Nelson Mandela was the first black president of South Africa (1994 to 1999). Nelson Mandela was born on 1918.

Nelson Mandela was special to the black peo-ple because he fought for black peoples rights.

The Europeans con-trolled the country and started putting laws that black people could not get mixed with white people but then it got worse and they couldn’t vote or go to places. There was a lot of protests but they were usually savagely crushed by the National Party gov-ernment. Nelson Mandela was arrested in 1962 and he was in jail for 27 years. M Ovember was a recent event in ZIS. You may remember that we had a special assembly on a previous Fri-

day when all the men showed off their mos in a fancy way. Lots of our men teachers and staff were partici-pating. We gave out awards to the best ones. Did your teacher have the best moustache? We should appreciate all the male teachers who grew moustaches, because in the end it all goes to a worthy cause. So a round of applause for all the men! Thank you. The money you brought in was sent to the char-

ity Movember bros because of men's health issues. We inter-viewed some of the male teachers:

First, we inter-viewed Mr. Sullivan.

Selina: Does your family like your mustache?

Mr. Sullivan: "My son likes it because he thinks it's cool but my wife hates it. Lilly: Will you keep your mustache, why or why not? Mr. Sullivan: "No I won't be keeping it be-cause it is very uncomfortable." Selina: Does your family like your mustache? Mr. Harrison: "They don't like it much." He answered

Lilly: "Will you keep your mus-tache? Why or why not?” Mr. Harrison: "I will be keeping it because it hurts to shave around your lip." Every single penny can help many people get healthier! Source for a picture:Http://www.keepcalm-o-matic.co.uk.

More Of MOvember

“My name is Silvia. I'm a wizard. I'm awesome. Those are the

most important things about me. Well technically there is

more but I'm getting to that part. And now I'm at that part. So

here I go. I'm not a typical wizard, well actually I guess I

might be. Sure I read big fat spell books and have a wand that

does little shiny sparkle thingies that give you mini shocks, but

that's not the point. I live in a normal house not a big castle, I

don't have some magical caldron to boil my potions in, I use a

microwave, I can't just wave my wand and get whatever I

want I actually have to study which is totally unfair! Anyway I

think you get the point…” Sita Pawar G5

Oliver Farewell!

In Scotland (Glasgow) an EC135 T2 aircraft

(Helicopter) crashed into a pub called the Clutha.

There were three people on board the helicopter:

the pilot and 2 police officers. It's thought that 100

people were in the pub at the time watching a band

performance.

9 people died in the crash and 11 people are still in

hospital. Accidents like this usually don't happen

and especially to helicopters. Helicopters fly safely

all around the world-so everybody got shocked

when it happened.

The helicopter was loaded onto a lorry to the Air

Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) base in

Hampshire. The deputy chief inspector (David Mil-

ler) said the pilot did not make a mayday call before

the crash. People are still inspecting the accident so

nobody knows what really happened yet.

T his week a giant snow-

storm has hit in the

United States including

Texas, Minnesota, Mon-

tana and South Dakota have no

electricity because of the sud-

den snowstorm. This has caused

many if the houses in these are-

as in lack of electricity. All

flights going from Dallas, Texas

had to be shut down and everyone

had to find a place to sleep

overnight. Adding to the chaos

many roads became impossible to

drive on because the roads were

covered in ice! This snowstorm

has many times been blamed for

eleven deaths caused by road

crashes. As many people have

feared this snowstorm has start-

ed making it's way to the center

of the country. Let's hope for

this storm to pass and pray for

all the American's in our pre-

sent and past community.

STORMS

Oliver a loyal, kind and a good friend. We all know him

or maybe not, it doesn't matter. Last Sunday he left for a

new life in Miami, Florida, U.S.A. He used to be a stu-

dent in grade 4, his class was MR. Butcher (4B). He is

ready to face the challenges of learning in Miami in a

whole different learning state. Oliver has to make new

friends at his new school, well I'm sure that would be

very hard for him to lose his friends, but he will make

friends in a blink because he's that type of guy. Anyway this article is about how much

we didn't want Oliver to go, but we know he's out there having fun even though we don't

see him we know in our hearts that he's as happy as a monkey in a palace of bananas.

Having a problem with bullies? Then Read this

article to help you!

S ome people think that their get there way

by bullying. Some people may have had

problems dealing with a bully. Bullies

are people that are not confident of

themselves so they may bully others.

If you're being bullied by someone don't overre-

act, stay calm and tell a teacher, your parents, or a

person you know you can trust. If you don't tell a

teacher bulling can get worse.

Be careful who you trust, bullying can get out

hand, like taking lunch money or paying to let

other people to get to the toilet, or even sticking

people in trash cans, it's still not allowed!

The trick is just to be yourself and stay strong this

is something to think about . There are plenty of

people to help. Tell someone — ask for help. You

do not need to put up with it.

One Direction's Midnight

Memories Is The Fast-

est Selling Album. One

Direction's new album

Midnight Memories is

the fastest UK selling

album in two years,

after fans buy 237,000

of Midnight Memories

in the first week. Mid-

night Memories is the

boy's third album, and it is at the very top of this

weeks U.K album charts. It has sold more in one

week than any artist since Michel Bubble's album

in 2011.

One Direction's first albums also had massive hit

like Up All Night in 2011 sold 130,000 in the

first week and Take Me Home in 2012 sold

155,000 in the first week, but this is truly the big-

gest album the boys have had yet.

Official Charts Company Chief executive Martin

Talbot said: "The success really does send a sig-

nal that the festive season is almost with us- and

means 1D are now real contenders to claim big-

gest album of the year." The boy band also have

3 songs in the top 40 led by Story Of My Life.

Winter Concert

On the fifth of December, we had a awesome grade 4 and 5 concert. The strings, the choir, and the

band were very, very good. Everyone liked the pieces that they played, or sang. This couldn't have happened without the help of Mr. Spurling, Ms. Henry, and Ms. Johnson. It was highly creative and really gave th everyone a chance to shine.

Also a big thanks to Clement who live streamed our whole concert for the first time giving many relations in the world a chance to share our chil-dren's efforts. Thank you Clement for being in-novative and sharing your ideas with our school.

We should also thank all the kids that preformed that night, all of them should be proud of them-selves for doing a outstanding job!

Winter Recipes Do you know how to make pancakes? If

you read this you will know!

Pancakes

Ingredients:

1 cup (200g) all purpose flour

1 tablespoon sugar

1 large egg

2 tablespoon melted butter

1 cup (200g) milk

Method:

1. Melt butter in the frying pan and al-

low to cool.

2. Whisk flour, and sugar to lose lumps.

3. Beat egg in different bowl and add

milk. Mix well.

4. Add egg mixture to flour and com-

bine. Batter should spread immediately

when dripped unto a smooth surface,

almost like crepe batter. If the batter

does not spread, add more milk.

5. Heat stove with frying pan on it. Pour

some batter into the frying pan. Flip

when upper side is no longer runny and

has small holes. Repeat with remaining

batter.

6. If you want add maple syrup or sugar

for more flavor!

S’now Good!

S now has arrived. Yes, the winter holi-

days are here! You'd better get ready

with your decorations because holi-

days are nearly here!

Some of you may celebrate Christmas, have

you got your Christmas Tree up?

The school is all snowy and you better start

bringing your snow boots in. Next term there's

gonna be more snow too. Comments and con-

nections?

Bbbbrrrr ....the winter is here and the SNOW is

here too! Some people think snow is horrible

but actually snow is really fun! In the summer

you can't make a snowman, you can't ski/

snowboard, you can't go sledding, and you can't

go cross country skiing.

Those are just a few things that you can do in

the winter. Now, in the summer you can do a

lot too, BUT snow is only here for about 3 or 4

months so it's kind of special!

Snow is all over the place you can make huge

things out of snow. Switzerland is a county that

has a lot of snow during the winter.

What big stuff can you make out of snow? Do

you want to be the best snowperson builder in

the ZIS Lower School? Then this is your

chance. All you need to do is send a email to

two people in the news team.

emails:[email protected] & [email protected] .

Your snowperson can be in the newspaper and

will officially be the best of the lower school.

Good luck!

Have you ever thought how many

animals there are in the world?

Well there are 8.7 million animals

that we know of. In this section

each issue we will introduce an an-

imal you may not have yet heard

of.

Axolotl: The axolotl is an amphibi-

an and is also known as the Mexi-

can walking fish. It is a salaman-

der. It can come in white, black and

blue. It eats worms, small fish and

other salamanders so it is a car-

nivour. An awesome fact about

them is that they can re-grow: their

limbs, heart and brain.

They can grow up to 30cm and in

the wild they can live between 10-

15 years. Another fact about the

axolotl is that it never becomes an

adult.

S ometimes we all forget what it's like to be new

and it's especially hard to join ZIS in the middle

of the year. In Grade 5, Mr. Allen's class, we

have a new student. Holly arrived on November 4th:-

Do you like it in Switzerland, and ZIS? Why?

I do like it in Switzerland and I love it here at zis. I like it

in Switzerland because of the communities and the

thought of skiing.

Where did you move from? I have just moved from Suf-

folk in England.

Who are your new friends? I like it at ZIS because there

are friends everywhere. I am friends with all of the girls

in my class and I am hoping to make new friends.

Tigers close to

extinction! Did you know that these days tigers have

grown to be very close to extinction?

There are for example only 100 Siberian ti-

gers left ( or sometimes called Black tiger)

Some people think that the tigers are safe by

being put in zoo. That is wrong.

Above Image:

Tiger Cub . Photography. Encyclopædia Bri-

tannica Image Quest. Web. 3 Dec 2013

They may be safe from danger but they can

not go free. Even if they have a big cage it is

still not the same thing for a tiger to be free.

Look at the dog for example they use to be

wild but are now as friendly as cats. If we

don't do something soon they will soon be as

calm as cats. So... Save the tigers
