Dear Parishioners, Happy Valentine to you all!!! You have been giving me the best experience ever of my life because I feel so loved, valued and respected for being who I am among. I wish that I can love you ten times over. I have been getting very good feedback for all the parish celebrations of last weekend. Thank you to the Archbishop, Fr Dan Ryan, all the priest guests, Fr Raju, the Parish staff, the amazing team on our front door and the Welcoming Committee. May the God who is Love, bless you with love and make you all channels of Love to one another. We have had six Sundays in the Ordinary Time in the Churchs liturgical year and next weekend will be the First Sunday of Lent . This sixth Sunday in ordinary time in our Parish will be for us, a Sunday of prayer and commissioning to being Missionary Disciples of Jesus in response to the Call to all Catholicsinitiative. This is a call we have already answered in Baptism. All the baptised have been called and sent out to the whole world as prophets, priests and kings. Hence, the Archdiocese of Brisbane is only reawakening our consciousness to the gifts and responsibilities we have in the world that we live in here and now. The Vision and Mission of our Parish is also in line with this Call to all Catholicsand the call made to you at your Baptism. The three pillars of mission are to build and grow a Christian Community through Prayer and Spirituality, thus enabling us to offer a new Evangelisation to the world around us. As members of this vibrant community of Our Lady of Lourdes, Sunnybank, we are called to build the wider city of God beyond ourselves by our words and actions. I challenge you to intentionally practice the commissioning we get at the end of every Mass; Go in Peace and Glorify the Lord by your life”. As a work in progress, we will keep trying to improve on how our Masses are to be booked, the entrance, seating and exiting processes in our Church. We appreciate your understanding, your patience, your suggestions and your cooperation. You will be receiving an attached copy of a brochure on the new steps to booking in for Mass together with our newsletter this weekend. Please follow the steps in order to book for our Masses as this will allow us to have more attendance. I am sure we will all appreciate this process once we get familiar with it. You are also welcome to pick up a copy of the brochure at the front door of the Church. This Wednesday we start another round of the Lenten season, beginning with Ash Wednesday, when we are reminded We are the dust of the earth”. This year the priest will not be making the sign of the cross on your foreheads but ashes will be sprinkled on our heads due to COVID. The Lenten Purple and Black books are available for your daily reflections and I encourage you to buy a copy for yourself . Lenten reflections — As part of our Parish Lenten Program, we will be having two masses on all the Fridays in Lent; Masses at 6:30am and 8.30am. There will be time for the Stations of the Cross every Friday evening at 6.00pm. Our Parish Mission Retreat posters are out and you can now begin to book for the days and sessions you will be attending. See page 3 of this newsletter for details for the Novena, Bible Study, Sacramental programme, Friendship group and the retreat. Some of our parishioners are unwell and we are grateful for all your prayer for the unwell parishioners and friends. Keep supporting with your prayers and goodwill. Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time: Year B

First Reading: Leviticus 13: 1-2, 44-46 This excerpt from Leviticus provides a taste of the conditions that people afflicted with skin diseases had to endure under the Mosaic Law.

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 10: 31-11: 1 Paul talks of life modelled on Christ, one that looks out for other ’s best interest.

Gospel: Mark 1: 4-45 Jesus shows a profound sense of compassion and solidarity when confronted with one whose disease left them particularly objectionable and vulnerable.

ENCYCLICAL LETTER LAUDATO SI’

OF THE HOLY FATHER FRANCIS ON CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME What is Happening to our Common Home

IV. DECLINE IN THE QUALITY OF HUMAN LIFE AND THE BREAKDOWN OF SOCIETY

47. Furthermore, when media and the digital world become omnipresent, their influence can stop people from learning how to live wisely, to think deeply and to love generously. In this context, the great sages of the past run the risk of going unheard amid the noise and distractions of an information overload. Efforts need to be made to help these media become sources of new cultural progress for humanity and not a threat to our deepest riches. True wisdom, as the fruit of self-examination, dialogue and generous encounter between persons, is not acquired by a mere accumulation of data which eventually leads to overload and confusion, a sort of mental pollution. Real relationships with others, with all the challenges they entail, now tend to be replaced by a type of internet communication which enables us to choose or eliminate relationships at whim, thus giving rise to a new type of contrived emotion which has more to do with devices and displays than with other people and with nature. Today’s media do enable us to communicate and to share our knowledge and affections. Yet at times they also shield us from direct contact with the pain, the fears and the joys of others and the complexity of their personal experiences. For this reason, we should be concerned that, alongside the exciting possibilities offered by these media, a deep and melancholic dissatisfaction with interpersonal relations, or a harmful sense of isolation, can also arise.

Youth and Young Adult Ministry

For any enquiries (re:

for UNITE please contact

me via youth details on

If you are a Singer or Musician >> Join our Youth Mass Music Ministry that adds so much richness and quality to youth mass every Sunday at 6pm. If we are on the pews benefiting from it, it’s only because some among us have volunteered to use our time, skills and talents for the common good. Likewise, if you’d like to be on any other youth mass roles - live streaming, reading or ushering, please contact 0403 182 617 ASAP. * Practice is just from 4:30pm before 6pm Mass on the Sunday you are playing. Songs will be sent in advance

We are looking for those in grade 10 or above and young adults to help as leaders who together with the youth coordinator run teens nights and young adults night respectively. Most past leaders have claimed this as a way to have fun, fulfilment and growth in faith. It really doesn’t take much, just an active interest to grow in your faith and help others to do the same. Youth nights only happen twice a month (and breaks during school break). Please email, text or call ASAP on youth contact details to start your adventure beyond the pews!

KEEP CALM and enjoy the ‘Wind of Change’: draw close to God, be

creative, watch - how people would evolve to learn to live through this

time, coming up creatively with ways to do the things we love doing, as

even church and youth ministry will adopt some changes in the way we

deliver. Follow this page and Unite Sunnybank on Facebook

Our first Youth Night will be a social night. Bring your energy and get ready for lots of exciting games, share pizza with friends and have an opportunity to say farewell to Athira, our Youth Co-Ordinator. This will be a jam-packed night of fun that you won’t want to miss.
