PHS All ‘Environmental Sciences’ Field Trip When: Tue. Nov. 07, 2017 Where: “Shedd Aquarium” Cost: $16.00 (for bus) Bring: Sack lunch & water or money to buy your lunch Wear: Comfortable shoes and appropriate school clothing Dear Parents and Students, The PHS environmental science classes, AP and regular, have the opportunity to study Ecology using the Biodiversity at the Shedd Aquarium. Students will be exploring concepts of Ocean Acidification- coral gardening, Plastic Pollution - washed ashore, Climate Change, & Evolution by identifying adaptations that ensure animal survival in their specific aquatic habitats. Students will also see the Aquatic Show, at no cost. Students will need to bring a brown bag lunch and a drink (preferably a refillable water bottle) or they may purchase a lunch (~ $12.00) in the Shedd Cafe. Prepare for the weather in case we have to wait outside for entry. We ask that all participants represent Plainfield High School in a positive manner throughout the day. For the full day’s schedule, please see the agenda on the back. Students need to meet in the freshmen cafe at 7:05 am for attendance, and like normal, late students will have to go to the raptor desk. We will depart by 7:20 am for Shedd and should arrive there by 8:30 am. We will return by 2:00 pm for regular school dismissal. We are asking for $16.00 to cover the cost of the bus. Schedule:

7:05 am – Meet in the Freshmen Café (Note: backpacks and bags will be searched at the museum)

9:00 am – enter the Shedd, coat check, brown bag check, and personal locker $0.75 S. - $1.25 L. (optional)

10:45 am – Lunch room reserved for those eating sack lunches (others may eat at any time)

12:30 pm – Dolphin show

1:00 pm SHARP! – Bus leaves for Plainfield H.S.

2:00 pm arrive back in Plainfield

Other FREE Options - Check information desk or ask an exhibit interpreter for times of the following

Meet a Scientist! Listen to them talk about unique facts on the organisms they specialize in, and have the

opportunity to ask them questions.

Live Diver in the Caribbean Reef (large aquarium at the front main entrance) - 10:30am & 12:00pm

Touch Exhibits – Sea star touch (Polar Play Zone & Underwater Viewing), Sturgeon touch (Great Lakes

Exhibit), and weather permitting Stingray touch (Outside 4-D theater)

Shark Scientist - 9:45am and 11:15am (in the wild reef - downstairs)

Beluga Scientist - 11am (at Beluga exhibit)

Penguin Scientist - 9:45am (at Penguin exhibit – downstairs)

Ask what else other cool things are going on that day – staff members have the inside info!

I hereby give permission and consent for my son/daughter, to participate in

the Shedd Aquarium Biodiversity Field Trip (Unique Characteristics/Adaptations) on Tue., 11-07-17,

sponsored by Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 and to be transported by a school bus.

1. CONDUCT: I understand that my student must comply with the provisions of the Student Handbook and

other rules of conduct established by the School District while participating in this activity. I have

discussed this requirement with my student.

2. EMERGENCY MEDICAL AID: I hereby give permission for the School District secure whatever emergency

medical treatment my student needs in connection with the activity.
