RABBITS

The domestic rabbits found in the game reserve are a challenge that needs attention. They

carry disease that can be detrimental to the well-being of the wild game. The rabbits will be

captured and taken off-site to be re-housed. Rabbits are cute and cuddly but this difficult task

needs to be done. The rabbit populations on the golf course will also have to be removed.

Please also note that the feeding of the rabbits exasperates the problem because rabbits will

naturally have fewer litters or fewer babies when food is scarce. Should you have a rabbit

as a pet, please ensure that this rabbit is kept within the boundaries of your

property at all times.

Should you wish to comment on the above, please send an email to [email protected].

FIBRE EXPLOSION AT SILVER LAKES>9

Telkom fibre-to-the-homeproject

The fibre infrastructure valued at more than R20 million will be ready for

individual house connections by end of October starting with houses in Phase 2.

The overhead fibre cables have all been installed where necessary, approximately 60 manholes

still need to be replaced/closed and micro trenching needs to take place in Pebble Beach

Drive. Contractors will be working on weekends to join the fibre cables in order to ensure

the timelines are met. However, no digging or noise-generating work will be undertaken.

Since the network is an ‘open’ network, residents may use an internet service provider of

their choice.

Telkom, Vox and Mweb will be presenting their offerings and value added services to residents

at an open day at the Clubhouse shortly. Please keep a lookout for the dates and times of

these sessions.

FIBRE EXPLOSION AT SILVER LAKES CONT.>10

Fibre explosion at Silver LakesWe’ve all heard the ads on the radio, or read them in magazines, the ones

telling us that ‘fibre is here’ or that it is ‘coming to a suburb near you’, but

what does it all mean, and how do you choose between all the companies

offering to ‘light you up’?

Let’s start at the beginning. We chat to Jacques du Toit, Silver Lakes resident

and CEO of Vox Telecom.

Q: What’s the big deal about fibre, and how is it different to ADSL?

Du Toit: Fibre is like ADSL on steroids - it is up to 250 times faster, more reliable and

more stable than traditional fixed-line broadband services such as ADSL. It allows you

to work and interact differently. It allows for multiple smart devices in your home to

instantly connect and work uninterrupted. Its fast download speeds are redefining

how we work, study and play. Think - no buffering while you’re watching a YouTube

video, and quick and easy content downloading. Imagine - movie downloads that

are almost quicker than making a bag of microwave popcorn. ll you back.

Q: So where does one get fibre?

Du Toit: The companies that are digging up pavements and laying the fibre in the ground are the infrastructure providers - they are creating the backbone, the network, on top of which internet services can be provided. At Silver Lakes we have an open access fibre network provided by Telkom.

Q: What is open access?

Du Toit: It means that as residents we have a choice of internet service providers (ISPs) and can make our selection based on our needs, our budgets and the packages they are offering.

Q: But isn’t an ISP the same as an infrastructure provider?

Du Toit: An ISP is the enabler of what is possible with fibre. An infrastructure provider lays the fibre in the ground, and provides the network or backbone for running services, like internet connectivity and is responsible for any maintenance that is required.

Without an ISP in place, that fibre will lay dormant in the ground, despite its capability to connect and transmit data.

Q: So how do you know which ISP to choose?

Du Toit: Obviously, I’d love everyone to connect to Vox, as we provide so much more than fibre connectivity. We’ve created a unique offering with our fibre bundles that enable unlimited browsing, unlimited calling and unlimited entertainment for the whole family. All our contracts are month-to-month.

Q: So, we’ve chosen to switch to fibre, what will change?

Du Toit: Switching to fibre will allow you to use the internet like never before. It’s like switching from a bicycle to a four wheel drive SUV. With a superfast connection, you can go further, faster, and uninterrupted.

To find out more about the VoxFibre bundles offered in Silver Lakes, SMS ‘SilverLakes’ to 43322 and a Vox consultant will call you back.
