NOTING THE COUGARS

n Even though he has played in just 24 games, junior QBKEVIN KOLB is now ranked in the career Top 10 of everymajor passing and total offense category in UH history. He isfifth in total offense (6,293) and passing yards (5,896), sixth inpass completions (418) and seventh in total plays (969), passattempts (713) and touchdown passes (36). Because he issuch an effective runner, Kolb also ranks fourth in touch-downs responsible for (rushing TDs + passing TDs) with 48.

n Senior WR VINCENT MARSHALL hauled in 61 catches for1,040 yards and five touchdowns in 2004, posting six 100-yard receiving games. He became only the eighthreceiver in UH history to top 1,000 yards receiving in a singleseason, while the dual-sport athlete (he is also a top triple-and long-jumper for the Cougar track team) was one of justthree C-USA receivers to top the 1,000-yard mark.

n Despite missing the bulk of four games with injuries, seniorRB ANTHONY EVANS still led the Cougars in rushing with788 yards and his 98.5 yards per game would’ve ranked himfourth in Conference USA had he played in enough conteststo qualify. His 282 yards rushing vs. Army was the second-highest single-game total in UH history.

n To take advantage of their athleticism and put morepressure on opposing quarterbacks, the Cougar defense isconverting from a 4-3 package to a 3-4 alignment for 2005.This switch marks the first time since the 1998 season thatthe Cougars will employ a 3-4 defensive set up.

n Senior KADE LANE, who has started all 36 games sincearriving at Houston, will switch from defensive tackle todefensive end this season. Last year, Lane had 52 tackles, including five tackles for loss and three sacks.

COUGAR GREAT

ANDRE WAREThe 1989 Heisman Trophy winner, Ware was a 2004 inductee into theCollege Football Hall of Fame. Ware was named first-team All-American by four publications in 1989 after leading the Cougars to a9-2 record and No. 14 national ranking. Ware threw for 4,699 yards and46 touchdowns during his senior season, which at the time were UH single-season records. He had four games where he passed formore than 400 yards that season and also threw for a career-highseven touchdowns in a victory over Temple. The Detroit Lions made Ware their first-round pick in the 1990 NFL Draft with the No. 7 overall selection.
