MARCH FOR LIFE 2018

Mass at St. Jerome’s Church at 6:00 a.m.

Depart St. Jerome’s parking lot at 6:30 a.m.

Return to St. Jerome’s parking lot at appx. 9:30 p.m.

The March for Life began as a small demonstration in 1973 and

rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. The

peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anni-

versary every year since 1973 is a witness to the truth concern-

ing the greatest human rights violation of our time: abortion.

Join us and half a million pro-lifers as we head once

again to Washington, D.C. on Friday, January 19, 2018 for

the 45th annual March For Life as we walk from

the Washington Monument up Constitution Av to the Supreme

Court. Always peaceful and uplifting, The March

For Life offers you the opportunity to stop in at your federal

legislators' offices and let them know how you feel (and

vote!). Defunding the abortion industry, de-

funding embryonic stem cell research, voting down

"right to die" and "death with dignity" euthanasia legislation

are all current hot-button topics you can weigh in on.

We hope that you can join us! Round-trip transportation is still only a

$10 donation which may be paid with a check payable to St. Jerome’s

Church. Bus passengers under 18 years of age must be accompanied

by a parent or legal guardian. To sign-up or for further information:

call Kathryn at 732-581-9735.

short three-block walk from the Cathedral. This Rally

Simbang Gabi Mass On Thursday, Dec. 21, St. Michael's Church hosted one of the

nine consecutive Simbang Gabi Masses in Monmouth County. It

was the first time that St. Michael’s hosted Simbang Gabit and it

was a huge success! There was a very strong turnout (175 people-

-more than what we expected to come). Six members of the clergy

were present at the altar, along with our parish volunteer altar

servers and ministers. Two traditional Simbang Gabi symbols

stood out during the Mass: the offering of the empty manger dur-

ing the Offertory, and the presence of the "parol" (star lantern) at

the altar. The Filipino language was heard in the readings and

songs during the Mass. Our Pastor, Father Butler, even used a few

Tagalog words in his Welcome Remarks, greeting everyone

"Maligayang Pasko" and mentioning a few Filipino delicacies like

puto, pancit, lumpia, etc. The parish’s Hospitality Committee did

a wonderful job setting up for the reception that followed the

Mass. We had miniature Philippine flags as table centerpieces.

People got to try the puto, pancit, and lumpia that Father Butler

had mentioned. Indeed, a good time was had by all. Thanks to

everyone who worked so hard to make Simbang Gabi at St.

Michael's a faith-filled and fun-filled event.

The parish's Children's Choir is pictured above in the rectory on Christmas Eve just prior to singing at our Family 4:00 Christmas

Vigil Mass. With the choir is Choir Director Alicia Brozovich. The choir members donned their choir robes and warmed up their voices in the

rectory before processing to the church for the Mass. Their music was prayerful and beautiful and enhanced everyone’s celebration of the birth

of Our Lord. We are grateful to all the members of the choir, their parents, family members, and volunteer helpers and to Choir Director “Miss

Alicia,” Coordinator of Religious Education Patty Chavez, and Music Director Paul Bergin for their hard work and diligent, cheerful

efforts. Plans are being formulated and will be announced shortly for the continuation of the Children's Choir and for a renewed

initiative to revive the Adults' Choir and the Hand Bell Choir at St. Michael's. We’ll be looking for, hoping for, and praying for

an enthusiastic response in great numbers from our parishioners (adults and teenagers, too!!!) when the call goes out later in

the New Year for sign-ups and rehearsals for the Adult Choir and the Hand Bell Choir. We’re eager to have two more choirs at

St. Michael’s that rival the excellence of the Children’s Choir! Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, Do!!!

BIBLE STUDY—WINTER SESSIONS

All Are Welcome!!

Last semester we studied the Book of Ezekiel. Now, as we resume, the Israelites have returned to Judah after

the Babylonian exile. Did they learn their lesson? How does what happened so long ago impact our lives to-

day? Do the words of the ancient prophets have relevance today? Can we learn from history?

Please join us as we continue our journey through the Old Testament (no prior knowledge is necessary). Beginning the week of January 15th and continuing through the week of March 19th. Please select a session and place in the box at the back of the church. _____ Mondays—7:00 P.M.—Outreach Center (6 West End Court)

_____ Tuesdays—8:30 a.m.—Lower Church (after 8:00 a.m. Mass)
