Saturday was ahappy day for AnnisDale, who celebratedher 90th birthday at thefellowship hall ofHurricane Baptist Church with 40-plus gifts. There was a nice bigbirthday cake for Annis to sharewith her guests along with somemighty good finger foods preparedby family and friends. Annisreceived some gifts and cards butdid not open until she got home.

She has two brothers who camefrom Ohio along with three nieces

from Ohio. She had asister come fromBirmingham, Ala.,and a brother, atlast, from Wise.Annis and her latehusband had onlyone child, Wayne,who was there withwife Linda and their

two children, Angela, her husband,and her three children and alsoAngela’s brother, Anthony, wasthere. Annis has three grandchil-dren.

Annis was surprised but had tobe told on Friday due to out-of-townfamily who were coming to stay.Annis is in good health and came onSunday to drop her birthday coin in

the antique birthday bank at thechurch.

Veta Stapleton dropped coins intothe church birthday bank. Theyshare the same birthday. Annis cel-ebrated her day on Saturday butVeta celebrated another day with acouple of her sisters and her niece,Sherry, who also shares her samebirthday. This group of sisters andniece all had dinner together at oneof the restaurants in Norton and hada great time together. We wish allthe ladies many more marvelousbirthdays with good health, friendsand family.

New Forward Wise County class formingApplications are now being

accepted for the 2017 class ofForward Wise County, a leadershipdevelopment program sponsored bythe Wise County/City of NortonChamber of Commerce. ForwardWise County’s mission is to identifyand develop local leaders fromamong a diverse group of individu-als in business, industry, education,and civic groups who share a com-mitment to positive change in WiseCounty.

Orientation will be held Feb. 27.There will be 11 weekly sessionswith one Saturday field trip includ-ed. A mandatory one-day retreat willbe held Saturday, March 4. Classeswill begin March 6 and meet each

Monday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for 11weeks. Forward Wise County willconclude with a graduation lunch-eon on May 25.

Session topics will include workstyle assessment, leadership skills,local government, economic devel-opment, legislative issues, WiseCounty’s natural resources, commu-nity trusteeship, public relations,education, and much more.

The cost of the program is $250

which includes the retreat, all mate-rials, meals and refreshments, aplaque, and the graduation lunch-eon. In many instances, employersare willing to pay the cost of tuition.

The 2017 class of Forward WiseCounty will be limited to 20 partici-pants. Applicants must be at least 21years of age. Preference will begiven to residents of Wise Countyand the city of Norton. Applicationsmay be picked up at the Wise CountyChamber of Commerce office at 765Park Avenue in Norton or on ourWeb site: wisecountychamber.org.Completed applications must bereturned to the Chamber by Feb. 7.
