CAR TRIVIA CORNER
The motor car has the unique distinction of
currently being the most recycled product in the
world. Up to 95 percent of retired automobiles
are recycled every year, and thanks to modern
technology, everything from floor mats, Istru-
ment panels to steel and aluminum can be used
again in new cars and other products.
The dashboard was originally a piece of wood
attached to the front of a horse-drawn carriage
that prevented mud from splattering on the
carriage driver.

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Bob Mashburn President, Mile-High Section
BEHIND THE WHEEL
I would like to inform you of some changes in the
Board. Reiner Haubold has stepped down as
Secretary of the Mile-High Section due to a move
Loveland Colorado. He has served as the
Mercedes-Benz Mile-High Section Secretary from
1991 through 2014 (for 24 years.) Reiner has
been a major fixture in our club and will be
greatly missed as a board member for his
leadership. However, he and his wife Carol will
remain very active with the club. Thank you
Reiner for all you have done for the club and for
me. Stepping into the Secretary position
temporarily will be Niels Hauhold.
This month we have some great things planned:
On February 11th Children’s Miracle Network at
Children’s Hospital; on the 14th Valentine’ s
Dinner at Mount Vernon Country Club; and on
the 28th tour with lunch after of the Atmospheric
& Space Physics Lab at CU Bolder.
I hope to see you at one of our events.

LASP combines all aspects of space exploration through our expertise in science, engineering, mission operations, and scientific data analysis. As part of CU, LASP also works to educate and train the next generation of space scientists, engineers and mission operators by integrating undergraduate and graduate students into working teams. BACKSTAGE TOUR REPORT AT THE DENVER CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS COMPLEX (DCPA)
On January 24, 2015, 21 members enjoyed at backstage tour of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA). After meeting for coffee at the Backstage Coffee shop, we were greeted by our tour ambassador, Myra Keeble, who started our tour at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, where we were told the history of the complex. After admiring the mural and the life-like ballet dancer’s statue, we were lead onstage to admire the lights, the ropes, the seating, and then group sang happy birthday to Dave Carpenter and Natalie Mashburn. We saw the green room (which was not green) and dressing rooms and then continued through a side door to the Buell Theater. In the hallway at the Buell, we saw posters of every performance; all signed by the performers of the touring Broadway shows. After the Buell, we walked across the complex to the Stage Theater, where we saw the different types of stages used by the local Denver performers. Our final stop was the Prop Department where we saw miniature stages, wigs, make-up, and costumes. After the tour we walked down to the 16
th Street Mall and had lunch at the Cheesecake
Factory. It was a fun day and several members expressed interest in attending future events at DCPA.
