House Day Orientation Programs 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Meet housemates and get to know your house staff. Become familiar with campus and your housing community through programs and activities led by your housefellow. Your orientation counselor and resident assistant will provide details at your first floor meeting.

The sun will celebrate the first days of the Class of 2021+ with a rare solar eclipse! The sky will begin to darken at 1:10 p.m. and by 2:35 p.m., 80 percent of the sun will be covered. If you’re able to step away from orientation activities, you can view the eclipse through a telescope with the CMU Astronomy Club in the early afternoon. Or you can view the eclipse from anywhere by looking at the ground under a

tree — the openings between leaves act as pinhole cameras that project images of the eclipse on the ground. Do not look directly at the sun unless wearing glasses that are made for this purpose. (If the sky is cloudy, the eclipse won’t be visible.)
