On Thursday October 9th, 2014 North Miami Beach Senior High School’s Girls’ Volleyball Team and GEMS hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness walk in hopes of bringing awareness of Breast Cancer and all of the numerous ways of attempting to find a cure.

The walk started at 10:25 and was held for the duration of first lunch. It took place around the softball/football field within the perimeter of the gates. Three tables were placed around the field, the first one was the greeting table, intended to greet all of the participants. The second table was situated around the end of the walk, and the ribbons were given at this table. The last table housed Ms. Setuain (a breast cancer survivor) who passed out informational pamphlets/packets.

Over 200 students, as well as faculty/staff members enlisted in the walk. When participants showed up to the walk, they were greeted by a table where they picked up a slip of paper that stated, “I pledge to walk for …” The purpose of that slip of paper was for the participant to write who they were walking in honor of. The amount of support received was extraordinary.

Once the walk concluded and the members reached the end, they received a pink ribbon pin to have as a souvenir of the walk and in honor of who/what they were walking

for. They also were asked to tie the pledge they received on the school fence. All of the pledges were placed in the shape of a ribbon. The pledges remained on the fence for the duration of the month of October.

The walk was a success, due to the amount of support and recognition it received. The purpose of the walk was to bring awareness and shed light on a topic that is usually overlooked. It was intended to memorialize all of the women and men who have had breast cancer, or any type of cancer, and to support the people who currently have cancer. Breast cancer is a topic that should be understood and talked about within different social groups. Homecoming in the Gym - Shocking StudentsBy Kemner Reynaga

Homecoming is an annual event. It consists of homecoming week, which is followed by the grand homecoming dance. Traditionally, the homecoming dance is held at a hotel or banquet hall. Here, at North Miami Beach Senior High School, it’s almost always been held at a hotel. This year, that changed. The school decided to hold the dance inside the gymnasium due to the fact that holding it in a hotel is quite expensive. Tickets would be around $65 for a hotel, but only $25 if the dance were held in the gymnasium.

Most students were shocked at the decision for homecoming to be held in the gym. Many thought that the dance would be boring, lame, or not as good as previous years. A handful of students even refused to go. However, although many students were against homecoming being held in the gym, many students were not affected by it. Daijah Way, a ninth-grader enrolled in the iPrep program, says, “I was surprised with the outcome of homecoming, seeing as it was held in the gym and all. It looked as if it was an actual hotel or banquet hall instead of a gymnasium. It was nicely decorated and almost unrecognizable.”

Although the location of homecoming was a bit of a downgrade, everything else was not. The food, music, decorations, and everything else that played a role in making homecoming such a fun event was just as good or even better than previous years.

Students seemed to have a blast and the event was a hit on social media. Pictures, tweets, texts, and more were spread about the event. Almost everyone who didn’t go to homecoming knew about what went on, and some even regretted not purchasing a ticket. Overall, students who attended the dance can agree that the event was a success. Homecoming 2014 was unforgettable and unbeatable for many students who attended.

On Thursday, November 13, 2014, The Academy of Finance students were buzzing with excitement. They would be attending Miami Dade College’s annual Mad City Money event. All aspiring entrepreneurial freshmen and sophomores attend this event annually.

Nicknamed the “game of life,” Mad City Money encompasses the improbability of life. Each student receives a random slip of paper that details what their life is like for this event— from their profession, to the annual salary they receive, to their spouses and the number of children they have. Our North Miami Beach Senior High Seniors had the privilege of managing the booths that participants from other schools visited.

It was a bittersweet day, as this would be our senior’s last year participating in the event. “I love Mad City Money,”

senior Peachra Jackson gushed. “I remember being a freshman and attending it; and here I am on the other end of the booth for the last time.” This experience was one of the best ones. Our fellow Chargers walked away with several experiences that will enable them to make better financial decisions in the future. “I loved seeing the looks on their faces at the different situations that the students were handed,” Junior Jorell Blair stated. “I loved seeing the looks on students’ faces.”

The goal of Mad City Money is to educate young people on how to make the right financial decisions. This goal was successfully reached. Many of our very own young

Chargers enjoyed the experience and walked away with the knowledge of how to better manage their

money, no matter what the circumstances.

NMB is Giving Back On Thanksgiving By Gabrielle Brown

Even though for this Thanksgiving the feeding of the homeless was banned here in Miami, North Miami Beach Senior stuck to tradition and gave on this Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving as a holiday is a very important one; it has been dedicated to giving thanks for the many blessings of harvest and the upcoming year. Today, the traditions may have changed in some ways, but the idea of enjoying time with family and gathering and giving still stands.

At North Miami Beach Senior, it was not just an event for “giving to the poor” it was an event to represent and show that people really do care and that the people who aren’t acknowledged regularly are important. This year it was an even more wide scale event than in the past, thanks to the donations from Lavin’s Law Group, Staley Krantenstein and Nova Southeastern University, Farm Share, Ms. Rosalie Schlaen of Morgan Stanley, North Miami Beach Senior High’s Baseball team, Paul Blakes of Costco, Wal-Mart, Authentic Church Miami’s Chris Reyes and Chris Colona of the Greater North Miami Chamber of Commerce. With donations a variety of foods, vegetables, juices, turkeys, and this year chickens, were given out to different families and staff members who were more than grateful.

The staff members and families came to the school to pick up the produce and different baskets, which were handed out. They were very happy and the spirit of Thanksgiving could be felt. It was something to be seen, and many lives were impacted.

The war started when president Obama planned an attack towards ISIS unexpectedly. Isis recently started horrifying destructions in areas such as Iraq and Syria. According to defense secretary, Chuck Hagel, ISIS is one of the most, “sophisticated and well funded groups ever seen.” This organization has experienced military officers that could perform many military actions. Over the years the organization has been spreading throughout the world. The organization has been studying our U.S military actions through recent wars with other countries. ISIS plans on attacking our military in the region or on our territory. They’re gaining recruiters by forcing the civilians against their will. They’ve threatened to create terrorist attacks on British and European land. There have been many occasions where ISIS terrorists would bury women and children alive, as well as the horrifying televized beheadings of innocent journalists.

This organization plans on gaining new nation alliances in the war, they’ve even mentioned making new enemies as well. ISIS believes

that it’s easy to predict their enemies’ moves. They know that the American Nation can be manipulated; they’ll have a better understanding of their citizen’s rights.

Our President Obama hasn’t brought back our military troops from Iraq yet. He plans on bringing them back in a couple of years. President Obama wants to bring our troops back home safely, but he can’t immediately because he has to think of civilians in the area as well. That doesn’t mean he’s backing out from the war. He has future plans for the ISIS organization; he won’t rest in peace until the organization is destroyed.

Obama promised to stop the organization until they can no longer continue with the war. To put an end to the war, the white house is planning Air Force strikes against ISIS. The U.S will likely be supported by Australia’s government. Obama doesn’t plan for ground battles. ISIS’ military has rapidly increased. Obama needs to keep our men safe. This war would probably go on for a while.

NMB College Fair a Complete Success! By Rudy Lafrance On October 13, 2014, North Miami Beach Senior High School had a College Fair in the gymnasium! People from many different types of colleges came to NMB. Why? Just to talk to us high school students about their college, what they do, and the benefits they may have to offer upcoming students. This college fair gave students lots of information. What did they think of this year’s college fair?

This is what 12th grader, Annette Raquel, had to say about the college fair, “I feel like it’s an excellent opportunity for students to explore the different colleges and see which ones interest them. It allows them to see what colleges they would like to apply to, or go to.” A college fair gives students an insight of what various colleges do, why they do it, what majors they offer, etc. College fairs are meant to help you with your future?

Speaking of which, this is what North Miami Beach Senior High’s own, Roger Mabe (Advanced Placement World History teacher), had to say about the college fair, “The college fair is a great opportunity for students interested in post graduation studies to learn of facilities, programs, and offerings at various colleges and universities. NMB SHS continues to attract a large number of colleges, which is due to the efforts and diligence of our excellent counselors and college preparatory staff. Lastly, this is what Sebastian Singh, Biology and Anatomy Teacher, had to say about the college fair, “I think the college fair is not only a good opportunity for our students

to see displays from different schools, but also to speak to the representatives. Unfortunately, here at NMB we do not do college tours and this was a way to bring the colleges to us instead of us going to them.”

The college fair was a huge success, and we can’t wait for next year’s college fair! Until then, try and find the college that is the perfect fit for you!

What are Student Loans? Which one would you prefer, Scholarships or Student Loans? Student Loans are designed to help students pay for university tuition, books, and living expenses. They may differ from other types of loans in that the interest rate may be substantially lower and repayment schedule may be deferred while the student is still in school. There are many different types of Student Loans.

Some students prefer to choose student loans rather than scholarships because the money comes directly to you, and then you can choose how to spend it. In the immediate sense, this might be a good thing if you've got your tuition covered but need to pay book fees or room-and-board, or even purchase several business suits for an internship, but with that freedom comes temptation, you've paid your tuition and have some leftover, do you want to save it for living expenses or the next semester's tuition or do you want to buy that amazing new laptop you've had your eye on? All in all, loans are disputed into different ways, direct Subsidized loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans. Direct Subsidized Loans have slightly better terms to help out students with financial needs, while Direct Unsubsidized Loans do not.

It is very common for people to look at scholarships as a lucky way to pay less for college. Scholarships do much more than lowering the price though. They make

your resume stand out. Winning a scholarship is a big deal. Most colleges look for students who will be a great addition to the school. Your scholarship would say it all.

Scholarships are different from loans. Scholarships are more of an award, whereas a loan is more of a debt. With a loan, you have to pay it all back eventually. You can get into a lot of trouble for not paying back your loan. Scholarships are basically free money. You earn scholarships for many other reasons besides financial need. You can get a scholarship for your talent or just because your academic records were just so impressive. All in all loans aren’t worth the trouble to pay it all back, scholarships save your time and money. ¬

Depression Hits High School StudentsBy Odeline Utile

Depression often occurs during teenage years, which is a time of personal changes. It usually begins during freshman year in high school. This is because of the changes in where you go to school, your friends, your after school activities, as well as your relationship with your family members, or your future plans. Many people don’t get help because they think depression symptoms are just part of the common stress of school or being a teen. Depression is way more then that. Depression is a common but serious mental illness typically marked by sad or anxious feelings. If depression is not treated it can last for a really long time.

There are many different types of depression. According to The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the most common types of depressive disorders are major depressive disorder, dysthymic disorder, and minor depression. Theses disorders do not allow you to do your everyday activities like study, sleep, or eat but some are more severe than others. If you are depressed you may feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, worthless, helpless, irritable. You many also experience loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy, lack of energy, problems concentrating, loss of appetite or eating too much, thought of suicide or suicide attempts and problems falling asleep.

Depression is not caused by just one thing; there are several different factors. Some people carry genes that increase their risk of depression. The environment you are in can play a role. Any stressful situation can set of depression and high school students encounter a number of stressful situations. Such as getting ready for college, getting all graduation credits, getting community service hours, sports, homework given, grade point average and grades. Taking antidepressants and doing psychotherapy

can treat depression. You can also help yourself feel better by giving the treatment a chance, do physical activities, do activities that you use to like, break tasks up and do what you can, spend time with friends and family, and just think positively. If you know someone who is depressed you can help by offering emotional support, talking to him or her, and never make him or her feel worse than they already do. If you are depressed or know someone who is depressed just be positive and know that things will get better.

Ms Krantz, Mr. Ridore, Ms Armand, and Ms Shore, offer resources available through student services for those who may be encountering just such a situation. Also, Ms Lindsay, our Trust Counselor, may be an excellent resource for you, as well as our school psychologyst, Mr. Finklestein, or Ms Prophete, our social worker, Just, please find someone you trust and let them know what you’re going through. Help is close by.

Batman and Superman are both part of the DC Nation and are both leaders of the Justice League (well, Superman specifically). They have both fought alongside each other on comics and on TV shows; it seems as if they make the perfect team themselves! However, what’ll happen if they were to see each other in real life? Will it really be “and” or (like the title suggests), “versus?” People are anxious to know more info on the upcoming movie, but all they can do is calm down and stay patient…

In the meantime, this is what Amelio Joseph, 16, had to say about the upcoming movie, “The upcoming movie is going to be awesome. To be honest though, I like Batman more than Superman, so if it Batman and Superman were to fight each other, I hope Batman wins.” Some fans might not feel the same way but everybody has their own opinion. It’s also been rumored that even Wonder Woman might make an appearance in the movie… for all you men/boys out there, that’s probably something you wouldn’t want to miss right? Speaking of wonder, people are wondering…what will REALLY happen in the movie? Rumors are stating that Batman and Superman will be enemies at first, but will then come to their senses and fight against what’s really going on! Other rumors are stating that Batman and Superman are just going to keep fighting till the end. This really is a movie that’ll keep people guessing and guessing and guessing until it comes out and finally has a chance to see if they’re right or wrong.

While some people are really excited for the upcoming movie, not everybody is thrilled about it; here’s what Michael Pressman, 11th grader, 16, had to say about the movie coming up, “It’s Superman, he will destroy Batman, it’s not even a fair fight. Now, if you want to do a Goku vs. Superman movie, then you have a movie! It’s okay to hate because at the end of the day, haters are your motivators! But who knows,

maybe they might do a Goku vs. Superman movie, that way people can talk about whether the Kamehameha technique is better than heat vision, or if Goku’s “Spirit Bomb” is more powerful than Superman’s “superhuman strength.” In a nutshell, the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie should be a really big hit and will leave a lot of fans and critics talking!

“Look at that in the air! It’s a bird, it’s a plane? No! It’s Superman…or Batman?” The Man of Steel was a blockbuster hit. It has made about $290 million dollars since its release in 2013. Many people where asking for a sequel. Well, now there is one featuring the Man of Steel himself and Batman. Yes, no need

for eye checks, Batman is in this movie. Many fans of the Man of Steel movie, the Justice League and DC Nation have been waiting for a movie featuring one of the many superheroes, for example, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, maybe even a Teen Titans movie.

The movie is to be released on March 25th, 2016 in the United States and other countries. The movie will feature the Man of Steel himself, Henry Cavill. Ben Affleck will play Batman in the film. Since Marvel seems to be at the top of its game with movies like the Avengers that did really well in the box office, the purpose of this movie is to slowly build the creation of the Justice League, thus resulting in a series of movies that will get DC movies back on track.

In the movie, Batman and Superman are rivals. In Metropolis, the people get attacked by Krypton. Batman thinks that Superman is the reason why they got attacked. So, as a superhero, he probably wants to solve and protect the civilians and make sure no more people get hurt or killed. The movie is expected to be a really big hit and boost up DC nation once again so it doesn’t get swept underneath the rug and gets forgotten. Well, here’s a spoiler alert. Wonder Woman is said to appear in the movie and help out Batman and Superman in the final battle against a villain. The villain is Lex Luther and will played by Jesse Eisenberg. You may know him from the Lonely Island, the band that’s like a parody.

“Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” is going to be directed by Zack Snyder alongside the writers David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio. The buzz about this movie is very high so there’s more to come up on the new movie.

Do you have school pride? School pride is considered very important when it comes to supporting your school. When you have school pride, you cheer on your school and you are proud to say that I attend North Miami Beach Senior High School. Having school pride is always encouraged at schools. Why is it so important that students have school pride? How does it affect the school?

Some students come to school, go to their classes, and at 2:20 p.m. go home. They don’t get involved around the school and don’t show any type of school pride. Is this necessarily a bad thing? No, but showing school pride makes the school a more exciting and positive place to be in. There are many different ways to show that you have school pride.

One way of showing school pride is by attending the many sports competitions that North Miami Beach Senior High School participates in. North Miami Beach Senior High School has various sport teams. The different sports include swimming, tennis, volleyball, soccer, football, basketball, etc. When you come out and support at a sports event, you encourage the players to do their best. They feel the appreciation that we have for them playing for our school.

Another way of showing school pride is by wearing NMB promoted shirts. Examples could be club shirts, sports shirts, and the I Love NMB shirts. They help to show

people that you support your school and that you are involved in activities at your school. The I Love NMB shirts are being sold in the drama room for $10.

There are many different clubs in the school. There are clubs like GEMS (Girls Educated & Motivated for Success and NHS (National Honors Society) that does a lot of activities that show school pride and you are also rewarded for that. Those clubs give community service hours for attending sport competitions. This also helps you get the community service hours you need to graduate. You can also decided to join other clubs based on your personal interests. Some clubs around the school include SHAPE, KEY club, bible club, speech and debate, chess club, and Women of Tomorrow.

It is important to show school pride because it makes the school a more supportive and pleasant place to be. It affects the school in a good way. You can start by joining a club you like and being more involved around the school. You can learn to participate in different activities to help improve North Miami Beach Senior High School. You can also attend a game or two and bring some school spirit with you. As chargers, we are supposed to be united. Our goal is to reach success but we can’t do that alone. We all have to give our best and work together.

Mr. Milliken: Who Is He Really?By Nedgine Joseph and Crystal Cuevas

Everybody knows or everyone should know that Mr. Milliken is our principal but do we know what he did before becoming our principal?

Before taking the duty of becoming the principal, Mr. Randy A. Milliken had been working in North Miami Beach Sr. High as a teacher and also as Assistant Principal for 25 fabulous years. He was promoted as principal in 2013.

This year has been Mr. Milliken’s third year as principal at North Miami Beach Senior High. With Mr. Milliken being our principal, we have seen beautiful changes. The school is no longer “wear whatever you want” but it is now a mandatory uniform school. Now we can’t see children wearing inappropriate attire to school, so thank Mr. Milliken for that.

As I was interviewing Mr. Milliken, I asked him how it felt to be a principal and he replied with a response that caught my attention. Being a principal is a great honor, but it is an honor that comes with many challenges. One of the challenges that Mr. Milliken admits to facing is the unknown. Mr. Milliken said, “There are many things that you think you know, until you step into this office and realize that you didn’t know.” To be a principal you have to be adaptable because you never know what you are going to do that day. It can go from a student crisis to a physical issue with the facility to teacher/student needs, to clubs and activities.

One of the things Mr. Milliken enjoys doing is spending time with the students, even if it is just a simple greeting in the hall. He enjoys hearing about the students’ successes, their struggles, what they overcame, or any problem that may come into their lives. When he visits the classrooms he likes to see what they are doing and makes sure that students are behaving. Sometimes he makes small talk with the teachers or students.

Mr. Milliken also has to manage his leadership team which consists of our Vice-Principal, Ms. Montesino, and our Assistant Principals, Ms. Challenger, Mr. Ridore, and Dr. Volcy. Also, part of the leadership team are Activities Director, Ms. Guerrier, Athletic Director, Ms. Mcleod, and Ms. Krantz, in Student Services.

Mr. Milliken is someone who deeply cares about each and every single one of us, and that is one of the great qualities a principal can have. “I enjoy seeing the growth in kids. I like watching them come in as ninth graders and go to college and do things they never thought possible,” said Mr. Milliken. At the end of each day, Mr. Milliken’s major concern is making sure that he did what was best for each student.

Mr. Milliken stated “a great way for us as high school students to enjoy high school and stand out in college applications is to get involved in a club, sport, or activity.” To ensure that NMB continues to grow Mr. Milliken plans to offer more dual enrollment courses on campus. During this interview Mr. Milliken stated, “ A long term goal would be to progressively build this school to where we are looked at as one of the top schools in Dade County academically, athletically, and in the number of activities.”

Mr. Milliken is truly a dedicated, motivated, loyal person to the school and as well as us. Knowing that this is Mr. Milliken’s 27th year working in NMB truly makes me feel like he is very dedicated to us and will try his best to help us succeed,

Our Beloved PrincipalRandy Miliken

What is softball? It is a team sport that requires not only physical skill but also mental skill. AT NMB, the girls’ softball team members are dedicated to what they do! They practice in the baseball field during softball season, which begins in late January or early February. They get their softballing spirit on and make sure they’re the very best that they can possibly be. Their softball coach, Mr. Kishman, makes sure of this.

There are many aspects to being a softball player; any sports player in general! Softball players need certain things like mental skills. Mental skills such as being able to work with others, taking leadership in times that are appropriate and being able to convey qualities of hard work, determination, and sportsmanship.

They also need other values like responsibility and accountability. What if a player misses some key things during practice? Another player should take action and get that information passed down. They should be responsible for everything. Their actions, their positions, even their space. If one thing is out of order, it may cause something that wouldn’t end up being too pretty. They need to be accountable and responsible for not only others, but their selves.

Softball is a sport that requires ten players dispersed into positions of outfields; first through third base, shortstop, pitcher, and catcher. It has similar fundamental basics to the game of baseball, primarily the goal being to outscore

the opponent with the use of scoring runs. Scoring runs in softball means a player advances through the four bases (first, second, third and home), following the ball, which is slightly larger than a baseball, being hit with a bat.

NMB’s softball team pretty much hopes to have fun throughout their gaming years. Even if they fall or don’t score as much runs, they know they’ll just get back up and keep fighting on because quitting is not an option. The past team history has many losses but like said before; quitting isn’t an option. Daniella Camero (softball player #14) knows all about having fun and not giving up!

It seems like a pretty easy concept to grasp but you really have to be on top of your game with this sport. Those runs can take the players a long way! Being a softball player requires a lot of dedication, determination and devotion. If you’re trying to find those three D’s, you already know NMB’s softball team is where that’s all found!

This year, the girls’ swim team has had a very successful season, winning six out of the seven meets. This team and their incredible coach, Ms. Jackie Walker, has worked incredibly hard for their success and that hard work has definitely payed off.

The team captain, Judith Maravi states that she is proud to be this team’s captain and that they have done a spectacular job this season. The team consists of nine girls, of which four made it to major events, like GMAC’s. The four who made it to these events were Judith Maravi, Marisol Fernandez, Deborah Grant, and Melanie Mejia.

The team’s first meet of the 2014-2015 season was against South Miami Senior High on September 2, 2014, in which the team completed successfully. The girls practiced every day of the season at Victory Park pool and now that the season is over, they are preparing for water polo season to start in January. The swimming season ranges from mid-August until the end of October. To be a part of this team, students must be determined to succeed and must come to practices; every sport should be like this. This team is built on friendship and trust, as each member has great motivation and faith towards their teammates.

Coach Walker could not be more proud of her girls. Many wonder, what makes this team so great at what they do? These girls motivate each other to do their best. The girls’ swim team is the best team any girl could join, as this team makes you feel instantly welcomed. Each and every member of this team bonds as a family and everyone is welcomed to join.

Soccer is the most famous and loved sport in every corner of the world, except a couple of places like the United States of America. This is a new year at NMB and because of that, we don’t technically have an official soccer team yet. However, soccer season is coming up. The first day of practice for soccer was on Monday, October 13, 2014 and we have two coaches for the boys’ soccer team this year. The first coach is Mr.Gédéon and the second coach has not been chosen yet. For now there is only one coach. Practice will take place behind the school in the park near Wal-Mart. As with every sport before joining, you need to do your physical and insurance. Practice will be Monday-Friday and sometimes Saturday from 3-5 pm. The boys also have study hall before practice, which is from 2:20 to 3:00 pm.

The first game of the boys soccer team will be against Hollywood Hills and the game will be an away game. The first game will be on November 5 so there isn’t much time left. The first home game will be against Pine Charter and will take place on November 6. The first and second games are only a day apart, which doesn’t give the players much of a chance to rest. Since there is no official soccer team yet, we don’t know what we are in for.

The coach, Mr.Gédéon, is hardworking and has given us assurance that he will try his best. Mr.Gédéon is an upper level math teacher. In other words, he teaches the higher math classes, which include Algebra 2, Pre-calculus, and

calculus. Mr.Gédéon coaches both the boys soccer team and the swimming team. For now we can only be patient and hope we get a great team.

North Miami Beach Senior high school has been rivals with North Miami senior High school for as long as I can remember. We compete at everything, especially in sports. This year North Miami Beach Senior high school is not off to a great start with us losing in football. The first soccer game against North Miami senior high school is on November 8. NMB needs an edge and maybe soccer might be that edge. Nothing is clear right now but we can hope for a great soccer team and hope for many victories.

Will the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 be the next big thing? Even bigger then the iPhone 6 and 6 plus? There are a lot of rumors about the Galaxy Note 4. The all- new phone has now officially been revealed. Drones: From The Battlefield To The Farmer’s Field.By Myrtle Valpoort

Although most of the attention regarding drones has focused recently on online shops and shipping services, much of the future for drones has to do with farms. According to The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, about 80% of the commercial market for drones will eventually be for agricultural uses. The way we see agriculture will forever change. Farms and greenhouses across the country will use drones to further help agriculturalist understand, simplify, and keep an eye on the way crops are grown and other plant and animal life.

The main reason Drones are coming around fast, has to do with outdated equipment. Farmers use satellites, manned planes and man power to monitor their crops. These ways cause many troubles and are very time consuming. Once data is collected it takes a long time to process and analyze. This can be a problem when something like an outbreak occurs, it becomes difficult or near impossible for the farmer to control. Drones on the other hand cut back on all these issues. Drones are also used for precision agriculture with pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, just to name a few. This saves farmers money that was once used because of overused resources, and it also minimizes the amount of runoff that flows into nearby rivers and streams.

This new demand for drones will help our economy tremendously. The drone industry said it expects more than 100,000 new jobs to be created and nearly half a billion dollars in tax revenue to be generated by 2025. Drones are very pricy though. They range from $2,000

for a basic style and up to $160,000 for a military style device. Many drones are equipped with infrared cameras, sensors, and other technology. Drones are controlled by a pilot on the ground and can be very dangerous.

If anyone were to loose control of a drone or use it without care, there would be many consequences. Contrary to popular belief Drones are not toys and should always be used with caution.

Although as of now there is a struggle between federal regulators to define how drones can be used for agriculture and commercial purposes, farmers are beginning to learn how to use drones. There is no question that technology (specifically drones) is moving forward and fast, but drones will be a great help towards farmers of the future.

Ello seems like the next big thing. It seems like the next big thing because it’s a new social media network. Social Media takes up a majority of people’s day to day life. With smartphones and computers, going on a website or getting the app isn’t that hard to do. The most popular social media network is Facebook. With 750+ million users on a daily basis, it’s pretty large. Now, with Ello around the corner, will Facebook be that popular

anymore?

Ello is a social media network that is “simple, beautiful and ad-free.” With the help of Paul Budnitz , Berger and Föhr and Mode set, Ello is now for the public. It was originally a private social network, but the demand eventually rose so they made it for all the eyes to see.

On social media networks, everything you do is tracked. Your information is sold to advertisers and they use the data to send you surveys, products and anything to make money off of you. Ello decided that they wouldn’t do any of that. Allegedly, no selling of your personal data

will occur. They do collect some information, however you have the choice to “opt” out. Ello is Free. You don’t have to worry about paying for anything. You’re allowed

support them but it isn’t a necessity in order to stay on the network. To join Ello, you need someone that is already on Ello. It is invitation only. In this case, “To get something you have to know someone” is the literal case. You may also request an invitation.

The look is completely simple. The simplicity is very obvious and its quite easy for virtually anyone to maneuver. No complicated words or anything. If you don’t have an account on Ello, you can still share photos. After uploading a photo you can put their logo, a black smiley face with a white smile and no eyes. A page is there to just see photos that other’s have posted. You also have the option to share any of the photos and/or flag them.

Ello may or may not be a new era. The amount of times that Ello was searched on the internet had reached an all time high. After it started to go down and down. Will this new social media take over the leader of all social media networks, Facebook? You can only know if you check out their website.

The Quest - December, 2014 — Page 22

It’s that time of year again when Apple launches a new iPhone. The iPhone 6 was launched September 19, 2014 alongside the iPhone 6 Plus. These two new iPhones are classified as top-tier, highest level/quality. Now comes the question that many people have been asking since the summer, what is the big difference between the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus? Which of these new iPhone releases are better than the other?

How is the iPhone 6 Plus better? Well to start off the Plus has a much larger screen and body. Having a larg-er screen is beneficial because it helps with surfing the web. You can easily watch your favorite movies or play games comfortably with the large screen. Adding on to the screen, the color is more accurate. The extra size of the screen works well in portrait form but way better in the landscape form. An interesting effect of the size differ-ence is how fast the phones get hot. Since the iPhone 6 is smaller, it gets hotter than the Plus when you’re playing games.

Camera-wise ;there are some differences. The main dif-ference between the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is that the Plus comes with OIS (optical image stabilization). OIS helps you take much better pictures by taking away the blur that can be caused by the very small hand movements you make when you are taking pictures. Now, in well-lit areas you wont notice much of a difference between the

two phones but when those lights turn off the iPhone 6 plus is the winner. The photos come out sharper and the colors are more vibrant when it’s dull.

Another win for iPhone 6 plus! iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus both run on IOS 8. Even though the 6 plus has a much bigger screen you get the same amount of appli-cations that can be viewed on your home screen. The iPhone 6 Plus’ larger screen display means that you can get a little more shortcuts when you have it on the land-scape mode.

The iPhone 6 plus comes with a larger battery than the iPhone 6. If you use your phone normally you’ll be able to make the 6 plus last for about two full days. The iPhone 6 isn’t that bad but it is a phone that you would probably want to charge daily. You can get a days use out of it if you’d like.

The iPhone 6 Plus has an application that is called Apple Pay. This can be a great advantage. In a simple screen touch you can make transactions at stores. There is a TouchID fingerprint sensor that supports MasterCard, Visa and also American Express. In addition to the apps, the iPhone 6 Plus includes a barometer, QuickType keyboard iCloud Drive and a faster LTE download that speeds up to 150 MPS, this allows users to surf the net at a faster speed.
