The Drop Box System will go live on 1 July, however, we will be

conducting test runs up until then. This is how the system will work:

Restaurant Customers: The Restaurant customers will arrive at the

gate, their license disk will be scanned and their details will be taken

down. They will then be given an entry card which will be numbered,

this will be added to their details. Once they have finished up at the

restaurant and upon presentation of the settled bill, the restaurant

staff will then take the customer’s entry card, and supply them

with an exit card. This card will be numbered, and will correlate

with the entry card’s number. Once the customer gets to the exit

DROP BOX SYSTEM Operational From 01 July

boom they will simply put the card into the drop box and this will

in turn open the boom.

DASH Office Tenants: The DASH Offices will work similarly to the

restaurant. The customer/client will arrive at the gate; their details

will be taken down. The guards will then make contact with the

respective DASH Office to advise them about their client/customer.

They will be given an entry card and will receive an exit card from

the respective DASH office.

• ONLY THE EXIT WILL BE PROGRAMMED TO OPEN THE BOOM.

Janine, to say you are an incredible sportswoman is an understatement. You have been involved in, and excelled in many sports throughout your life. Tell us about your career and achievements thus far.Ha ha, to say that is laughable, but I’d probably say I’m more competitive than anything else. It’s the competitive streak that drives me to try do well at most of the sporty type things I do. I’m comfortable and capable in water which is why I enjoy most water sports. Having said that, things like natural talent in the surf is not my strong point. I’m probably more brave and stupid which is why I attempt most things regardless of my capabilities. I did well at swimming at school, and was in the first team hockey and athletics team, but didn’t really go beyond provincial level. After finishing school, I played Collegians Old Girls hockey and there I met two ladies that also played Underwater hockey. I figured since I loved hockey and Swimming, this might be the sport for me! So I started playing socially at Kings Park when I was 20, but only after travelling and returning from London, did I start taking it seriously and I was hooked. I have competed for the SA ELITE Ladies team four times; the first time was Tri-nations against New Zealand and Australia which we won. The second time was the World Champs in Durban 2008 where we lost in the final to Australia. In 2011 the World Champs was in Portugal. My most memorable game ever was at this tournament.

We played a round robin and ended in a three way tie at the top of the log with New Zealand and Great Britain. We faced a lower placed French team in the play offs and after a full 30 minutes, the score was 1-1. We played a further 10 minutes extra time with still no result and played sudden death until a goal was scored. Fourteen minutes later, sadly, the inspired French team scored the golden goal and we lost. We ended in fifth place. A tough result after one of the toughest matches I had ever played! It was close to an hour of intense swimming and breath holding with no substitute! I took the loss badly! However, in March this year, I competed in the World UWH Champs in Stellenbosch. Thirteen countries competed in the Ladies Elite Division. In the final we beat the defending champions, New Zealand, 4-3. This was an amazing result for our team and great time for me to finally hang up my fins and retire from the SA ladies team!

What is your favourite sport you have participated in and why?I really enjoyed outdoor hockey but I wasn’t as good as I would like to have been. Nowadays, I would definitely say its underwater hockey. I like it because it’s intense and it’s a sport that gives you an extreme workout while still having the fun of a team sport. Technology made a big difference in underwater hockey and added some new dimensions to the game.

In 2005 they introduced carbon fibre fins which made a huge difference because one could swim at great speed and turn and accelerate quickly. The sticks and the puck were improved which made the flicks further and harder. All this impacted the game immensely and took it to another level. Training for UWH, one has to work on their anaerobic and aerobic fitness. That is why I started body surfing. I found that diving under the waves, the hard paddling and kicking with fins to get to backline, the acceleration when trying to catch a wave and getting dumped regularly was similar to the fitness I needed to sustain a 30 minute underwater hockey game. My lack of self discipline when it comes to training is why I always try to make training fun. Body boarding and body surfing were great ways to make the training fun, rather than hitting the gym or swimming laps!

You are supermom to triplet girls! Tell us a bit about your family. Supermom? Phew! It really doesn’t feel like it! Honestly... I just do what I can and sometimes when it’s too much, I work or play more... Hence I play a lot of sport and work very hard! Most people recall 11 September 2001 as the day the Twin Towers were struck by two aeroplanes and their subsequent collapse. For Andrew and myself, it’s the day we found out I was pregnant with the triplets. It most

certainly was a life changing event. On the 20 /02/ 2002 I gave birth to our three girls, Olivia, Jemma and Megan. I had predicted the date six months earlier as it looked like a special and different date. Everything was certainly different with my pregnancy, so I figured it would probably make sense they would arrive on that day! A fitting date for our babies’ arrival! They were born 8 weeks premature and weighed about 1.5 kgs each at birth. Even though they were early and small we were lucky they were healthy! From that day onwards it has been fun and games in our household.

Your girls have also excelled in many things as well, give us some background on their achievements. The girls swim as well. When they were younger they were good at long distance running, but they ran less and less as they got older. Swimming is all consuming at the moment as the girls are practicing and training very hard. Megan won Midmar Mile this year, Jemma placed seventh and Olivia placed 17th in the girls under 13 age group race. This was the seventh time they have completed the Midmar Mile. Two of them qualified for the Olympic trials this year which was a great experience for them and was amazing for them to be able to compete.

They played first team hockey and netball at junior school but since starting high school this year they are only swimming. It is a lot more intense and competitive than I ever remember and there is not much time for anything else if you want to compete at a high level! They have all competed in the SA Nipper Surf and Stillwater Lifesaving Champs this year. They did well and brought home some silverware in various events!

Being an extremely busy mom with sport, triplets and family, what do you enjoy doing in your down time?I’m travelling quite a bit for work these days so I’m lucky that my husband, Andrew, works from home and is flexible. So between the two of us and my Mum, (Granny Jane) we manage to juggle our busy schedules. When the weather is great I love body surfing, and catching a ray around the pool. I try to train as a way to relax and I include that as part of my downtime. Shopping, movies and a good book are always a treat!

What is your favourite thing about living on the North Coast? The weather is great, especially the winters. I like the fact that we are now a bit of a bigger village and yet we are still a small village if that makes sense?

We are still small enough to know so many people around and people we have grown up with, but it’s also big enough to be able to get on with your own thing if you want to.

What do you enjoy doing in and around Ballito…any hidden gems we should know about? With travelling so much these days I don’t get out and about as much as I used to, but a firm favourite in our family is Salt Café. They have the most amazing pizzas! We love Zara’s and the burgers at the Grand Stand are winners too! The girls are enjoying their Pilates with Tash Barnard and she is always great helping us out and fitting them in.

How do you balance life with having a such a busy family? Not quite sure we do, we just hang in there! Everything is new and we take it day by day. There is no rule book for raising triplets and being a working mom but we do what we need to do, to the best of our ability. Trying to keep a healthy balance seems impossible…but I guess if you can appreciate what you have and count your blessings then we are doing okay!

You are a well known Dunkirk resident. What do you enjoy about the Estate and what made you choose Dunkirk to call your home?We have lived in Dunkirk for approximately nine years. We originally chose it because it wasn’t one of the ‘bigger’ estates. I liked the fact that it was slightly less conforming as opposed to the big ones. I haven’t been fined yet, but seeing as I’m only 200 metres and at least 2 speed bumps from the entrance I can’t really speed! I love the big trees and vegetation because you don’t feel like you are living in a busy estate. It creates a relaxed environment and we have a buck that sleeps in our garden at night! We love the Beach Club House and really wish we used it more.

What are the goals you and your family have set yourselves for the coming year?I think with travelling a lot I would like to make sure I spend more quality time at home. By that I mean less TV, social media and more family meals and braais etc… Andrew has started taking the girls to the Dunkirk Gym in the mornings... So we will see how that goes! We are trying to eat healthily as a family and cut down on sugar. We are trying to remain injury free and keep the kids motivated to do well at school. Another big goal this year would be to de-clutter the house and get rid of lots of junk in our garage. Simple but so hard! Maybe a nice holiday at the end of the year….?

After a grueling two years of training Dunkirk resident, Juan Cam-pher completed the 2016 Comrades Marathon in 10 hours 57 min-utes, achieving his personal goal of completing in under 11 hours. Af-ter many mornings of the dreaded alarm going off at 5:45am in rain, wind or heat and pressing on to getting as much mileage into his legs as possible in preparation for the epic run, he is very relieved with his end result. The question now remains - will he do a back to back and finish the up run in 2017? Juan is a member of Dolphin Striders Running Club based at Salt Rock Country Club.

Estate living in South Africa is appealing to many and therefore is a growing need, for various reasons. Some are searching for security, others for low maintenance, and some love the idea of a lock-up-and-go setup giving them the opportunity to travel at the drop of a hat. COO of the Just Property Group, highlights some of the pros of estate living:

Added safety: Gated communities also aid safety measures for the neighbourhood. The body corporate can erect speed bumps and enforce lower-than-typical speeds as measures for residents’ safety, particularly children.

Higher property value: The gates and fences of an estate provide the perception of security, safety and privacy – and in affluent neighbourhoods, privacy means exclusivity and thus higher property

values. Adding weight to the argument is that an automatic gate sys-tem or private security access boosts the property value regardless of whether or not it actually impacts on crime in that area.

Cost sharing: There are many items some property owners might be unable to afford individually, but in pooling resources and opting for communal living they then become accessible to them.

Community: Estate living can foster a sense of togetherness, a feeling of unity and the unspoken understanding that neighbours will look out for each other.

Status: Everyone wants to feel proud of their home and many use it as a status symbol. A gated community can offer prestige akin to a private club where access privileges are required.

Modern touch: Gated communities may also offer buyers the oppor-tunity to purchase a more modern home than those found in estab-lished areas, simply because the homes found in those communities are newer than the freestanding ones in the neighbourhood.

Busyballers is a sports programme for children two and a half years and older and focuses on introducing them to the wonderful world of sport. Besides the obvious benefits of participating competently in various sporting activities, the Busyballers programme works on the development of many essential skills which enhance every aspect of a child’s life.

Our goal - The primary objective of Busyballers is to provide the necessary ball skills to ensure a lifetime of enjoyment whilst participating in sport. Our value statement focuses on: “Developing every aspect of a child’s life through sport”. Busyballers was started in 2000 as a physical developmental coaching programme focusing on the

physical and social well-being of children. The first class was held on the soccer fields at the Berea Park, in Morningside, with five children. There are now over 500 children who attend Busyballers as an extra mural activity in the Morningside, Glenwood, Durban North, North Coast and Upper Highway vicinities.

What your child will learn at Busyballers - Using positive teaching methods, creativity, specialised sporting equipment and exercises, we provide the children with the opportunity to develop the basic ball skills required to participate competently in a number of the popular ball sports that they will be exposed to later in life.

Busyballers is not only for talented mini stars or for children with coordination problems, but caters for all children of all ball skill levels.

Our approach to coaching - Our coaches use positive and creative techniques in a warm, unintimidating and caring environment where movement, tasks and competitive challenges are carefully selected according to each childs readiness and experience. Although the course is planned to ensure the overall progression of the children, Busyballers is lots of fun and the children are probably never aware that they are preparing for a lifetime of confident sport participation. Our specially trained coaches are highly motivated and thoroughly attentive to the needs, capabilities and progress of the children in their care. They are all talented young sports men and women, but they are also selected for their ability to communicate and interact

effectively with children. Each lesson includes:• Warm up exercises/obstacle courses• Ball skill development (using a variety of different balls together with

other specially sourced equipment)• A fun creative game or a team game/mini matchFOR A BETTER AND MORE VISUAL IDEA OF ALL THAT WE DO, YOU MAY FIND BUSYBALLERS ON THE FOLLOWING SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS:

Busyballers Holiday Clinics at DunkirkBusyballers holiday clinics are for children aged 3 – 10 years and provide children with lots of fun outdoor activities and games.

We have a jumping castle, obstacle courses, creative games and pop-ular ball sports to keep children active and entertained. The children will also get to partake in fun arts and crafts, play dough and puzzle building. In summer we have some fun with water bombs and slip n slides!

Examples of games include:• Wolfie, Wolfie• Froggie, Froggie• Bee Stings• Duck Hunt• Water Balloon Fight• Dodgeball• Trap the Monkey• Star Wars• Sack races and other fun races• Tug of War

And for the older children we play proper sports games like soccer, hock-ey, netball, volleyball, cricket, rugby and baseball.

Supervision and Safety - I will have coaches there to coach/entertain the children and I will be responsible for the overall supervision of the morning and especially keeping an eye on the younger children. All activities are done together in groups so the children will not be allowed to wonder off on their own.

The ratio of coaches to children will be 1:10. Parents are welcome to drop off and go, however those that prefer to join us on the mornings are more than welcome to stay and observe!

WHEN YOU HAVE AN OFFICE JOBHOW TO STAY HEALTHY

If you work in an office job and basically sit ALL day, I’m sure you know all too well how hard it can be to stay healthy. Between the long hours, the vending machine, uncomfort-able chairs and bright fluorescent lights, it can sometimes be a struggle to keep on track and feel like you are living a healthy and fit lifestyle. So here are some ways to stay healthy in an office job - no standing desk required!

Keep Healthy Snacks In Your Drawers - When it comes to the 3pm munch-ies, it can be super tempting to stick your hand in that communal cookie jar or sneakily buy something naughty from the vending machine. Not only can snacking on processed foods wreck havoc on your blood sug-ar levels, but they generally leave you craving more. So that one cook-ie can turn into five before we know it. Instead, try filling your drawers with healthy snacks. Some examples are zip-lock bags filled with nuts and seeds, cut up veggie sticks with hummus, different tea varieties and plain popcorn. This way when the snack monster attacks, you are equipped with the right food!

Up Your Water Intake - Just because you sit all day doesn’t mean your body doesn’t need to be properly hydrated. If you tend to feel sluggish towards the end of the day, this may be a sign of dehydration. Dehydra-tion can also cause headaches and fatigue, so make sure you have a full bottle of water on your desk and always refill it as soon as it gets empty!I like putting a straw in mine for easy drinking so I can still use my hands for

typing at the same time! Use Your Lunch Break To Go For a Quick Walk - Even if you only have a short lunch break, take 5-10 minutes of this to go for a quick stroll. This can be especially helpful if you have eaten a heavy lunch and are feeling a little sluggish. Walking can help to stimulate digestion, get your step count up for the day and also leave you feeling refreshed. And if you can get a little sunshine in, even better! If you don’t have time for a walk around the block, make the effort to at least walk up and down a few flights of stairs or walk around the office.

Move Every Hour - Whether you are super busy or don’t have time for a lunch break, the very least you can do is move at least once an hour. If you think about how much you sit everyday, this can seriously impact the amount of exercise we get in each week. Set an alarm on your phone or computer and make a conscious effort to move each hour. This can literally be something as simple as filling up your drink bottle, going to the toilet or doing a lap of the office.
