Fourth Sunday of Easter: Year C

First Reading: Acts 1: 14, 43-52 This reading records for us the growing realization in the early church that the message of the resurrection was for all humanity, and indeed all creation. It is closed to no one.

Second Reading: Apocalypse 7: 9, 14-17 Our text from the Book of Revelation brings out three of the foundational resurrection themes. The church is for all races, peoples and languages. Following Christ does mean facing distress and even death. However the risen Jesus is at the centre of all creation, and the source of care and protection.

Gospel: John 10: 27-30 The care and protection that Christ offers is life within the triune love of God.

‘GAUDETE ET EXSULTATE’ Rejoice and Exult

Your Mission in Christ

23. This is a powerful summons to all of us. You too need to see the entirely of your life as a mission. Try to do so by listening to God in prayer and recognising the signs that he gives you. Always ask the Spirit what Jesus expects from you at every moment of your life and in every decision you must make, so as to discern its place in the mission you have received. Allow the Spirit to forge in you the personal mystery that can reflect Jesus Christ in today’s world.

24. May you come to realise what that word is, the message of Jesus that God wants to speak to the world by your life. Let yourself be transformed. Let yourself be renewed by the Spirit, so that this can happen, lest you fail in your precious mission. The Lord will bring it to fulfilment despite your mistakes and missteps, provided that you do not abandon the path of love but remain ever open to his supernatural grace, which purifies and enlightens.

SUNNYBANK SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMUNITY MAKE SURE YOUR VOTE COUNTS

The Bishop of Parramatta, Bishop Vincent Long has given us a guide when we cast our vote next weekend. He asks us to think about: A commitment to the family as the central building block of the common good and society; Just and equitable funding for Catholic education which contributes so much to our Australian society; The development of a sustainable economy that recognises the right to work and the necessity of a just economy as outlined in the

ACBC 2017-2018 statement Everyone’s Business – Developing an inclusive and sustainable economy; Active engagement and promotion of peace within and between societies. The use of non-violence as an essential mechanism to

solve disputes and as the agent of social change. Ensuring that no one is discriminated on the basis of race, gender, religion and that proper freedoms are legislated to guarantee that

people are free to speak, teach and act according to their own religious beliefs, in line with the encyclicals of Pope Saint John XXIII Pacem in terris and Mater et magistra and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 18);

A commitment to supporting the disadvantaged, the dispossessed, the oppressed beyond our borders, especially those in our region. This includes increasing overseas aid and helping West Papuan refugees.

‘I encourage all Catholics to contribute to the common good. May the Holy Spirit guide us as we all work towards building a loving society where the poor and the suffering are our first priority.’

Friends, as you are aware the Parish has a Columbarium which is located along the southern side of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, in a quiet location, surrounded with gardens and seating. There are two granite walls at present, with other walls to be erected in the future, for the resting place of the mortal remains of our loved ones. The Columbarium garden is a peaceful prayer filled garden, and offers a special area for prayer and reflection. You can reserve a Niche in the Columbarium by making an Application for the intended use by either yourselves or others. You will be asked to sign a contract and pay for the Niche. The cost is $1,865 (incl GST) and this includes the reservation of the Niche, cost of Memorial Plaque, engraving and blessing. For further information please contact the Parish Office on 3345 3766.
