante la Cuaresma, solo $20 para ayudarnos a pagar la deuda de

Semana Santa y celebrar la luz de la Luz.

Es posible que hoy no tenga los $20 ni ningún efectivo. Tal vez esta Cuaresma, cuando vaya al

cajero automático para obtener efectivo, considerará $ 20 adicionales por este esfuerzo, o tal vez

encuentre solo $ 5.00 por semana. Hemos designado sobres LED para sus contribuciones o

puede darlos directamente en el área de reunión de la iglesia.

Es un honor aceptar su regalo en nombre de Cristo Rey. Gracias por su apoyo en este y otros

esfuerzos no solo pagará la deuda financiera, sino que volverá a encender la luz de la esperanza

de que somos las personas que están listas para tomar la luz para esta y la próxima generación
