Newsletter 6 - 2018 Thursday 8th March This week we congratulate our very important Junior School Council Team who provide a forum for student ideas, practice good citizenship, plan special events or projects and work as a team to improve school morale and support well-being. These students represent Year Levels 2 to 6 and will be led by our School Captains Alisa and Savanna with the assistance of two teachers from the Senior Learning Community Margaret and Sev. We look forward to hearing about their great ideas and seeing them put their plans into action across 2018. They learnt that the local government has an important role in the community. If we did not have them, we would have no bus stops, none of our garbage would be collected and we would have no local libraries. They may not seem like much but they are actually very important to have in our lives. Newsletter 6 - 2018 Thursday 8th March

This week we congratulate our very important Junior School Council Team who provide a forum for

student ideas, practice good citizenship, plan special events or projects and work as a team to improve

school morale and support well-being. These students represent Year Levels 2 to 6 and will be led by

our School Captains Alisa and Savanna with the assistance of two teachers from the Senior Learning Community Margaret and Sev.

We look forward to hearing about their great ideas and

seeing them put their plans into action across 2018.

Our Team (see photo):

LtoR : Ayaan Jaffry (Year 5), Emma Lester (Year 4),

Fatima Chattha (Year 3), Mariam Ba Faqih (Year 2,

Aaryav Shakya (Year 2), Eden Praljak (Year 6)

Yesterday the 5/6 students had a visit from the Mayor of

Moreland, John Kavanagh and the Deputy Mayor, Natalie

Abboud. They learnt that the local government has an

important role in the community. If we did not have them,

we would have no bus stops, none of our garbage would be

collected and we would have no local libraries. They may not

seem like much but they are actually very important to have

in our lives.

This week we had some visitors from the

Essendon Football club to work with our senior

students and our Glenroy Central Football

Team.

Here’s a photo of our 2018 Football Captains Adham Taleb and Hussien El Achkar along with players Jordan Houlahan, Matt Guelfi, Cale Hooker, Darcy Parish and Andrew McGrath.

Harmony Day is celebrated on 21st

March every year. For Australia, it is a day to

celebrate our culturally diverse society. The

day is organised by the Australian

Government Department of Immigration and

Border Protection.

Although Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Islander people have lived in Australia for

thousands and thousands of years, most of

Australia’s population is made up of people

whose families only arrived in the country

within the last 200 years.

This means that everyone has different and varied backgrounds: Italian, Greek, English, Lebanese, Irish, Turkish,

Canadian etc.

All the different cultures that come together in Australia bring many things with them: different foods, ways of

dressing, languages, customs and beliefs.

Harmony Day is about celebrating these differences and learning about new cultures.

At Glenroy Central Primary School, we are going to celebrate this day with a parade of costumes and a special

multicultural lunch. The Junior School Council will be promoting this event in the coming month so watch out for

coming details!

WINTER UNIFORMS: If you have girl’s winter pants or a pinafore that your child has outgrown

and you would like to sell them through the second-hand uniform shop please bring them to the office as we have families interested in buying these items. All uniforms must clean and in good condition.

The students in the Senior Learning Community have been learning

about the importance of having a Growth Mindset. As part of their

investigation, they entered a ‘Growth Mindset Display Board Challenge’

against 700 other teams from around the world. Here’s the great board

they have put together.

KINDER NEWS

The kinder children have been looking at shapes and their characteristic. We

have been working on our cutting skills and name recognition. This week we

also used the school gym for the first time this year. The children had an amazing

time and all commented on how big the space was.

This week we were also fortunate enough to have our apple tree blossom for

the first time. We had the opportunity to taste several different variety of apples

while playing outdoors.
