Proud to be Parkville Knights
Parkville HS PTSA Is Here for YOU Vol.1, Issue 1, Sept. 30, 2014
In order to have a successful PTSA, it needs not only volunteers,
sharers of talent, and money, but it honestly needs members.
Here at the PHS PTSA, we try to make everything we do for the
kids have an element of fun, so that we can enjoy ourselves with
our kids. If each of our Parkville parents gave the PTSA an hour
of their time, we could be soooooo productive! So, the first thing
we would like you to do is to JOIN the Parkville High School PTSA.
While your children no longer need you to hold your hand as they
cross the street, they still need you to be a big part of their lives.
As such, this is the perfect time for you to be involved in their
school! We want our children to have pride in their school, and
as always parents are the necessary modelers of behavior for their
kids. Our school has much to be proud of:
Our Magnet Program is terrific and designed to put our students
ahead of the curve when they graduate
Our Art and Music programs are stellar and staffed by incredible
artists and musicians. Our students are recognized annually for
their incredible talents.
PHS Athletics is awesome with teams ranging from outstanding
varsity level to numerous Allied Sports teams.
Please consider joining us. You’ll be happy you did, and you’ll
enjoy the high school experience so much more with our support!
The following events will be occurring during the first and sec-
ond quarters, and we hope to be able to use your talents and
time for some of these events:
PHSPTSA Dumpster Day #1— October 18
PTSA Race for Education— November 11 and November 12
October Meeting: October 16, 2014 @ 6:30
After Prom Meeting: October 2, 2014 to be held at the Parkville
Family Center YMCA
We ask for your help because we can’t do enough for our school
without your help. Please consider having some fun with us
while we do important things for our school!
PHS PTSA Coming Events
In this issue, we will highlight
some of our board members,

volvement, spirit-wear infor-
mation, and a word from Dr.
Dance.
Our Parkville high School PTSA is very pleased to welcome you back to Parkville, and to greet all of the
new freshmen students and parents! We meet on the third Thursday of each month during Septem-
ber, October, November, January, February, March,, April and May. We cannot wait to see you join
us at our monthly meetings as well as for our events and fundraising nights. In this newsletter, we

Membership—AKA, we need YOU!
PTSA in The Community
Did you know that the Parkville
High School PTSA partners with
the Parkville Carney Business
Association to help with the
annual Parkville Towne Fair
each fall? This year, we helped
with the 2nd annual Kiddie Ar-
ea, where we had video games,
an obstacle course, and a
bouncy area for young kids. It
was a lot of fun to work within
the Parkville community. Our
student volunteers enjoyed it
also!

Meet the Peeps Behind YOUR PTSA
My name is Dana Neill. I am the mother of 3 boys and a wife
to my wonderful husband Bruce Neill. My middle child is starting
his senior year of high school, and I am in my third year of being
the President of this awesome PTSA. Outside of PTSA I am a BCPS
employee. I spend my days working with Kindergarten children
who keep me on my toes. I enjoy spending time with my family
and hearing about their days, taking road trips and just enjoying
family life. To me volunteering is a daily part of who I am, and
seeing how much of a difference I can make. I hope I can share my
enjoyment with all of you. Please e-mail me at
[email protected] or call 443-845-2699 with any questions.
Dana Neill, President Vol. 1, Issue 1, Sept. 30, 2014
Antoinette Hammett, Treasurer My name is Antoinette Hammett. I enjoy solving puzzles and vol-
unteering, so I volunteered to be the PHS PTSA’s Treasurer. I just
finished my third tour of high school duty, as my middle daughter
graduated Parkville with the Class of 2014. My oldest is preparing
to graduate from college this year, and I am gearing up for one
last round of high school as my youngest daughter begins her high
school career here at Parkville. I look forward to serving on the
Parkville High School PTSA.
Margaret Banks, Membership
My name is Jennifer Anderson. I have one child, a boy who is begin-
ning his sophomore year at Parkville High School. I enjoy being with
people, and making things happen. I am excited to be involved in
Parkville High School’s PTSA, because I enjoy working for a purpose,
and I have experience implementing fundraisers and social events. In
my life outside of school, I am the Manager of Operations at the Balti-
more Visitor’s Center at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
Jennifer Anderson, Vice President
My name is Margaret Banks. I serve the PHS PTSA as the member-
ship chair and I am the mother of two. My son is a senior in the
magnet program and I have a daughter in her freshman year at
the Carver Center. I have been involved in the PTSA since my
son’s freshman year. I am also involved in the Class of 2015, the
Magnet Boosters, and PTSA Senior Banner program. I enjoy vol-
unteering and knowing what is going on in my kids’ lives
Lexa Newman, Secretary
My name is Lexa Newman. I am the PTSA Secretary. I enjoy
baking, cooking, and volunteering. I have spent a large portion
of the last 10 years volunteering, and I hope to continue doing
so for a long, long time! I have two boys, one of whom graduat-
ed from the Magnet program at Parkville in 2005, went on to
the Naval Academy, and is now stationed in Italy, where he and
his wife are awaiting the birth of my first grandchild!

Parent’s University—A Note from Dr. S. Dallas Dance Vol.1, Issue 1, Sept. 30, 2014
Parkville PTSA and The Greene Turtle
Our very first Restaurant Night will be at The Greene
Turtle of White Marsh! On October 16, from 5:00—
8:30pm we will be able to raise some funds just by going
out to eat! But that’s not all. . . We will be holding two
drawings that evening, courtesy of The Greene Turtle—
one drawing will be for a $20 gift card to The Greene
Turtle, and the second will be for a The Greene Turtle t-
shirt! Remember though: be sure to tell your server that you are at The Greene Turtle to
support the Parkville High School PTSA! Your eating out for us means that we can do more
for our families, students and teachers at Parkville High, and we appreciate what you do!
The PTSA and Our Community
Below, you will see some of the activities our PTSA student members participated with at the
Parkville Towne Fair.
The PTSA has received a letter from Dr. Dance recently, re-
minding us about a new #TeamBCPS initiative that benefits par-
ents. His letter was instructive about a program that has only
been available since last spring. This program is called Parent
University, and it can be accessed by going to this website:
http://www.bcps.org/parentu/
Parent University is a multi-faceted site that has helpful topics
regarding your child’s academics, with regards what you can
expect from the school system as well as how to prepare them
for after school; regarding your family’s health; furthering your
own education if you’d like; as well as family services offered by
Baltimore County Public Schools.
It is our hope that you will take Dr. Dance up on his offer to explore, not only the Parent Uni-
versity online, but also the parents page of the Baltimore County Public School website:
http://www.bcps.org/parents/ for general information helpful to you!
Facts vs Myths Volunteering for High School PTSA
Myth: The PTSA is for moms with time to bake and make crafts.
Fact: The PTSA is for everyone! Our volunteers are mothers, fathers and people who fill those
roles. We have a wide range of volunteers who: stay-at-home; work part-time to full-time; have
little ones at home, preschoolers, high schoolers.
Myth: The PTSA has all the help they need.
FACT: The PTSA welcomes everyone and continues to need volunteers for various events,
fundraisers, and committees year-round. We need you!
Myth: Volunteering for the PTSA takes too much time.
FACT: Only YOU can decide how much time you can give. Even if you can help at just one
event or handle one task per year, it would be greatly appreciated.
Myth: PTSA volunteers need to be at the school during the day
FACT: Much of the PTSA work can be done from home on your own schedule, or at events at
night or weekends. There IS volunteering during the school day if you are able to do so. But no
one does it all, so choose what works best for you.
Myth: The PTSA has the same volunteers year after year and everyone knows each other.
FACT: While we are fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who return, we also welcome
new ones every year. We strike up new friendships and enjoy getting to know one another. It’s a
great chance to get to know parents from other grades you may not have met otherwise. We
would love to meet and get to know you.
Myth: The PTSA is all set with their activities and events for the year.
FACT: Each year, the PTSA brings back favorites and tries new activities, fund-
raisers and events. Those new ideas come from volunteers. For example, a vol-
unteer suggested a new fundraiser that will include students getting active and
we made it happen with our Race For Education. While we try to plan ahead,
it’s only the beginning of the school year and there’s still plenty of time to do
even more for the students and school this year. And we want you to be a part
of it all!
