Opportunities in Iran
There are lots of business opportunities in Iran, a countryof 78 million people the second largest population in the
Middle East, after Egypt. It has a highly educated popula-tion with a lot of pent up demands. Its US $ 400 billion
economy, crippled by sanctions, is poised to surge. Goodopportunity for enhancing trade in textiles exist betweenIran and India. But exporters & importers of both the coun-tries were reluctant in dealing with each other due to thesanctions on Iran.
However, Iranian businessmen, industrialists and traderswere looking forward to healthier trade relations with theircounterparts in India, as sanctions on Iran would soon belifted. Sanctions on Iran and suspension of L/C has terri-bly affected trade between the two countries, but the situ-ation is likely to improve in the next two or three monthsafter lifting of sanctions.

Viet Nam's textile in-
dustry to rely on Indian
cotton
India had great opportunities to pro-vide raw materials for Viet Nam's tex-tile industry, said Doan Duy Khuong, vice chairman of the Viet Nam Cham-ber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI),at the Viet Nam - India textile coop-eration conference in Ha Noi.
The domestic garment and textilesector had to import a large quantityof cotton as the country's cotton out-put met only 1 per cent of local pro-ducers' demand, said the chairman.
Viet Nam needs more than 500,000tonnes of cotton per year to meet ris-ing demand.
Meanwhile, India had sufficient sup-ply of material for the Vietnamese tex-tile industry, he said.
India is the world's second largestmanufacturer of cotton, silk, cotton
cellulose, and fibers with approxi-mately US$100 billion in revenue ayear, of which $40 billion was fromexports.
Bilateral cooperation in textile andgarment sectors has drawn the atten-tion of leaders and business commu-nities of Vietnam and India.
On the occasion of the visit to Indiaby Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dungin October 2014, the Indian Govern-
ment offered a $300 million line ofcredit to Viet Nam as an impetus toaccelerate textile trade and investmentbetween the two countries, saidDoThang Hai, Deputy Minister of In-dustry and Trade.
Through the conference, the Indianside had fruitful discussions about theoperation of the credit line with Viet-namese agencies and enterprises inthe future, said Vishvajit Sahay, joint
secretary of the Department of HeavyIndustry under Indian Ministry of
Heavy Industries and Public Enter-prises.
The Viet Nam textile industry hadgrown significantly in the past recentyears and will continue developing inthe future, said Khuong, VCCI deputychairman.
Vietnam's garment industry, whoseexports are growing at 20 per cent per
year with a turnover forecast at $40billion in 2020, accounts for 20 percent of the country's gross domesticproduct (GDP).
With the successful negotiation con-clusion of the Trans-Pacific Partner-ship (TPP) recently, foreign enter-prises have invested in Vietnamesetextile industry with projects worthhundreds of millions dollars.
The bilateral trade ties between VietNam and India have witnessed sig-
nificant growth with total trade turn-over of $5.59 billion in 2014, increas-ing by 9.84 per cent compared to2013.
Viet Nam has exported $2.5 billion ofproducts to India and imported goodsvalued at $3.13 billion from India.
Total trade between the two countriesreached more than $3 billion through
the first seven months of this year.
Major export items of Viet Nam to In-dia include computers, electronics, components, mobile phones andparts, automobile spare parts, rubber, chemicals, coffee, pepper, fiber of allkinds and wood.
Meanwhile, the main import items ofViet Nam from India are seafood, machinery and components, pharma-
ceutical products, cotton, corn, steel, livestock and petrol. (Courtesy : VNS)
During the recent years, the export-garment industry has
been thriving thanks to broad market. Many garment-
businesses have invested to expand factories and inno-
vate equipment, production technology, meeting the
needs of foreign customers. In the first 9 months of 2015,
garment enterprises reached an output of over 7 million
products, up 18.7% over the same period in 2014.
