NIDA Open NIDA Open delivers industry-leading programs across Australia in the form of short courses, studios and residencies for adults, young people and children, as well as skills development opportunities for business professionals.

Location Unless otherwise specified all courses are held at NIDA’s award-winning facilities at 215 Anzac Parade, Kensington, just 15 minutes from the Sydney CBD. Develop and extend your skills within a highly motivated group as you work with industry practitioners in an intensive residency course. Collaborate with your NIDA friends to create new adventures, stories and scenes to share with an audience. Act in high-stakes situations as you explore pivotal scenes and sequences. Develop skills in dramatic improvisation, green screen technology and stage combat.

All Things ScreenExplore differing aspects of on-screen performance with this exciting five day screen taster course. Screen Writing 101Develop your writing skills to tell stories for the screen. Learn about genre, scene construction, character and dialogue within screen context and construct scenes that will come alive when performed.




Reel WarriorInvestigate the complexities of being a heroine or hero in popular culture scenarios. Deconstruct film and fiction such as Twilight, Divergent and The Giver. Planet Wars: Battle for the RepublicCreate your own intergalactic character and join forces with a legion of other space travellers. Battle against the dark forces in the universe to save your home planet. Build scenes based on your heroic travels and adventures. Learn contemporary design techniques and amazing ways of creating costume using recycled clothing and non-traditional fabrics. Present your costumed character to family and friends at the end of the course.




Auditions and Screen TestsBecome confident in how to present yourself to a director by practising auditions for theatre, film and TV.




Costume Design 101Develop original character designs for stage or screen with practical exercises to build skills and inspire.





Music Theatre Boot CampWork with a NIDA music theatre expert to create a short song and story presentation for stage. This is a great way to introduce yourself to the magic of music theatre and find out just what it takes to become a music theatre star!
