A Note from the PTA President
April 2017 Edition
Hello!
We have done so much this year, it’s hard to think it’s already coming to an end. It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve all of you during this time, and as things come to a close, I’m starting to reflect on all the good we’ve had a hand in this year. It’s amazing to think that a group of people coming together can accomplish a huge budget and contribute many things both tangible and intangible to both students and teachers.
I am very proud to say that we have met our budget needs to fund a shade cover! This has been our goal for the last two years, and while our budget amendments are still going through our general membership approval process, we have done our part to meet and exceed our budget expectations. We should all give ourselves a pat on the back for that, because it took every single one of us having a part in this journey. So, THANK YOU!
We’ve got more fun stuff coming before the year ends, so be on the look out!

This organization encourages fathers and father figures to volunteer for a day in their student’s school. Fathers gain insight into their student’s education, help the school in volunteer tasks, and provide a positive male role model for the community.

PTA Honorary Life Membership Award
Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination for the PTA Honorary Life Membership Award! Congratulations to Melissa Weyer, Eric Plyer, Christie Fine, Katie Clark, Bryn Curtis, and Camily Teed for being nominated for this award. On March 24, Katie Clark was announced as the winner. Congrats Katie! All of the nominees are passionate about what they do each day. Thank you for all you do at Norris!

Come visit DX3 Athlete, Tiger Rock Martial Arts, Texas Cricket Academy, Frisco Youth Rugby, the Collin County Fun Bus and much more! Norris Clean It & Green It DayApril 21: Wear Green & Walk to School!
Then, join us on Saturday, April 22 9:00-10am to Clean Up Norris! To reward our volunteers' hard work, the City of Frisco and IKEA will throw the volunteers a party afterwards at IKEA 11 am-12pm! This family-friendly event offers food, face painting, bounce houses, games, and more!

Diverse Abilities DayDiverse Abilities Day is coming up on Thursday, April 20. During school hours, students will have the opportunity to explore many interactive stations including ADHD, Disability Awareness, Autism, Speech Impairment, Dyslexia, Hearing Impairment, and Limb Differences. Norris Spring Carnival!Our 1st Norris Carnival was a huge success! Thank you to our amazing teachers, staff, students, parents, volunteers, and vendors for your commitment in making our carnival such a fantastic event! Happiness Advantage ChallengeBeginning April 3, Frisco ISD is challenging everyone in the community to take part in the Happiness Advantage Challenge. The hope is that schools, businesses, faith-based organizations, and individuals across the city will participate. Imagine the amount of positivity that will be moving through our city during this month!
How will The Happiness Advantage Challenge look at Norris? We will focus our attention on showing gratitude and journaling.
Gratitude: We will have paper, pencils and a Gratitude Basket available in the cafe for our students and staff. They may write their thankful thoughts on a slip of paper and put them in the Gratitude Basket. Teachers will share these gratitude moments during lunch to help brighten everyone’s day.
Journaling: Specials Teachers are introducing personal journaling to our students during character lab. This is used to relieve stress, focus on positivity, and create feelings of happiness. Our younger students will have a combination of journaling and picture drawing.
Embrace The Happiness Advantage Challenge, seek gratitude throughout your day, journal about positive moments, and see where it leads you!

Souper Bowl LunchWhile celebrating the 100th day of school, teachers and staff enjoyed a delicious soup and salad lunch on February 3! There was a wonderful spread of soups, salads, fruits, and desserts for our hardworking staff to enjoy!
