Last time we went to print in the newsletter we were talking about the excitement of a new season. Well time has passed quickly and over the coming weeks we will pass through the half way point of the season with all three teams poised to make a determined effort to be part of the final series in September.

The midpoint of the season is an ideal time for the Club, Coaches and players to review performance to date and plan for the remainder of the season. Fortunately we can all look forward optimistically towards the season’s end with all teams showing positive signs and improving performances over recent weeks.

The Intrust Super Cup is currently well placed in 5th position with their best performance so far to convincingly defeat one of the competition front runners, the Northern Pride.

New coach Craig Hodges is doing a great job leading the way and the team is really starting to respond. With 5 of our last 7 home games at home (Bishop Park) things are building nicely for a strong finish and a place in the finals.

The Fogs Cup team currently is well placed in 2ND position and if not too depleted due to injuries within the club, should also make the play offs.

The Colts team has been boosted by some of the Club’s best juniors from the Mal Meninga (U18) squad and should give the Colts competition a real shake after taking the title in 2011. The team is currently in 3RD position but still has its best football ahead.

We have just finished our Cyril Connell (U16’s) & Mal Meninga (U18’s) Cup Competitions with another successful season. The competition is played State wide with sixteen teams competing in each age group. The competition started in 2009 with Norths Devils being crowned State Champions in Cyril Connell Cup 2009 & 2010 and the Mal Meninga Cup 2009 & 2011 and Runner Up in 2010.

The Mal Meninga Cup side again made the State Finals where they had to travel to and from Townsville in the one day. The boys put in a courageous effort to be narrowly defeated by eventual Queensland Champions Townsville 34 to 23.

The Cyril Connell Cup side improved as the competition progressed to miss the finals by one place finishing third in the Southern Queensland Pool of the competition. The boy’s improvement was a pleasing sign with the future looking strong at Norths Devils.
