Natter Term 1 Week 3 2017 Dear Parents, After visiting some classes last week, it was wonderful to see the students making the most of their learning time and enjoying getting to know their new teachers and class peers. Congratulations to our Kindergarten cohort who were so settled and ready to learn during my classroom visits. Thank you also to our Year 6 students who were very mature and helpful in their leadership roles on Thursday as they too, welcomed our newest students. Thank you to … Our staff leading PSSA sport and dance groups across the school, for the very difficult task of conducting trials and auditions to select teams and groups. Thank you also to Deborah Deratz and Helen Braund for the organization and distribution of textbooks. If you have not yet ordered your child’s textbooks, please log in to Dominie or visit our website for details http://www.newport-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/notes as soon as possible. Parent Information Evening This year, we will trial a new format for our Parent Information Evenings; Years 1 & 2 – Monday 20 February Kindergarten – Tuesday 21 February Year 3 & 4 – Wednesday 22 February Years 5 & 6 – Thursday 23 February The information sessions will go from 6-6.45pm and be held in your child’s classroom. The evening is intended to provide an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher and be informed about the year ahead, the class organisation, the class program and expectations for the year. I strongly request that children do not accompany parents to school, as being unsupervised in the playground poses a safety risk and is unsettling for the teachers conducting presentations.

2017 Health Care Plans If your child suffers from any medical condition or allergy, it is extremely important that all documentation including current (2017) health plans from your doctor, are lodged with the school office. I also ask that parents ensure that any appropriate medications are current. This will enable us to look after the best interests of your child.

P & C Meeting Our P&C Association is run by a very dedicated group of parents who are committed to supporting our school in everything that we do. This association has a number of roles. They provide a forum for parents to find out more about our school and support us in our endeavours. Every year the P&C raises funds to support a number of school programs. The first P & C meeting will be on Tuesday 14th February at 7pm in the Library. We look forward to seeing you there.

Welcome Back BBQ The Welcome Back BBQ is on Friday 17th February. It is a great opportunity for the community to come together, welcome our new families to the school and catch up with some old friends. This is also a Year 6 fundraising event and we sincerely hope that you will be able to join us. Warmest regards, Natalie Baldi Principal

Newport Junior Rugby Club. Founded 54 years ago, NJRC is a family and community orientated rugby union club that prides itself on providing a safe and fun environment for boys and girls to learn and develop rugby skills with their mates. Rugby Union is a game that develops leadership, team spirit, courage, sportsmanship and friendship. These values and traditions develop from the first time a young player shakes hands with their opposite number, leading to a lifelong passion for and involvement with the game at all levels. It’s an inclusive game that transcends size, shape, ability, gender or ethnicity. Based at Porter Reserve in Newport, NJRC is one of the largest junior rugby clubs in Sydney, with 500 registered Minis and Junior rugby union players aged between 5 and 18 years old, nearly of whom live in our local area. Registration days for NJRC in 2017 at the Porter Reserve clubhouse are: Saturday 11th February and 18th February from 9:00am to 2 pm Friday 17th February from 5:00pm to 7:30pm
