This happens when a parent of caretaker chooses not to fulfill their duties to care, provide and interact with their children.

There are all types of neglect, which include:-Emotional- Educational- Physical, which includes: - health care - abandonment - nutrition - hazards in home - lack of clothing - safety ( any where’s which includes in a vehicle)

Chronic depression Difficulty with relationships Poor health & growth Anger & rage Low self-esteem Behavioral problems Poor social skills Learning disabilities & low academic achievement Un normal brain functions & in formation processing face chronic illnesses or early death Experience poverty or unemployment

** But there are all different kinds of effects on children, based on what their neglected from.***

Mothers are found to be the neglectful parent in 72% of neglect cases. (DHHS, Children’s Bureau, 1998)

One of the most obvious features of neglectful families is that everyone is neglected. (Crittenden, 1992)

47% of care givers of children with neglect surfer from abuse. (Health Canada, 2001)

More children die from neglect then from abuse. (Mosher, 1994)

More children die from neglect than from abuse (Mosher, 19943).

1 in 43 infants are victims of neglect and that neglect predicts aggressive behavior later in life. (ABA Child Law Practice, 2008)

66% of children are neglected between the ages of 0-1 years old

34% of teens are neglected between ages 12- 17
