BILFINGER SCAFFOLD PORTAL ––––––

ACCELERATE YOUR DIGITAL JOURNEY

BILFINGER SALAMIS UK

Bilfinger Salamis UK is pleased to announce the introduction of of its new digital management platform, the Bilfinger Scaffold Portal.

Designed and built for the offshore energy market

The Scaffold Portal has been developed by Bilfinger Salamis UK as a bespoke digital solution, tailored for the oil and gas market using feedback from our clients.

Having identified a requirement for an application which provides a simple and effective method of managing scaffold inventory on-site, that can be monitored remotely, and remain compliant with local regulatory requirements, Bilfinger realised that no off-the-shelf solution could provide a full solution for use in the energy market, with many existing packages designed for onshore “street“ scaffolding.

In order to provide our clients with a fully digital platform, which can be used as a mobile system on EX-rated devices, and as a desktop system, Bilfinger‘s technical authorities, scaffold design team, engineers, and in-house digitalisation team designed and built a tailored solution in-house.

Bilfinger Scaffold Digital Management Platform

• Bespoke scaffold management platform developed for the energy market• Developed in-line with current regulations and industry best practice• Fully functional online/offline - suitable for EX-rated devices or desktop• Real-time visibility of scaffold utilisation metrics and data for all stakeholders • Consistent weight and man-hour estimating• Improved procedure compliance • Improved compliance with scaffold design requirement guidelines • Faster audit execution

Existing Challenges

Scaffold management on site, offshore and onshore, is predominantly completed using paper techniques, with registers subject to human error or wilful neglect. Stock management onsite can lead to site tonnage anomalies.

Scaffold registers and associated inspection paperwork are then held for three years to meet current regulatory requirements.

Bilfinger‘s Scaffold Portal digitises this process, introducing significant process improvements, giving full transparency of activities onsite, and providing supervisory personnel digital twin access to all associated documents.

Real-Time Data - Enhanced Capability

The Bilfinger Scaffold Portal can be accessed on a desktop or mobile device, and holds all information, both live and cached, automatically updating when in wifi or 4G connected areas. With all scaffold information held centrally, the platform provides all stakeholders with a complete real-time overview of scaffold activities and associated metrics:

• Long term scaffolding tonnage• Scaffolding dimensions and tonnage• Scaffolds dismantles due• Time and date stamp scaffolding inspections • Defects• Scaffold Requests• Ladder register and inspection• Scaffold disposal• Site Stock module - up to 50 holding locations for stock and 300 different components per location, allowing easy transfer of stock in/out

Personnel using EX-rated devices can also take pictures of scaffolds and save these to the tag ID. Reports are created using Microsoft Power BI, providing clear, live analytical dashboards.

We are hoping to be fully operational with our first client in May, with additional functionality due to be introduced in Q3.

Client Trials

Bilfinger deployed the first ever trial of the Scaffolding Portal on a key client‘s asset in March.

Supported offshore by Focal Point Sandy Hazelton, feedback from the three-week trial has been extremely positive. Both Sandy and the client‘s STL have agreed that the application will be an excellent addition in recording and managing scaffolding inspections going forward.

Following the trial, some updates have been made to the user interface to ensure the platform is as user friendly as possible. A follow up, two-week trial is planned on an additional asset this month. Bilfinger Scaffolding Supervisor Stephen Creen has completed familiarisation training while working from home during the Covid-19 lock down, before mobilising to the client‘s asset.
