LISD NewsletterTRANSCRIPT
LISD celebrated Thanksgiving with its annual Holiday Feast in our cafeterias as parents joined their kids for a delicious meal. Turkey, Ham and all of the rest of the
traditional trimmings were prepared and served by our amazing kitchen staff with some special servers helping
out. The cafeterias were abuzz as a wonderful time was had by all. A special thanks goes out to the
cafeteria crew, janitorial and maintenance staff and all else who helped make this a memorable day.

MY PLATE
Mrs. Duron’s Family and Community Service Class is teaching pre-k
students about nutrition! The first lesson discussed My Plate, which
replaced the food pyramid. The students came over to the high school
class, and Nikki read I Will Never, Not Ever Eat a Tomato. This book
encourages children to try new foods, especially healthy foods. Then
the pre-k students colored their My Plate placemat and made healthy
trail mix baggies. It was a great success. The students learned a lot and
enjoyed eating their healthy snacks. Ms. Silvin, Ms. Smith, and Ms.
Zuvia’s classes will return each month to learn more about eating
healthy.

school in Havelock NC. I will be completing my bachelor’s degree in Early
Childhood Education (birth-kindergarten) at the end of this month. I have a 3 yr
old daughter, named Avery. I am so grateful to be a part of an awesome school. I
look forward to an exciting school year.

Stacey Cyberpatriot Team
The very first Stacey Cyberpatriot team will compete in Round 1 competition this weekend against over 1200 teams from throughout the US. Cyberpatriot is a national cyber defense
competition created by the Air Force Association to inspire high school students toward careers in cyber security or other STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) disciplines. This is the fifth
year of the competition. The team members include Drew Poirier, Sam Otto, Shelby Coppinger, Ryan Berry, and David
Lipsey. The alternate team is Davis Merica, Cody Rivas, Abi Arndt, Sinead Bolton, and Adam Miller. Mr. Keller is the team’s coach. They are mentored by a group of cyber experts from throughout the USAF that volunteered their time over the summer, various Saturdays and Tuesdays during lunch
and learning lab to demonstrate real-world scenarios and strategies. “I joined the Cyberpatriot team because I wanted to learn more about computers. It is fun!” said
Stacey Junior Sinead Bolton. Teams that advance will compete in Round 2 during the weekend of December 7th. The first rounds
are held on the campuses of the respective schools. The national finals will be in Maryland during March.

Autumn Days are Here The fourth grade class under the direction Of Ms. Cara Coffey, Lackland Elementarys awesome music
teacher, held a rousing perfomance in the elementary cafeteria last night. The stage was decorated in a western patriotic theme as the choir belted out classics such as “Here Comes The Band”, “Yankee
Doodle” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag”. Parents joined in singing “America the Beautiful” as the show ended with a burst of energy. All who attended were delighted. Congratulations 4th grade.

TEDDY BEAR DRIVE Written by Breana Thompson
During October, the FCCLA members conducted a teddy bear drive. Stacey High
School students donated a total of 248 stuffed animals. The sophomore class won the
competition, bringing in 97 bears which earned them an ice cream party. FCCLA will
donate the animals to the Fischer House. The children staying at the Fischer house
will then be able to enjoy the company of a new “furry friend.”
