From Predicament to Living Hope – Part 3

If we have no guarantee or proof that we will ever get out of the predicament we’re in, then what do we have and what hope is there for us? What we do have is a promise, a promise from God Himself. Since the beginning of history there have always been people who have yearned and longed for resolution, for deliverance from the predicament. And God spoke to them through the Prophets. And what He said to them was, “yes, there is resolution. I will be your God and you will be my people. I promise you.” And even though the people failed, and even though they turned their backs on God, God never gave up. He revealed Himself to us in His Son Jesus Christ to seal the deal. Yes, there is resolution, yes there is deliverance. I promise you. I give you My Son. All that you long for, all that the human heart yearns for is to be found in Him. All we have is that promise from God. We have that story, that account given to us in the Holy Scriptures and in the history of the Church and its teachings. It’s a story that thousands have given their very lives to uphold and preserve and pass along to others. What we have is Hope. Not in the sense of wishfulness. I Peter 1:3 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. By His great mercy we have been born anew to a Living Hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”. A living hope means that as Christians we live our lives with the very real expectation that the promise God gave us is true. We will be delivered from our sins, and from death. Because Christ first loved us and died for us, we will meet Him and we will know eternal life with Him. To be human may indeed mean living in a perpetual predicament. To be Christian is to live with expectation and Hope. Jesus gets us out of our predicament. He means everything to us. And He is coming. We now live in terms of preparation, preparation of meeting our Lord, of fitting ourselves for the life of the world to come. We make Christ the center of our world and our lives. All else is secondary. Living into the hope of resurrection, preparing ourselves to receive our Lord Jesus Christ and live with Him forever in heaven, to look forward to His arrival, our once yearning hearts, now filled with joyous expectation: that is what the Season of Advent is all about. Amen. BlessingsBlessingsBlessingsBlessings In Jesus,In Jesus,In Jesus,In Jesus, Fr. DavidFr. DavidFr. DavidFr. David

¡Bendiciones!¡Bendiciones!¡Bendiciones!¡Bendiciones! En JesúsEn JesúsEn JesúsEn Jesús Padre DavidPadre DavidPadre DavidPadre David

The Daughters of Notre Dame are currently accepting Christmas Memorial’s. A special Memorial Mass will be said on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the 9:15 a.m. Mass; names will be published in the weekly bulletin. Envelopes for donations are located in the back of the church in the Narthex. Donations my be placed in the collection basket or dropped off at the Pastoral Center. Deadline for intentions is Sunday, December 22, 2019.

Religious give thanks. “Thank you” hardly seems adequate to convey what it means to us,” says a Catholic sister of the financial assistance her community received from the Retirement Fund for Religious. Prayer-filled thanks for your donation to last week’s second collection.

Attention all past choir members, if you have a blue “Gather” song book that you are no longer using, could you please donate it the current choir group which are in need of books. Books may be dropped off at the Pastoral Center. Thanks to all!

BooksToBorrow from the Notre Dame Parish Library are available in the narthex of the church, near the bell tower door. During this Advent and Christmas season, the Notre Dame Library would like to provide you with a wonderful selection of books that hopefully will make this Advent and Christmas more fulfilling as we await the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Most of us are racing around by concentrating on “material things”, decorating the house, buying Christmas gifts, making cookies, and giving our children gifts they want in the hope of making this Christmas the “best they’ve ever had.” We need to ask ourselves whether we have left any room for Christ in our busy schedule to have time for: prayer, adoration of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, mass, confession, or even to say the rosary? We need to remember that our one main goal in this earthly life is to live spirit filled lives so we can get ourselves to Heaven. We know that one way to Jesus is through Mary. God engaged her so intimately in the mystery of her Son’s incarnation and of our redemption that we must always gaze on her in the light of divine revelation. In God’s sight Mary can only be that one person in salvation history uniquely called to be the mother of the Father’s only begotten Son, and also uniquely redeemed by the forseen merits of her Son. The liturgical year begins with Advent, the time of waiting for the savior to be born to a humble young Jewish girl. During this season we celebrate the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary on December 8 and on December 12 the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Then comes Christmas with the mystery of the Nativity of the Lord, January 1 the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, December 29 the feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph and January 5 the Epiphany of the Lord. We at the Notre Dame Parish Library wish for you and your family a blessed and Merry Christmas.
