Garden City, NY: Winning his first

    Long Island Generations Bowlers

Tour (LIGBT) scratch title and the

$1,000 top prize was Dan Brezo of

Coram, NY. Earning his first handicap

trophy, and its $500 top prize, was

    Rob Vecchione of Massapequa Park,

    NY.

The scratch event was a four game

qualifier that was bowled on the PBA

    Chameleon Pattern. Dan Brezo was

the squad leader with an 899 series. To

advance to the finals it only took a 214

average, while the top senior, NormGinsberg Sr. of West Babylon, NY

    advanced with a 770 series (192 average.)

The finals saw Adam Chase, last tournaments cham-

pion, rolling through the first two rounds with a 286

    pletely dominated Adam

and started with the first 6 strikes on his way to a 256.

Adam earned $500 despite the fact he lost to Dan by 95

    pins!

The handicap event was lead by Aeyesha

Gomez of Corona, NY the qualifying

leader with a 733. To make the handicap

finals you had to shoot 679 with handicap

and bonus pins. Ironically, the eventual

champion, Rob Vecchione, the bowler that

rolled the 679 series to advance.

In the handicap shootout all three

bowlers had a chance to win the title going

into the tenth frame. James Walsh of Glen

Cove threw a spare and strike in the tenth

to force Rob to double to win the title. Rob

threw a crossover strike on his first ball

and buried the second shot to shoot a 262to win. Finishing second, with a 253 was

James Walsh ($300), and the qualifying

leader, Aeyesha, finished third with a 244 and took

    home $200.

Hall of Fame honors are the

    ultimate recognition in any

endeavor, the granting of that lit-

tle piece of forever that never dies.

    Randy Pedersen, Dale Eagle

    and Len Nicholson have been

    elected to the Professional

    Bowlers Association Hall---Class

of 2011---adding more class to an

    eternal bowling fraternity.

The PBA Hall was established in

1975 to honor the best of the bestin various categories. Nominees

must first meet or exceed basic

    qualifications in years of service

    and importance of accomplish-

    ment explained by just three

    words---above and beyond. Select

    committees of veteran media per-

    sons, industry officials and lead-

    ers and current Hall members

    make the decisions and successful

    candidates must receive rigid

    favorable percentages of ballots

    cast.

To even be considered for PBA

Hall tribute is a unique honor in

itself, because so many are consid-

ered and so few are chosen.Pedersen, 48, is the color com-

    mentator for pro tour telecasts

    and the Clermont, Fla. standout

topped a solid field of six in the

    Tour Performance classification.

    Others considered, champions of

    every major stat, were Bryan

    Goebel, Steve Hoskins, Doug

    Kent, Mike Scroggins and Danny

    Wiseman.

    Pedersen won 13 titles, includ-

ing the PBA National, was ranked

35th by those who selected the

    PBA's 50 all-time best, had 34 top

five finishes in 561 events, was in

the top 20 averages eight times

and top 20 in earnings six times. He gave nearly 30 years of his

life to his sport as a colorful per-

former who always makes time to

talk to bowling fans and fill them

    with stories and wit.

    Eagle, 64, ex Marine from

Frisco, Texas, is only the second

player elected in the Senior Tour

    classification, following John

    Handegard in 2009.

    "This is something I've been

waiting since I started bowling as

a pro 46 years ago and had that

    teenager's hope to become a

    great."

    Eagle, formerly Dale Glenn and

I forget what he billed himself

    before that, worked in various

phases to support himself on tour

when things were not going well.

When he changed his name to

Eagle he had the most ornate

    eagle ever embroidered on a

    bowling shirt artistically done on

his back, and when he was intro-

duced he let out an eagle screech

    yet to be matched.

Eagle has won 11 Senior titles,

four of them majors, has been

    named Senior Rookie and Senior

Player of the Year. He has won

    three regular tour titles, 10

    regional pro events and finished

in the top five in 40 senior tourna-

ments. He beat out three othersenior stars who are rated as sure

    electees in the future, Pete

    Couture, Bob Glass and Gene

    Stus.

Nicholson, 70, was an all around

star athlete in his high school

days, but when it came to a pro-

fession he devoted his career to

the science of bowling lane main-

tenance and became one of the

    foremost world experts. He devel-

oped programs that were used by

the PBA as far back as 1971 and

he still calls the shots for major

events as he did for the PHA for

    decades.

Just remember, there's only onewinner in any tournament, and in

most only one of three earn a cash

    prize, and so the convenient

excuse is always the lane man, the

hardy soul who spends much of

    the night manicuring the lanes

with high tech machines, oils and

    other materials that can never

    guarantee fairness to all partici-

    pants.

    Nicholson earned the hard way

to win respect of almost all

bowlers with his constant study of

the sport, his articles on scorings

issues and products used, some of

which he invented and his widely

listened to radio show covering allphases of bowling.

    "I took everything about lane

    conditioning as a serious venture

and area of study, but I never

dreamed it could lead to the Hall

of Fame, the first one to be hon-

    ored for lane maintenance." said

    Nicholson.

    Other finalists in the

    Meritorious Service group were

    Chris Peters and Denny

    Schreiner.

    The three new Hall members

will be inducted officially at the

Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas fol-

lowing the Jan. 22, 2011 conclu-

sion of the PBA Tournament of

    Champions over ABC-TV sports.

    They have brought great pride

to the sport, as have the others

    considered and those previously

    enshrined.

There is so much going on in Morris county now! There have been

quite a few Tricks and Treats and here they are.

Mike Potoski, Sparta, rolled his tenth 300 and eighth 800 series, in the

Wednesday Night Mixed League at Hanover Lanes. The trick was that he

needed to amp it up in his third game to get an 800, and finished with five

strikes for an 806. He used (as he laughed) a Faball Blue Pearl Hammer,

which is an older model ball and which obviously worked for him. It was

fitted by Ken Yokobosky of Pro Image (he drills all of my equipment).

He mused that in the calendar year 2010 he shot four 800s and two 300s.

He averages around 220-225 in his leagues and dedicated his latest

accomplishment to his nephew, Nico Provenzano. Now thats a treat!

Last year Mike won his division in the Elite Tournament and this year he

finished second, losing to eventual winner Brent Tishuk, 228-206.
